The Study Program The Master in Cultural Heritage Management is a
multidisciplinary postgraduate program designed for
students and professionals who are interested in
heritage conservation, site management, museum
studies, tourism, creative industries, architectural
heritage, historical towns, and cultural landscapes.
Students who successfully complete the whole study
program are eligible for two degrees:
A Master degree, in accordance with the LMD
system-Bologna Process (European Union Stan-
dards), awarded by the University of Paris 1, Pan-
théon-Sorbonne entitled “Gestion des Sites du
Patrimoine Culturel et Naturel et Valorisation
Touristique” (GSVT)
A professional diploma in “Cultural Heritage
Management” from the Université Française
d’Egypte
Courses The program is organized in three semesters (12 weeks each), covering a
complete academic year. The summer semester is devoted to internship (3
months), thesis research and writing. Each semester totals 216 hours (30 cred-
its) with a total of 60 ECTS credits for course work, 10 ECTS credits for a
three months internship, and 20 ECTS credits for a thesis.
Courses, taught in English, consist of a consecutive series of 1-2 week mod-
ules. They consist of lectures, seminars, field visits, case studies and personal
work, and are offered 4-8:15 pm. They consist of core courses followed by
specialized options in Heritage & Cultural Tourism, Architectural and Urban
Heritage, and Museum Studies depending on availability. The core courses
include:

The Team The program is co-directed by Prof. Fekri Hassan, Université Française d’Egypte,
emeritus Petrie Professor of Archaeology, University College London, and Prof. Maria
Gravari-Barbas, Director of the Institut de Recherche et d’Etudes Supérieures du Tour-
isme (IREST), UNESCO Chair in Cultural Tourism, University of Paris 1 Panthéon-
Sorbonne.Courses are taught by an outstanding team of Egyptian and French academ-
ics and professionals with wide international experience in cultural heritage manage-
ment, tourism and development.

ADMISSION Candidates from different academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply for this multidiscipli-
nary program. They should submit by email a CV, a cover letter and a scanned copy of their
degrees. And credentials
Candidates are expected to meet the following requirements:
Holding a Bachelor degree (either a B.A. or a B.Sc.)
Adequate level of proficiency in English
Adequate level of IT equivalent to ICDL
Pre-selected candidates will be interviewed by a committee from the Université

The Master in Cultural Heritage Management is offered jointly by the Uni-
versité Française d’Egypte and the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
Launched in 2012, this postgraduate program qualifies graduates from dif-
ferent backgrounds to respond to urgent needs in cultural heritage manage-
ment, cultural tourism, architectural heritage, and sustainable development.
