Yes, because it gives the audience a reason to watch it by using the quotes from reviews. Even though the style and colours of the poster don’t relate to the film they do make the poster stand out and jump at you, grabbing your attention. It will also appeal to fans of Jane Austen because it hints that it is based on one of her books.

Is this a successful poster?

No, the poster doesn’t relate to the film very well because it is film noir. This poster is also too busy and intricate so I don’t think it would transfer to a DV case very well. However, even though it doesn’t have a tagline or contain much information, the images in the poster creates a segmented story and this will make the viewer want to see the full film so they are able to fill in the gaps.

Is this a successful poster?

No, because the bottom image is so small, it wouldn’t be clear as to what is was on a DVD case. But this poster is very good at presenting the viewer with the themes of the film without revealing the events in the film. It doesn’t the actors or the director as a marketing technique though which could letter down promotion.
