This programme focuses on creating Montessori Environments, an innovative method of working with older adults living with cognitive and/or physical impairments, supporting and enabling them to care for themselves, others, and their community, and to live a meaningful life.
Montessori method can be adopted for individuals or groups as a philosophy of care and can be used at home as well as in community, residential care settings and hospitals.
It can be implemented by a range of people including, nurses, support workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, paid carers, family members, volunteers and community support workers. Any person who is interested in learning about new ways to deliver care and provide support to older adults including people living with dementia are invited to attend.

China Alzheimer’s Project and Dementia Quality Care Academy will be holding a three-day workshop on Montessori for Dementia and Ageing. This will be the first time that this AMI certified workshop is introduced into China.
Anne Kelly is a Montessorian Dementia Consultant who also holds qualifications in Post Graduate Dementia Management, Assessment and Workplace Training and Dementia Care Mapping. She has worked extensively in dementia care both residential and community for the past 30 years.
In 2009 she was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to further study Montessori methods for Dementia Care which enabled her to work alongside world experts in this area. Since her return from overseas Anne has continued to build her reputation as an experienced Aged Care Montessorian.
Anne is the Managing Director, Montessori Ageing Support Services, which is the peak body for Montessori in Aged Care in Australia. Anne is considered an Australian and World leader in Montessori Methods for Aged Care and is a member of the AMI Montessori for Ageing and Dementia Advisory Group. She is now in demand to provide mentoring and training in Montessori methods for organisations wishing to embrace Montessori methods into practice across Australia. She also has presented Montessori Ageing and Dementia Workshop all around the world.

By the end of the 3-Day workshop, participants will be able to:
✤ Link the needs, interests, skills and abilities of people living with dementia to the Montessori goals and objectives.
✤ Describe the Montessori method for dementia model and explain why this is a useful technique for elders and those living with dementia.
✤ Describe the Montessori philosophy as well as the basic Montessori principles as they relate to Aged Care.
✤ Use the Montessori principles for Aged Care, to develop a Montessori prepared environment, including programming and activities for individuals and groups.
✤ Assess current environmental strategies and know how to modify these to develop a Montessori prepared environment for Aged Care
