Next training: Sunday 2 @ 9:30am for pre-summer safety updates. Members: this MUST be done before the end of October if you wish to respond during the fire danger period. Contact Neil to arrange a time if you can’t make training days. We are busy preparing for summer - I hope you are, too. Recent heavy rains will see a massive grass growth very soon; please play your part in comm-unity safety and control the growth on your property as best you can. We have had a busy month with several callouts ranging from false
alarms calls to a house/shed fire in Balliang. Keep yourself updated on what is happening, checkout the www.cfa.vic.gov.au website, fire ready app on both iPhone and Android and make sure to check our Facebook page, as well. Any members of the community interested in joining our brigade please feel free to come down any Sunday morning at 8:30am to have a chat or join us at our training morning

1st Anakie Scout Group: term 3 ended with a munch and a sip and a fun time bowling. We even had friends there! Gustav ended up the winner, but all the cubs and scouts had a fun time. At least we were out of the rain and after a looong night, the rain stopped! Term 4 will have a theme of The Jungle Book, so look out for dress up fun and an end of year barbecue at the hall. All will be welcome. There will be a night hike with no lights at all - yes Nick only moonlight. We’ll be cooking up a storm, going to the regatta in November where cubs will be able to finally get their level one canoe badge, yes Alisha you’ve already got yours, going for a bike hike and sleepover at Drysdale and ending up with a visit to the Peace Memorial in Geelong. Whew! Red Wolf & Sahi

Hi, all. I recently found this delicious, easy-to-make recipe ... Apple Slice
8 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and cut into slices 2 cups water 1 cup sugar Put all ingredients into a large pot. Stew ’til softened, drain & cool. Pastry: 1 cup plain flour 1 cup SR flour 1egg (beaten) 125 grams softened butter ½ cup castor sugar 2-3 tablespoons chilled water Preheat oven to 170º. Sift flours together, add sugar, rub in butter, then add egg and water. Mix to a firm dough. Knead until smooth. Wrap in glad wrap,
chill 15-20 minutes. Grease a deep baking dish. Divide dough in two. Roll half to fit in dish (if it breaks, just patch it up and press it in evenly). Spread apple evenly over pastry. Roll other ½ of dough and lay on top of apples. Score top of pastry to make cutting easier, sprinkle with sugar. Bake 30-35 minutes, leave in dish to cool, cut and store in fridge. Carolyn Macdonald
