WHAT IS RASHTRAM?
Rashtram School of Public Leadership produces ‘self-aware’ and ‘civilisationally assured’
public leaders who are nourished by Indic Knowledge traditions and systems of thought.
The specific focus of the school is to prepare leaders in three domains - Academia, Politics,
and Social.
Rashtram will also design and conduct executive education programs, engage in research
to align institutions with Indic thought, foster an ecosystem of young leaders in India and
abroad, and strategically partner with organizations across the world.
Rashtram is an initiative by the young team at Vision India Foundation. In its five years of
operations, VIF’s Fellowship Programme has trained and mentored 30+ young and aspiring
public leaders of India. Center for Executive Education at VIF has curated 20+ innovative
learning programmes in policy-making and governance, thereby reaching out to 1200+
students and professionals across India and the world. These individuals are successfully
working as political or social consultants, researchers, and community workers, with
organisations or in individual capacities. Center for Good Governance at VIF partners with
state-level governments to bring in systemic reforms in governance. Center for Strategic &
Foreign Relations at VIF undertakes extensive research on India’s foreign policy priorities
and strategic concerns.
Rashtram’s guiding vision is “Reawakening Bharat, Elevating Global Consciousness”
RASHTRAM - SCHOOL OF PUBLIC LEADERSHIP
When we look at our public institutions, do we see a leadership committed to working for the
nation? Do our leaders inspire us to raise our consciousness and act for our nation? If not,
then what would the future of India look like? Are we leaving the development of India's
future public leaders to chance? Shouldn’t we have a framework for generating advanced
leadership?
Rashtram School of Public Leadership aims to do exactly that: incubate and accelerate the
journey of future public leaders of India. And do this year after year to populate the systems
and institutions of this country with a critical mass of committed and competent individuals
who can bring coherence between the multiple realms of Nation Building.
WHY RASHTRAM?
RASHTRAM - SCHOOL OF PUBLIC LEADERSHIP
The history of ideas is the backstory to the progress of humanity. At every turn, thinkers produced ideas that animated the imagination of the people and created hospitable conditions for change. These ideas produce ‘identity’ that can gives a sense of purpose and meaning to people. It is through this process that a state becomes a nation. In the modern context, the mandate of producing ideas is given to Academic Leaders - academicians, thinkers, opinion makers et cetera. It is up to the Academic Leaders to produce ideas that foster a holistic vision of society and humanity.
JNANA SHAKTI | THE POWER OF IDEAS
The power of will is paramount to scaling ideas from the minds of a few to the hearts of many. It is this journey that confers legitimacy to the ideas and creates agency in people. Legitimising right ideas through the creation of agency leads to ‘stability.’ In the modern context, the mandate of guiding this journey and embedding nourishing ideas into the fabric of a nation is given to Political Leaders - politicians, consultants, strategists et cetera.
ICHHA SHAKTI | THE POWER OF WILL
Action doesn’t only serve as a catalyst for results, but generates momentum and support around it. Action when channeled into productive avenues leads to ‘prosperity.’ The State cannot create prosperity. The mandate for the State should be to create the conditions for ‘stability’ in which people can exercise the natural human genius for enterprise and creativity. The lifeblood of the identity and stability needs to flow through the veins of the civil society to create ‘prosperity.’ In the modern context, the mandate of driving change in communities is given to Social Leaders - community leaders, non-profits, social movements

LEADERSHIP JOURNEY AFTER RASHTRAM
RASHTRAM - SCHOOL OF PUBLIC LEADERSHIP
LEARNING PHILOSOPHYLIVING AND LEARNING :-
We believe that ‘learning’ and ‘living’ are not two distinct activities. They are integrated and
should happen seamlessly. Thus, the learning environment and learning methods should be
as natural as life itself. Keeping this in mind, our pedagogy is titled “L2” – learning and living.
The goal of nurturing future public leaders, demands that our to be unique, robust, and
adaptive. We hope that our framework will develop into an adaptable model which can be
used by many other institutions in the future.
Instructed learning :
Curated courses with case studies, lectures, discussion models, and ‘Gurukul
Guidance.’

public leaders who support one another’s work.
RASHTRAM - SCHOOL OF PUBLIC LEADERSHIP
The L2 Framework focuses on building Meta Skills - mental models to learn better. Meta
Skills are essential in engaging with functional expertise more effectively. The development
of Meta Skills in-turn smoothen the development of essential leadership skills like critical
thinking, cognitive endurance, applied imagination, leadership communication et cetera.
Indic Knowledge Systems provide us with frameworks that will help future public leaders
learn for life. These frameworks are authentic to India and when calibrated in modern
context, help us tackle the macro problems of our future. Our ambition is that our
participants engage with, and help solve the most pressing global problems today.
Indic Knowledge Systems are also combined with Indic Well-Being Rituals that are focussed
on increasing the mental and physical well-being of our future public leaders. These rituals
also bring about a sense of harmony and community amongst our learners, that proves
useful in boosting coherence between the three domains.
Knowing oneself:
Studying your ‘svabhava’ or ‘fundamental nature,’ via introspection of aspects
such as basic personality traits, emotional intelligence, and energy channelling.
Building Intellect :
Critically engaging with the ideas that shaped the course of history,
understanding institutional design, and decoding the discourse of our time and
the worldview they stem from.
Developing Inter-personal Intelligence:
Collaboration, spirit to initiate interaction, understanding the nuances of world
cultures and perspectives, negotiation, and interpersonal skills like intellectual
clarity and humility.
Leadership:
Ability to imagine and articulate a larger vision, inspire action, generate
momentum and exercise refined judgement. Connecting to the people’s idea of
a leader and building on it.
