Gods Love We Deliver is an amazing example of compassionand caring that is filling an urgent need. This worthwhilecharity feels that food is medicine and follows through with a30-year-old mission of cooking and delivering over 1.2 millionindividually-tailored meals every year to those in the New YorkCity metropolitan area who are too sick with life-alteringdiseases to shop or cook for themselves. All services areprovided free of charge without regard to income.

It takes a large and diverse group of staff, clients, volunteers,donors, and other supporters to accomplish the end result ofplanning, purchasing, preparing with loving care, anddelivering the nutritious food to those men, women andchildren who should never have to suffer serious illness andhunger. Also provided is counseling and nutrition educationto the clients, their families, and care providers as well as otherservice organizations.

Who Does AllThis and How?

Every weekday morning, a team of cooks, chefs, porters and dozensof volunteers start to cook soups and sauces in 80-gallon steamkettles and meats, vegetables and starches in 20 ovens. By 8:00a.m., 1,400 soups and 1,000 dinner entrees together with desserts,rolls or bagels have been lidded and labeled. Three additional shiftsduring the rest of the day find volunteers chopping hundreds ofpounds of vegetables needed daily while the chefs and cooks planmenus and order and store thousands of pounds of food that isneeded for the coming week. They then prepare, cook and portionout soup bases, sauces, meats and sides. Entrees are also cooked,packaged and frozen for non-delivery days.

In addition to the 1,500 daily desserts that are baked, cut andpackaged, Chuck, the pastry chef, aided by volunteers, alsobakes and personalizes more than 2,000 birthday cakes ayear for every client, child and senior caregiver to help themcelebrate their special day.
