Rumor Has It • Vol. 5, Issue 4 • April 2017
April 26th is our first ALL STAFF MEETING for 2017.
We will begin with some morning goodies for all (think coffee and pastries) in the break room.
At 10 o’clock our first guest is from Casa Cornelia Law Center. CCLC is a public interest law firm providing pro bono legal services to vic ms of human and civil rights viola ons. The Center has a primary commitment to the indigent immigrant community in Southern California. The speaker will discuss immigra on issues, primarily focusing on asylum cases and those involving human trafficking.
Just before or during lunch (which will be provided), UX staff will lead a short presenta on on the Immigra on Court and what it does—to warm us up for the a ernoon field trip.
Our big event of the day will be a visit to the Immigra on Court. With the courts needing assistance to help the growing numbers needing informa on on immigra on law, we hope to learn what we can do to help. We will have an overview presenta on on the immigra on court given by the law clerks, a end master calendar hearings, and then have a Q&A with one of the judges.
Keith Ann S verson, former AALL President, sent a lovely note thanking John and the Law Library staff for making her recent visit so special. Great job team!

TODAY'S NEWS 3.20.2017
On Firmer Ground / 3.16.2017 / *Author Is AALL Member* Introduction: It was great to see the library getting recognition in an article by Bloomberg Law'sScott Mozarsky, "Large Law's Not-So-Secret Weapon In Marketing And BD: The Library." In the piece, Scott says, "Law firm libraries have always been major assets for partners and associates in providing strong practice of law results to their clients. However, the library was not often perceived to be a key component in a firm's marketing or business development machinery."
This particular line struck me as timely since On Firmer Ground recently recapped two webinars where private law firm librarians/information professionals were discussing competitive intelligence efforts at their firms.
San Diego Law Library / 3.15.2017 / *Author Is AALL Member* Introduction: The Law Library recently created an electronic guide to resources available for victims of domestic violence or civil harassment. The guide includes information about local community agencies for victims, links to court information, and a list of key books which are available at our Downtown and Vista locations.

About the Program:With changes in medical standards of care regarding pain management, there has been a significant increase in the amount of opiate prescriptions and, consequently, a remarkable increase in opiate-related overdoses and death. Families of celebrities and lay-people, alike, are beginning to hold doctors legally accountable for the opiate-related deaths of their loved ones.
What does this mean for lawyers, and how can lawyers optimize the medical records pertaining to these cases?
Speakers:Tara Bohannon, RN, MSN, CNS, CWON, CLNC, attended San Francisco State University where she obtained her Masters in Nursing, with a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Women’s health, and a certification in Would and Ostomy from Emory University. In over 15 years of nursing experience, Tara has worked in multiple areas spanning from the medical-surgical floor to women’s health, and neonatal care to academic instruction. She is currently the system wide Advanced Practice Nurse for Wound and Ostomy care for a large medical center.
Barbara Durham, Partner of Durham-Newton Legal Nurse Consulting, is coming up on a decade of nursing experience. Her areas of personal expertise include perinatal services/neonatal intensive care, pediatrics, and pediatric intensive care.

Patron Incident Reports
Branch: Brief Description of Incident: Downtown Patron refused to leave the library when asked. Library staff make several
announcements warning patrons that closing time is approaching (1 hour, 30 minutes, and 10 minutes before) and a final one that the Library is closed and that patrons must exit. Patron refused to organize their material when asked. Patron was repeatedly argumentative about various things that she felt she deserved and that the Library should provide for free. Patron finally left at 6:13 after Library staff assisted her by carrying some of her papers. Patron Incident 292
