Thank you for choosing Happily Never After. We are confident that you will find this comprehensive packet to provide everything that you will want

and need to run your very own murder mystery party— one that will have your guests talking for weeks, if not longer.

This murder mystery experience is designed to be easy to run and fun to play for all the guests involved. The game is played with all of your guests having active roles and each guest having objectives to complete. These objectives keep the party from being pre-scripted and allow your guests to draw their own conclusions as to the motives and identity of the murderer. This format also allows for great mingling amongst your guests and ensures that all of your guests feel included. Before the night is through, each guest will discover that they have a motive for killing the victim and be inclined to protect their innocence as well as seek out the murderer. To add to the experience and suspense of the night, the murder happens during the party not before, as in some other murder mystery games. The victim is also allowed to play along after they ‘die’, since they have no clue who murdered them. Happily Never After is certain to be a hit with all of your guests.

The following pages include a simple list of things you need to do as host in order to have the party run smoothly. Once the party is going, it is up to the guests to make the most of it— something you will be surprised at how well they do.

Assigning the Characters• You, as host, will need to decide upon a character for each of your guests. The easiest way to assign the

characters is to read the character descriptions and match each character with the guest that you feel suits that particular character the best.

• If you choose NOT to know the murderer, you can simply choose NOT to read the character descriptions or examine the evidence before the party. While you will be able to play along with everyone else, you will not be able to read the descriptions when assigning the characters. (You will find a short list of the charac-ters with descriptions on the next page.)

• Because this party is dependent on at least 8 people showing up, you may want to determine ahead of time which guests are attending before assigning characters. It is recommended that you send out the general invite and the manor announcements with an RSVP date of two weeks before the party. After your guests RSVP positive, you can send them their character sheet. You can down-load invites here: http://www.nightofmystery.com/invitations.php

• If you have less than 12 guests, the game can be played without the following characters: Matilda, Imelda, Rapunzel and Cuddles. If possible, eliminate the characters in the order listed above. For instance, if you only have 11 guests coming, the game should be played without Matilda. If Matilda has been eliminated, the victim will assume that role after “death.”

• The killer will not know they are the murderer until they open their second envelope at the party.

• The victim will not know they are the victim until they get to the party. The victim will not have a list of objectives for after the murder. If the victim wishes to play along after the murder, they can do so without an identity. If you have an extra identity (a role that is not being played), they can also assume that identity if they so choose.

• Is this mystery suitable for youth and/or church groups? This is considered a teen and clean version, which means it has been edited to be a bit easier to understand for a younger audience as well as void of intermarital affairs, drugs and alcohol. However, there is still lying, thievery, deceit and MURDER involved. Many conservative and teen groups have played and enjoyed our clean versions, finding them very fit for their group.

MATILDA—QUEEN OF HEARTS. Overbearing, accusatory, and loud, this guest will have to be comfortable talking to everyone, both as a whole and one on one. Following the ‘death’, this person becomes the investigator.

THE SCROLLED GUEST LIST• This will provide information on the other guests at the party.

• This option allows you to email each of your guests their character description without having to print and mail the information.

• Please remember, the pdf file option does not include a place to enter the date, time or address of the party, so you will have to inform or remind your guests of the party location details in another fashion.

Preparing the Materials for the Party• Make name tags for the guests. (You can print out the name tags onto adhesive label paper, or print out on

regular paper and include a pin with the name tags so that the guests can secure them to their outfits.) Name tag template is compatible with most label paper for 4” x 2” labels. Note: Make sure your printer is set to print at 100% and NOT at “print to fit” or “print to scale”.

• Photocopy the printed page of money onto green paper. You will need as many copies as there are guests attending. Cut and trim the money and bundle them into packages of 10. —To skip this step, you can purchase fake/play money or coins rather inexpensively at a novelty or party store.

• Cut the objective sheets in half on the dashed lines. • Label two envelopes with each character’s name. Label one envelope with an (A) and one with a (B) for each

character. On the (B) envelope, also put “DO NOT OPEN until AFTER the murder.”In the (A) envelopes, place: a name tag, safety pin(s) to adhere the name tag, a bundle of money and the left

side of the character’s objective sheet that has objectives for the beginning of the party. In the (B) envelopes, place: the right side of the objective sheet for each character which has objectives for after

the murder happens.

Have the (A) & (B) envelopes on hand to give to the guests as they arrive.• In a separate envelope place the Investigation sheet and label it as “Investigation.” • In a separate envelope place the Evidence Presentation and label it as “Evidence.” • Place the solution in a sealed envelope and label it “Solution.”• Keep the “introduction”, the “investigation envelope,” the “evidence envelope” and the “solution enve-

lope” in a safe and convenient location so you can hand them out throughout the night as guests need them.

• Make enough copies of the ‘Who Dunnit?’ voting sheets for the number of guests attending. Cut the pages along the dashed lines.

• Make copies of the ‘smoking gun award,’ as there may be multiple people who guess the identity of the murderer.

Initial Timing For The Party

• Most likely, the length of the party will be 2-4 hours. The party length will depend on a number of factors, including how well your guests know each other and how well they mingle.

• The party may be longer if you choose to serve dinner, although much of the mingling done during Stage 2 may be done at the dinner table as well.

• Because the party is not pre-scripted, but set up in stages, as host it is important to observe the guests’ behavior and move onto the next stage when you feel it is most appropriate. This will give everyone enough time to enjoy all aspects of the party and enable it to move along at an enjoyable pace.

Stage One: The Guests Arrive• You, as host, will need to give each guest the appropriate (A) envelope that includes their money, name

tag, a safety pin and their objectives for the beginning of the party.

Stage Two: Introduction• After all the guests have arrived, hand Contessa the Introduction and have her read it aloud to everyone. • Have time for guests to mingle and complete their objectives

• This may require 30-60 minutes depending on how well your guests know each other. • If serving dinner, this may be a good time for dinner to be served.

• When guests start to settle down and you are sure the victim has completed all of her objectives, arrange for the lights to go out.

Stage Three: Murder & Investigation• When the lights come back on, the victim will be dead. • Give Matilda tape so that she can outline the position of the body on the floor. • Have Matilda read the sheet explaining the Investigation. • As host, you will hand everyone their second (B) envelope that you have prepared. This envelope will

have new information and objectives for the guests to complete now that the murder has occurred.

Stage Four: Evidence Presentation• When guests have settled down again and you feel as though most people have completed their

objectives, hand Matilda the evidence envelope that you prepared so that she can present the findings of the evidence at the crime scene to the guests.

• It is best if the evidence is then laid on a table so that everyone may see it.• Give your guests additional time to review the evidence.• Hand out the ‘Who Dunnit’ answer sheets and ask everyone to complete them and hand them back to

you during this time.

Stage Five: The Solution• When all the ‘Who Dunnit’ sheets are handed in, ask Matilda to read the solution aloud to the guests.• Calculate who the winners are and award the certificates.

Keeping You Current On Kingdom News

Prohibition of Dark MagicWhile never condoned, Contessa took the discouragement of dark magic one step further by outlawing any and all forms of dark magic in the kingdom. Speculative sources say that Contessa took this measure to improve her relationship with Snow and hide any wrongdoing she may have caused.

Fairest Of Them All Ball approaching!

SLEEPING BEAUTY AWOKENBriar Rose is now awake! Despite the outlawing of mistaffs and spindles in the kingdom, Briar Rose (also known as Sleeping Beauty) fell victim to a spindle prick 15 years ago. Since then Briar Rose has laid lifeless in the forest, until recently awoken by the kiss of a stranger! After dismissing the prince who awoke her, Briar Rose has made her way back to the kingdom of Once Upon A Time and has sought out new friendships and a new love – Prince Philip. Nuptials for the happy couple are slated for later this month.

Distraught Over DwarvesAfter they departed unexpectedly in the middle of the night recently, Snow White is very upset over the dwarves’ exodus from the kingdom. Snow believes her reunion with her mother, Contessa, may have alienated the dwarves and made them feel as though she was picking her mother over their companionship – when in fact she was not! Saddened that the dwarves would feel this way, Snow is undecided if she will seek the dwarves out and ask them to come home or not. “My daughter needs time to grieve and heal,” Contessa told the reporters. “Please give Snow her space.”

Cold Cases SolvedWith the awakening of Briar Rose, Cuddles (the kingdom’s prosecutor) received the long-awaited break that she needed. As a child, Briar Rose witnessed two crimes but fell into her slumber before she was able to talk with investigators. Among those crimes, Briar Rose will confirm that she witnessed Goldy as the intruder in the Bear Family home invasion. Additionally, Briar Rose will attest that Gretal was acting in self-defense when she pushed the witch into the oven, killing her. Until now, Gretal has never had a witness to corroborate her self-defense plea (Hansel was locked in a cage at the time). Hansel has said he is overjoyed his sister will no longer spend her life in jail, which was the case if Briar Rose had not come forward.

HELP WANTED

LOST SHEEP!

Last seen grazing in the kingdom pasture.

To celebrate her love for her daughter, Contessa is throwing the first annual “Fairest Of Them All” Ball in honor of Snow White. After rekindling their distressed relationship, both Contessa and Snow have moved beyond their past troubles to re-establish their loving and intimate mother-daughter relationship. This, and other recent, joyous kingdom events, are reason to celebrate!

Introduction to the Guests

(To be read by Contessa after all of the guests arrive.)

Hello and welcome to The Fairest of Them All Ball. For those of you who don’t know me, I am Contessa, the queen of the kingdom of Once Upon A Time. I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for being here to celebrate my lovely daughter Snow, who is a treasure to this wonderful land. I am sure that each and every one of you has a special place and purpose here tonight and I am glad that you all made it here to celebrate with us.

Secondly, I want to assure all of you that, contrary to my past behaviors, I intend to rule over the land with kindness from this day forward. As I am sure many of you are aware, I have forbidden any acts of dark magic in the kingdom and will seek punishment for those who conduct such fretful acts.

Next, I want to welcome back Briar Rose to our lands. After lying nearly lifeless in a sleep-induced coma for many, many years, Briar Rose has rejoined us making all of us, especially Prince Philip, her fiancé, very happy. We are all excited to wish Briar Rose the best on her upcoming wedding!

Lastly, I want to ask each and every one of you to keep your eyes open for people going above and beyond their call of duty tonight. Along with the grand celebration I have planned, you will also be asked to vote on those fair princesses and maidens in the kingdom that have made your night most enjoyable by their costume, their acting ability and the amount of money that they acquire by the end of the evening. Bribery, extortion, blackmail and whatever creative means you have to use your riches are not only expected, BUT ENCOURAGED in our lands.

Now ladies, let us continue to mix, mingle and enjoy one another’s company. I am sure that you all have some catching up to do with one another as the festivities continue.

Thank you.

Investigation

Investigation Directions(To be read by Matilda after the murder.)

As you can see, a murder just occurred among us. The victim, Briar Rose, just fell lifeless before our very eyes.

At this time, I need your full cooperation in this investigation. It is important that no one leave the castle as you are all considered suspects.

Currently, the host will be handing each of you a sealed envelope. Open it and read that information carefully. The envelope contains information and objectives that will help you conduct your own investigation. For some of you, it will provide bargaining and blackmailing power; for others, you may find that you are the murderer. Conduct your investigation wisely and let no one know the secrets you are not to reveal. You will try to uncover the possible motives each of you may have for wanting Briar Rose dead.

After I question some of you and conduct my own investigation into this crime, I will be presenting the tangible evidence I have found. You will get a chance to examine that evidence before making a final accusation of the killer among you. Until then, conduct your own investigation by questioning each other and uncovering possible motives for the death of Briar Rose.

Thank you. I will be addressing you again once I have collected the evidence to show you.

ContessaAfter ruling the kingdom of Once Upon A Time for decades, you have decided to start ruling “benevolently” over the

kingdom. Making this change is especially important to regain the love and respect of your daughter Snow (Snow White). You became the queen of Once Upon A Time after your late husband died on the battlefield. Upon his death, you were

left alone to rule the kingdom and raise your daughter. As time went on, you became jealous of Snow’s youthful beauty and vibrant personality. As your jealousy increased, you ruled with wickedness in your heart. Desiring to remain the fairest of them all, you ordered your woodsman to take Snow’s life – an act he was incapable of doing. You tried several times to kill Snow yourself, but failed in each attempt. After your final attempt with a poisoned apple was unsuccessful, you decided a peaceful coexistence in the kingdom was best. You reside in the castle, while Snow lives in the enchanted forest with her prince and family of dwarves.

Over the last ten years, you have felt deep regret for your lost relationship with your daughter Snow. In Snow’s absence, you developed a close friendship with Imelda (your assistant and Cinderella’s stepsister). In this relationship you led Imelda to believe that you were preparing her to assume the crown – something traditionally awarded only to the kingdom’s legacy princess (most popular princess), a title currently held by Cinderella.

When your regret and sorrow became unbearable, you approached Snow and she was willing to forgive you. Snow’s only requirement was that you give up your evil ways and rule benevolently on all future matters in the kingdom. You agreed to Snow’s conditions and immediately outlawed dark magic, showing your new commitment to kind and generous leadership.

When your relationship with Snow began to improve you were overjoyed. The dwarves in Snow’s family were the only thing hindering a deeper bond between you and your daughter. In order to remove the dwarves’ influence, you had them kidnapped and sold them as slaves to Muffy (Little Miss Muffet) for labor in her Tuffet Factory. Once gone, you informed Snow that the dwarves left the kingdom of their own accord, indicating they no longer felt needed by or close to Snow. You comforted Snow in her grief and your relationship has continued to blossom.

Other recent kingdom news concerns an awoken princess, Briar Rose (Sleeping Beauty), and the loss of another sheep by Bo Peep (the kingdom shepherdess). You informed Bo Peep she will lose her job and be sold into slavery if she does not recover the sheep. (This is the third lost sheep in a month!) After waking, Briar Rose desires to make up for lost time. Briar Rose is slated to testify in trials about crimes she witnessed several years before falling into her slumber. Additionally, Briar Rose hopes to regain her popularity and to become the legacy princess and, thus, the next queen.

With such a jovial mood in the kingdom, you have decided to throw the Fairest of Them All Ball to honor your daughter, Snow. You invited Matilda (the Queen of Hearts, known for her strict nature) as an indication to Snow that you are ruling benevolently. In reality, you are counting on the presence of Matilda aiding you in keeping your secret about the dwarves from Snow.

Acting and Dressing Your Part After many years of corrupt and wicked ruling, you are working hard to win back the adoration and support of your kingdom subjects. Thus, you will act graciously (maybe a little too graciously at times) with all of your guests. Show special kindness to your daughter Snow, and assure everyone that you are a just, kind, and generous ruler. While this is your outward appearance, you’re wicked heart has not changed. You should be pre-pared to sneak away at times with some guests to discuss your hidden secrets.

To the gala, you will want to dress in your best with a beautiful dress, long cape, crown and several jewels. As an acces-sory, you may want to bring a ‘magic mirror’, your token possession. If you are asked to bring a dish to share, consider tak-ing caramel apples or a dish with apples—your favorite treat! Imelda

As a daughter of a prominent family in the kingdom of Once Upon A Time, you had a privileged up-bringing and expected to one day be selected as the legacy princess (the most popular princess in the king-dom and heir to the throne). However, your dreams of royalty were shattered when Prince Charming chose Cinderella (your stepsister) to become his bride. After marrying Prince Charming, Cinderella quickly became the legacy princess. Your life has been miserable since. Publicly you insist you are happy for Cinderella, but nothing could be further from the truth. Secretly you loathe your step-sibling and would do anything to keep Cinderella from inheriting the crown. Since falling from your position of privilege, you became an assistant to Contessa (the evil queen), with whom you share instincts for being “wicked.”

When you took the position as Contessa’s assistant, Contessa started promising you would take over the crown – something against tradition as the crown is usually passed to the legacy princess. You find it both ironic and surprising that you are being primed to be the next queen, and Cinderella is unaware of these developments. Instead, Cinderella is worried that Briar Rose (Sleeping Beauty) – who has just awoken – will gain popularity and become the legacy princess by marrying Prince Philip. To complicate matters for Cin-derella, there are rumors that she and Prince Charming are experiencing marriage trouble – a rumor that will only lessen Cinderella’s popularity within the kingdom.

Currently, Contessa’s daughter Snow is the only thing coming between yourself and the crown. To gain Snow’s unconditional love and full devotion, Snow insists that Contessa abandon her wicked ways and rule benevolently. Contessa has conceded to Snow’s demands. Now you are afraid Contessa will lose her evil edge. You worry that Snow will also insist that Contessa follow tradition and pass the crown to the legacy princess instead of you.

Regardless of Contessa’s recent kindhearted rulings, you are not convinced Contessa has abandoned all of her evil ways. Recently, you have observed Contessa being very secretive about her meetings with Muffy (Little Miss Muffet), and you wonder if there is more to their relationship than meets the eye. To top things off, Contessa has invited Matilda (the Queen of Hearts) – someone known for her brutal and deceitful nature – to the Ball. Although you are uncertain of what all of this means, it is obvious that these actions are not consistent with a ruler whose sole focus is kindness.

As the “Fairest Of Them All” Ball quickly approaches, you are excited to attend. Although the Ball is be-ing thrown by Contessa to show Snow White how much Contessa adores her, you will use the opportunity to warn Snow to cease meddling with her mother’s ruling.

Acting and Dressing Your Part: As Contessa’s assistant, you are ready to help Contessa in any way possible. Your obedience will ensure that Contessa still plans on rewarding you with the crown when she steps down. Additionally while at the Ball, be spiteful and rude to Cinderella. Work hard to create some distaste towards her among your peers. Since the Ball is a formal event, dress in your most elegant eve-ning or formal gown. For ideas on how to dress, the latest trends and more, please see the party tips section at www.nightofmystery.com. Simply type in happily-never-after.com and explore the Guest Info and Costuming sections on the website.

Cinderella

As the legacy princess (the most popular princess in the kingdom) you are very happy with your life. You became a legacy princess by marrying Prince Charming (the most handsome prince in the kingdom), and by being kind to everyone in the kingdom – everyone, that is, except your wicked stepsister (Imelda) who always conspires against you. While your legacy princess duties are not vast, tradition dictates that the legacy princess will receive the crown when the current queen (Contessa) steps down.

Currently, the only princess who could become more popular than you is Briar Rose (Sleeping Beauty). After awakening from a 15 year slumber, Briar Rose is striving to become the kingdom’s most popular prin-cess and obtain the legacy princess title. You are doing everything you can to remain “perfect” in the eyes of everyone. You even enlisted help from your fairy godmother (Bippety) whose life goal is to see you crowned Queen.

The pressure of being perfect has taken a toll on your relationship with Prince Charming (your husband) and you two have been fighting lately. Apologetically, you explained to Charming the stress and fear that you were feeling about losing your Legacy Princess title. Since your conversation, Charming has made up with you by showering you with gifts of jewels - something you adore! Although things are better, you can’t help blaming Briar Rose for putting such stress on your marriage and hope she does not continue to do so!

In addition to Briar Rose, your stepsister (Imelda) also plan to keep you from rising in society. Currently, Imelda is the assistant to Contessa (the evil queen). It is no coincidence that both of your stepsibling has chosen to work for the woman who rules the kingdom. This makes you very scared because you do not know what Imelda may be planning for your future with Contessa.

As the ‘Fairest of Them All Ball’ quickly approaches, you can’t wait to attend. At the ball, you plan to inform Briar Rose that she will never take your title as legacy princess! Additionally, you will make alliances with the other powerful members of the kingdom, while continuing to be kind and gracious toward everyone. It’s gonna be a busy night!

Acting and Dressing Your Part: As the Legacy Princess, you should come to the party dressed in your best princess attire. This could include a beautiful gown, glass slippers, a tiara and an abun-dance of jewels. While at the party, be exceedingly gracious and kind to all of the kingdom’s maidens and princesses – a trait that led to your Legacy Princess status – which you don’t plan to lose! For ideas on how to dress, the latest trends and more, please see the party tips section at www.nightofmystery.com. Simply type in happily-never-after.com and explore the Guest Info and Costuming sections on the website.

Briar RoseYou were shocked when you recently awoke from your 15-year long slumber! The handsome prince who broke

your spell insisted that, if you were to be his wife, you would need to travel to his distant kingdom. Not interested in leaving your homeland, you thanked the prince for his kiss, declined his offer of marriage and went on your merry way to your own kingdom—a land known as Once Upon A Time.

Wanting to regain a prominent position in society, you hope to become the kingdom’s Legacy Princess. This would make you the most popular princess in the kingdom and heir to the crown. However, this position is held currently by Cinderella. To gain popularity, you will need to marry a handsome prince and prove yourself more deserving of the Legacy Princess title than Cinderella. As a first step, you convinced Ezra (Cinderella’s stepsister) to be your assistant and help you in these tasks. Ezra is extremely helpful and accommodates your every need. Also, you believe she will be especially helpful because she will do anything to see that Cinderella no longer holds the ‘legacy princess’ title.

Knowing you would need a handsome prince for a husband, you set your sights on Prince Philip as your desired mate. Prince Philip appeared to be romantically interested in another maiden. However, shortly after you declared your love for him, Prince Philip fell madly in love with you and proposed. To prove his love, you asked the Prince to buy Rapunzel’s tower for your wedding and future residence. Prince Philip repossessed the tower at your request and you accepted his marriage proposal.

However, before you can get married some legal matters need your attention. As a child, you witnessed two crimes in the woods, and were unable to testify at either trial before falling into your slumber. Now that you are awake, you intend to see that justice is done. You will bear witness that Goldy (Goldilocks) broke into the Bear family home, vandalized their furniture and stole their prized porridge before fleeing from the scene. In another case, you will free Gretal from a homicide charge by testifying that Gretal acted in self-defense when she pushed the witch into the oven (killing her). Since you are the only person who witnessed this (Hansel, Gretal’s brother, was locked in a cage in another room at the time), you are the only one who can exonerate Gretal from the homicide charge. Even though you find Gretal to be controlling and manipulative (she is currently keeping her brother from marrying Rapunzel, his love), you do not believe that Gretal deserves to be condemned for murder.

You have also agreed to testify against Goldy in another case—that of Bo Peep’s lost sheep. Just last week, Bo Peep (a shepherdess) approached you and promised to help you depose Cinderella as Legacy Princess if you would testify that you saw Goldy steal Bo Peep’s sheep. While you have no evidence of Goldy’s guilt, you can always use help in your ‘legacy princess’ campaign, so you agreed.

As the “Fairest of Them All” Ball approaches, you are very excited to attend. The ball will be an excellent place to publicize your plan to replace Cinderella as the legacy princess. It will also be a great place to win the hearts of all the kingdoms’ citizens. While at the ball, pick your future allies and enemies very carefully. You may have just woken up from your slumber, but you have been planning this for the past 15 years!

Acting and Dressing Your Part: As a princess in the kingdom, come to the ball dressed in your most elegant ball gown, adorned with a tiara and jewels. While at the ball, make as many friends as possible – always assuring them of your kindness and just manner. Assure those you are testifying for that you will see justice done! Additionally, as a bride-to-be, you will be giddy and excited with love. For ideas on how to dress, the latest trends and more, please see the party tips section at www.nightofmystery.com. Simply type in happily-never-after.com and explore the Guest Info and Costuming sections on the website.

Page 21: An Enchanted Evening Filled With Your Favorite Fairy Tale ...

©2012 Night of Mystery Inc. • www.nightofmystery.com

SnowThe daughter to an evil queen (Contessa), you have struggled your whole life with maternal issues. After

surviving your mother’s multiple attempts on your life, you now have a peaceful coexistence with Contessa. You accomplished this by acquiring a husband and adopting a family of dwarves who love you dearly. Your surrogate family has shown you nothing but love and kindness, but you are missing the mother’s love and affection you have always craved.

When Contessa came asking to re-establish your mother-daughter relationship you agreed quickly but with an important understanding. You insisted that Contessa would leave her wicked ways behind and start ruling benevolently. Contessa agreed. At your request, Contessa outlawed dark magic and made several posi-tive improvements in the kingdom management.

As your relationship with your mother improves, some of your other relationships have grown more dis-tant. Shortly after you and Contessa were reunited, the dwarves decided to leave the kingdom. They felt you had betrayed them by choosing your mother over them. Saddened, you have leaned on Contessa to help man-age your grief. In addition, Rapunzel (a princess) – a close confidant of yours – now seems distant towards you. Even though Rapunzel is going through a very trying period trying to gain acceptance from her beau’s sister (Gretal), you suspect that the real reason for Rapunzel’s distance is her jealousy of your growing bond with Contessa.

Despite your developing relationship with your mother, several things prohibit you from growing even closer to Contessa, including her close relationships with Muffy (Little Miss Muffet) and Imelda (Contessa’s assistant). In the past, Contessa was extremely reliant on Imelda. In their relationship Contessa led Imelda to believe she might inherit the crown from Contessa. Since the queen always passes the crown to the legacy princess (the most popular princess in the kingdom), which currently is Cinderella, it is wonder why Imelda believes she may be next in line for the throne. The bond between Contessa and Imelda seems to be forced and artificial in your opinion. In contrast, you are very jealous of the close bond you have witnessed between Contessa and Muffy. You fear that one day Muffy may replace you in Contessa’s heart.

As the ‘Fairest Of Them All’ Ball approaches, you can’t wait to attend. The ball will be an excellent place to socialize with all of the kingdom princesses and maidens, and to boast about your renewed relationship with your mother. While you have told Contessa you will disown her if she reverts to her evil ways, you do not know if you are ready to give up this new, close relationship – especially in the absence of the dwarves. Contessa has assured you that she is committed to ruling strongly and in a benevolent manner. She has even invited Matilda (the Queen of Hearts) to help ensure that no one acts unjustly. As each day passes, you find that you have come to depend on Contessa more than anyone. You would do anything for her, and you be-lieve she would do likewise for you.

Acting and Dressing Your Part: With skin as white as snow and lips as red as blood, you should dress in a long flowing gown for the grand event. At the gala you will be gracious and kind to every-one in the kingdom, while assuring everyone that your relationship with your mother is stronger than ever! For ideas on how to dress, the latest trends and more, please see the party tips section at www.nightofmystery.com. Simply type in happily-never-after.com and explore the Guest Info and Costuming sections on the website.

Bo PeepAs the kingdom shepherdess, you spend many of your days in the fields, sunning yourself and watching

your sheep graze. While some find this work boring, you enjoy the relaxing days and the income it provides.

Despite your love for your job, you are not always the most attentive sheep herd manager. Just the other week, you lost your third sheep this month. Irate, Contessa (the evil queen and ruler of the kingdom) has threatened to fire you and even sell you into slavery if the missing sheep are not recovered. Contessa has promised to rule benevolently, but you worry her heart is still evil and she will carry out these threats.

Distraught, you pled with Contessa to let you keep your job if you could prove that you were not to blame for your lost sheep. Knowing that Goldy (Goldilocks) will soon stand trial for a home burglary against Cuddles (baby bear) and her family, you decided to accuse Goldy of also stealing your sheep. Although you have no proof, you sought the help of Briar Rose (Sleeping Beauty). In return for Briar Rose’s testimony that she witnessed Goldy stealing your sheep, you promised to discredit Cinderella (the Legacy Princess – the most popular princess in the kingdom and next heir to the crown). Since Briar Rose’s ambitions include becoming the next Legacy Princess, she took you up on your offer. With your help, Briar Rose is hoping to disgrace Cinderella and become so popular that she displaces Cinderella as the Legacy Princess. Additionally, Imelda and Ezra (Cinderella’s wicked stepsisters) are trying to vilify Cinderella in the eyes of the public to keep Cinderella’s social status from rising. Although their past attempts have failed, you are supporting their future attempts to discredit Cinderella.

Your plans to discredit Cinderella include exposing Cinderella’s materialistic nature. Just the other week, you witnessed Prince Charming (Cinderella’s husband) withdrawing funds from the Royal Treasury to pay for gifts for Cinderella (upon her demand). You believe if you reveal Cinderella’s misuse of kingdom funds she will no longer be in everyone’s good graces.

As the ‘Fairest Of Them All’ Ball approaches, you are excited to attend. The ball will be the perfect oppor-tunity to discredit Cinderella and keep your end of the agreement with Briar Rose. Also, at the ball you want to get in the good graces of both Contessa and her daughter Snow (Snow White). You believe if Contessa does not show you mercy, Snow might.

Acting and Dressing Your Part: Deceitful and lazy, you will do anything to keep your job – even if it means framing an innocent person! While at the party, do not be afraid to embellish the truth if it will help you keep your job. To the ball come dressed in your best corseted dress, complete with bloomers, bonnet and a staff for sheep herding. Consider bringing a stuffed lamb or sheep to the ball to show everyone you are always caring for your flock. For ideas on how to dress, the latest trends and more, please see the party tips section at www.nightofmystery.com. Simply type in happily-never-after.com and explore the Guest Info and Cos-tuming sections on the website.

Goldy

Even though everyone is very excited about the kingdom’s latest news – the awakening of a princess (Briar Rose, also known as Sleeping Beauty) – you are upset. For years you have been able to plead innocence in several old crimes when prosecuted by Cuddles (baby bear, the kingdom prosecutor). However, those days may be over.

While frolicking through the woods as a child, you came upon a very peculiar cottage. Curious, you en-tered and explored the cottage before the Bear family returned. Ashamed of your actions, you fled the scene. Over the years Cuddles has been searching desperately for the intruder. Until recently she was not been able to piece together that you were responsible.

After a 15 year slumber Briar Rose (Sleeping Beauty) has awoken and is the only witness to the crimes you committed earlier (including home invasion, burglary, vandalizing). After watching you vandalize the Bear home, Briar Rose fell into a deep slumber before she was able to testify in court. With Briar Rose awake and scheduled to testify, jail is most likely in your future.. Ordinarily, you do not believe that you would be punished so strongly, but Cuddles has been demanding justice for many years, and is ready to prosecute you to the full extent of the law.

To complicate matters, Bo Peep (a shepherdess) is now claiming that you stole her sheep – a crime which you did not commit. Since this is a false claim, you plan to prove Bo Peep wrong. Once you are free of these particular charges, you hope the Court will see you as an honest, reformed individual. This outcome could lead to a lighter sentence for the other charges for which you are almost certain to be found guilty.

In contrast to your troubles, Gretal (a woodcutter’s daughter) is happy that Briar Rose is awake. Charged with a homicide several years ago, Briar Rose is now available to testify that Gretal was acting in self defense when she pushed the witch into the oven ending the her life.

As the ‘The Fairest Of Them All’ Ball approaches, you are excited to attend. With your freedom in jeop-ardy, you plan to enjoy a night of mingling with your friends. Additionally, you hope to gain more informa-tion on the circumstances surrounding Bo Peep’s lost sheep. You want to prove that Bo Peep is a liar, which could lighten your own sentence. Whatever developments or outcomes the night brings your way, you plan to use them to your advantage!

Acting and Dressing Your Part: Anxious to be attending the ball, you will try to convince everyone of your innocence in the lost sheep trial, but avoid any mention of stealing from the Bear family many years ago. To the ball, wear a dress or outfit that will accentuate your long, golden locks of hair. For ideas on how to dress, the latest trends and more, please see the party tips section at www.nightofmystery.com. Gretal

As a woodcutter’s daughter, you led a very modest childhood. So modest, in fact, that your stepmother left you and your brother (Hansel) in the woods because she feared they would starve if they had to keep feeding you and your brother. Determined to survive, you sought shelter in a candy cottage. Unfortunately, the cottage was the home of a witch who had captured you, fattened you up, and tried to boil you. In self defense you pushed the witch into a hot oven, ending the witch’s life while saving your own. After assuring your safety, you gathered some of the witch’s riches and returned home. Your stepmother had passed away so you were able to live happily ever after with your father and your brother, Hansel.

After arriving home, many were suspicious of your involvement in the witch’s death. Without a witness (Hansel was locked in the cage at the time), you were charged with homicide. As time has passed a cloud of suspicion has surrounded your role in the event. Fortunately, Briar Rose (Sleeping Beauty) has just awoken and she can serve as a witness and prove your innocence! Briar Rose witnessed your confrontation with the witch, but she fell into a deep slumber before she was able to come forward with the information. Now awake, Briar Rose will testify that you acted in self-defense. You believe this will free you from the homicide charge that has burdened you for several years!

In contrast, Briar Rose also plans to testify against Goldy (Goldilocks). Briar Rose will state that Goldy is responsible for a home invasion and burglary – a crime that left Cuddles (baby bear) and the Bear family victimized in the woods. While you cannot wait for Briar Rose to set you free from suspicion, Goldy fears she will be sent to jail. To complicate Goldy’s legal matters, Cuddles is accusing Goldy of burglary, while Bo Peep (a shepherdess) is accusing Goldy of stealing her lost sheep.

Beyond your legal matters, you are troubled by your brother’s girlfriend, Rapunzel (a princess). Since she is curious by nature, you fear Rapunzel will find the riches you took from the witch (a secret you must keep at all costs). rapunzel has sensed your dislike for her and become increasingly nosy and curious. She is adamant that she will find a way to marry Hansel, regardless of your prior actions and dislike of her.

As the ‘Fairest of Them All’ Ball approaches, you cannot wait to attend! Now that your innocence can be confirmed, you look forward to mixing and mingling with the kingdom’s royal inhabitants. Make sure every-one knows your court case is coming up and you expect to be freed from homicide charges. At the party, you plan to celebrate the upcoming wedding of Briar Rose to Prince Philip (a handsome prince). Further, you will assure Rapunzel that there is no wedding in her future – at least not to your brother!

Acting and Dressing Your Part: As a young German maiden, you will want to wear your best Dirndl—complete with a bodice, blouse, skirt, apron and braided pigtails. Also, it is important that you wear a scarf (it can be decorative) and some jewels to accompany the outfit. While at the party, you will be outgoing and happy—relieved about your freedom from suspicion! For ideas on how to dress, the latest trends and more, please see the party tips section at www.nightofmystery.com. Simply type in happily-never-after.com and explore the Guest Info and Costuming sections on the website.

MuffyRidiculed as a child for being frightened by a spider, you have become a self-confident, self-sufficient,

and hard-nosed young woman. While other girls were frolicking in the woods kissing frogs or hoping to be rescued by a prince, you studied business, economics and other subjects intensely. After saving enough money, you started a company making and selling tuffets! (Tuffets are low seats or footstools, completely covered by fabric.) When many showed significant interest in your product, you built a factory to fulfill the growing tuf-fet demand for the kingdom of Once Upon A Time and beyond.

Your growing business has created a need for workers. When you couldn’t find inexpensive labor, you con-vinced Contessa (the evil queen) it would be bad for the kingdom if your company went bankrupt. Contessa proposed to sell you seven slaves (Snow White’s dwarf family) at a very low price. Contessa’s only condi-tion on the sale was that you keep the dwarves hidden from the public and, in particular, hidden from her daughter Snow (Snow White). You agreed and, ever since, the dwarves have been working and living in your factory, safely out of the public eye.

Surprisingly, with more tuffet output came more demand. You approached Contessa again and she as-sured you that if Bo Peep (the kingdom’s shepherdess) could not recover her last lost sheep, Bo would soon be sold into slavery.

A number of individuals have been interested in your booming factory, including Rapunzel (a princess), Snow and Imelda (Contessa’s assistant). To keep your enslaved workforce a secret (the dwarves), you quickly deflect any questions about or interest in your factory. However, you are worried about Rapunzel, since she seems to be very curious and nosy. Just the other day, you overheard Gretal (woodcutter’s daughter) saying she was annoyed with Rapunzel’s inquisitive nature. Snow, on the other hand, has been interested in your personal relationship with her mother. She is very jealous of the attention Contessa has shown you instead of her.

As the ‘Fairest of Them All’ Ball (a ball to honor Snow White) approaches, you are excited to attend. The grand event will be the perfect place to quietly do some business with Contessa, while also assuring Snow that she has nothing to fear about your relationship with Contessa (her mother). Additionally, while celebrat-ing with the other characters in the kingdom, you plan to check in on how Bo Peep plans to recover her lost sheep in hopes that you gain some knowledge about your next potential employee.

Acting and Dressing Your Part: As a brazen businesswoman, you will attend the party prepared to use the situation to your advantage, both socially and professionally. Since others will be in a jovial mood, this will be an excellent time to assure Snow that you are not trying to hurt her relationship with her mother. Additionally, find out from Contessa exactly when she will help you expand your labor force. While at the gala, promote your business while deflecting any personal or probing questions about it.

To the event you will want to wear a dress, an apron, bonnet and bloomers. Additionally, bring along one or two tuffets to promote your wares. Spiders are optional. For ideas on how to dress, the latest trends and more, please see the party tips section at www.nightofmystery.com. Simply type in happily-never-after.com and explore the Guest Info and Costuming sections on the website.

Rapunzel

After living many years locked away in a tower, you now are a vibrant and vivacious but ruthless young woman. You are unwilling to succumb to the demands of those who try to unjustly exert their power. After receiving your independence, many speculated you would want to flee from the place where you were held captive as a child. However, nothing could be further from the truth.

Although you fantasize about remaining in your tower forever, this dream is now in jeopardy. After years of remodeling and decorating your residence, Prince Philip has demanded that you find another home. Even though Prince Philip has never had a prior interest in your tower, his fiancé, Briar Rose (Sleeping Beauty) insisted that Prince Philip acquire the property to demonstrate his love for her. Briar Rose believes your tower is the perfect place for their wedding ceremony and royal residence.

As Briar Rose and Prince Philip’s wedding draws closer, you are running out of time to find a convinc-ing argument for keeping your tower. Prince Philip and Briar Rose are the impending “legacy couple”—the most popular couple in the kingdom—a title currently held by Cinderella and Prince Charming.

Knowing you may soon be out of a home, you have inquired about job opportunities at the Tuffet Fac-tory, only to be turned down. You find it odd that Muffy (Miss Muffet) would not give you any information on her company and you plan to find out what she is hiding.

Throughout these hardships, the one thing that has kept you focused on your future is your love for Hansel, a woodcutter’s son. In spite of your deep love for each other, Hansel’s sister Gretal stands in the way of your marriage. Since you began dating, Gretal has been strongly opposed to your relationship with her brother. Hansel has pleaded with you to be patient, saying that Gretal would soon go to jail for killing a witch during her childhood. Although Gretal did kill the witch in self defense, until recently there were no witnesses. (Hansel was locked in a cage at the time.)

Unfortunately, Briar Rose (Sleeping Beauty) has now awoken from a 15-year slumber and can testify in Gretal’s defense – stating that she saw Gretal act in self defense. Gretal’s trial will soon take place, and the timing could not be worse for you. Now, you will need to find another way to get rid of Gretal so you can marry your true love. Hopefully, Matilda’s (the Queen of Hearts) upcoming visit will be helpful. Since Matilda is known for her ruthless and brutal nature, you hope to convince Matilda that Gretal is guilty of a different infraction and should be punished accordingly (off with her head!).

With the ‘Fairest of Them All’ Ball right around the corner, you will use this event to voice your wishes. You hope to overturn Prince Philip’s demands and keep your tower. At the ball you plan to enlist the help of Snow (Snow White) and Matilda (the Queen of Hearts). Snow is opposed to Miss Muffet and may help you uncover Muffy’s secrets. Additionally, Matilda (the Queen of Hearts) is known for her ruthlessness and heartless search for justice. You hope to convince her to rule in your favor.

Acting and Dressing Your Part: Ambitious and determined, you will attend the ball ready to win back your tower. At the party you will wheel and deal with people to win their support. Clearly, having the support of your peers is the only way to convince Prince Philip that he should not kick you out of your tower. To impress others, dress in your princessly best, complete with a tiara in your extremely long hair. For ideas on how to dress, the latest trends and more, please see the party tips section at www.nightofmystery.com. Simply type in happily-never-after.com and explore the Guest Info and Costuming sections on the website.

©2012 Night of Mystery Inc. • www.nightofmystery.com

CuddlesAs the only child in the Bear family, you have spent your life seeking justice for a crime committed

against your family – a home invasion, burglary and vandalizing. Many years ago, you came home from a walk in the woods with your parents and found an intruder in your house. Traumatized after watching the criminal flee, you spent your life studying law, becoming the kingdom’s prosecutor and searching for the cul-prit who ran from your home 15 years ago.

You were relieved when Briar Rose (Sleeping Beauty) awoke from her 15-year slumber and indicated she could identify the criminal who victimized your family. With clear and compelling testimony Briar Rose accused Goldy (Goldilocks) of being the guilty party. Briar Rose went on to explain that, as a child, she had witnessed a number of crimes in the woods. However she fell into a deep slumber before she could come for-ward in these cases. Briar Rose plans to testify against Goldy in your case and she will also testify that Gretal (a woodcutter’s daughter) was acting in self defense when she killed the witch many years ago. This will solve another long-standing, unsolved case. Currently, Gretal is facing a homicide charge and Briar Rose’s testi-mony will exonerate her from that dreadful crime.

As the kingdom’s prosecutor, you are grateful for Briar Rose’s testimony. You have informed Briar Rose that it is her duty to take care of her legal matters before marrying Prince Philip, and she has agreed. To speed up matters, you have already taken affidavits from Briar Rose pertaining to both Goldy’s and Gretal’s cases.

In an additional case, Bo Peep (a shepherdess) is now claiming that her sheep is not lost, but stolen! You are pleased that Bo Peep plans to file charges against Goldy, since it can only help to condemn Goldy in the other trial.

As the ‘Fairest Of Them All’ Ball approaches, you are happy to attend! At the ball, you will let Goldy know you do not plan to let her go free! Additionally, you want to see how Bo Peep can assist you in putting Goldy behind bars. While the party will be a joyous occasion, you intend to use it to your advantage and gain additional information for each of the pending cases.

Acting and Dressing Your Part: Cute and cuddly on the outside, you are a hard-nosed prosecutor out to seek justice. At the party, you will partake in some merriment, but your main focus will be condemning Goldy for the trauma she caused 15 years ago. As a bear in the enchanted forest, you will want to come to the gala dressed in brown, with fur (faux or real) as an option. Additionally, you could accessorize your outfit with brown ears, a black nose and a small tail. For ideas on how to dress, the latest trends and more, please see the party tips section at www.nightofmystery.com. Simply type in happily-never-after.com and explore the Guest Info and Costuming sections on the website.

Matilda

As the Queen of Hearts in the Land of Wonderland, you are a ruthless ruler who hands out very harsh punishments – most ending with a beheading. Thankfully, your dubious and devout husband (the King of Hearts) is often by your side, pardoning those you have sentenced. While you enjoy many past times in your own kingdom, you are looking forward to traveling through the looking glass (without your husband) to at-tend the ‘Fairest of Them All’ Ball in the kingdom of Once Upon A Time.

Although you look forward to a vacation away from your land, the real reason you wish to attend the ball is to reunite with your old friend, Contessa (the evil queen), who is rumored to have given up her wicked ways. Not only has Contessa stated that she wishes to rule benevolently over the kingdom, but she has out-lawed dark magic to ensure no evil-doing will take place. Apparently, Contessa has taken these measures at the request of her estranged daughter Snow (Snow White). Over the past several years, Contessa has sought to have a strong, close relationship with her daughter. Knowing Contessa would give up anything for her daughter, you fear Contessa will lose some of her ruling power by not handing out the strict punishments, which make for an obedient kingdom. Coincidentally, Contessa has expressed a desire to keep a few charac-ters in her kingdom in line but, without reverting to her wicked ways, cannot hand out harsh punishments as you can. In essence, Contessa has asked you to do some of her dirty work. With this secret arrangement in place, Snow will not blame her mother for the evil punishments you can hand out, helping to keep all of Contessa’s subjects in line.

As the ball draws closer, you are excited to attend. While at the event, you look forward to reconnecting with Contessa and finding out if she has lost her evil edge or if she is only acting to satisfy Snow’s desire for a new, kindhearted mother. Additionally, you will probably be needed to hand out some harsh and unbiased punishments while at the ball. Certainly, if anyone steps out of line, you will investigate and the guilty party will receive your ultimate punishment – off with their head!

Acting and Dressing Your Part: Excited to be in the land of Once Upon A Time, you are a jovial Queen but with a wicked side as well. As a spontaneous and erratic character, you tell people exactly what you are thinking instantaneously. Coming to a foreign land through the mirror, you will be very curious about matters in this new kingdom. Your attire for the ball will include a crown and an elegant gown made of your favorite colors (red, black and white), which features hearts and a high, white collar. Additionally, you may wish to bring a mallet, since croquet is your favorite sport. For ideas on how to dress, the latest trends and more, please see the party tips section at www.nightofmystery.com. Simply type in happily-never-after.com and explore the Guest Info and Costuming sections on the website.

Evidence Presentation(To be read by Matilda after everyone has completed their second set of objectives and Matilda has completed her investigation)

After reviewing all the facts of this murder and conducting my own investigation, this is what I have uncovered pertaining to this murder.

Briar Rose, known to many of you as Sleeping Beauty, was slain tonight with a spindle. Since history proves that spindles can be deadly when Briar Rose is pricked, there is no doubt that the culprit meant death as the end result.

Upon further investigation, I uncovered some evidence to help in the investigation.

EXHIBIT A (hold up exhibit A) is a note found on Briar Rose’s body.

EXHIBIT B (hold up exhibit B) the weapon we found at the scene of the crime.

EXHIBIT C (hold up exhibit C) the wedding invitation that indicates that Briar Rose was to marry Prince Philip later this month.

EXHIBIT D (hold up exhibit D) are the court documents turned over by Cuddles. It appears that Briar Rose was meant to testify in a couple of cases later this month.

EXHIBIT E (hold up exhibit E) is payment for jewels. These were turned over by Bo Peep, who thought that Briar Rose may have been referring to the “stealing of kingdom funds”.

EXHIBIT F (hold up exhibit F) are the Tuffet Company’s records.

EXHIBIT G (hold up exhibit G) is a picture of Bo Peep. Goldy claimed she was going to use this picture to help her escape the charges made by Cuddles and Briar Rose.

I will leave these articles of evidence out so you can review them as you make your own claims about the identity of the murderer. Thank you for your help with the investigation.

Affidavit I, Briar Rose, do swear and affirm that the following Statement is true and correct by the best of my knowledge and belief.

Statement AS a child, I loved to spy on a witch that lived in a great candy cottage. I would go often to secretly watch her. One day, I was spying on her and I noticed that she had a huge pot of boiling water. Then, I saw the witch try to push Gretal into the boiling pot of water, Gretal fought back and pushed the witch into the oven in self defense.

Affidavit I, Briar Rose, do swear and affirm that the following Statement is true and correct by the best of my knowledge and belief.

Statement When I was younger and walking in the woods, I saw Goldy force her way into the Bear cottage. I went to the window to watch. From my view point, I was able to see Goldy break some of the furniture, eat the meals that were set on the table and then fall asleep in the beds. When the Bear family came home, I tried to warn them, but they were too fast for me. Goldy awoke and fled the scene. I wanted to come forth with this information before, but my fairy godmother warned me I could not be in the public eye until after my 16th birthday, at which time I was going to testify.

Solution(To be read by Matilda after everyone has turned in their accusations)

While it is true there are many people who wanted Briar Rose dead, I found only one who had both the means and the motive to kill Briar Rose.

First, I looked to the murder weapon (Exhibit B), a spindle. We know from folklore (and by reading the Royal News) that all the spindles and spinning needles were forbidden in the kingdom shortly after the birth of Briar Rose. In order to obtain a spindle, the murderer must live outside of the kingdom.

I then looked at the wedding announcement (Exhibit C), which has a map of the kingdom to find that the woodcutter’s cottage (Gretal’s residence) and Miss Tuffet’s factory were the only two residences that exist out-side of the kingdom boundaries.

When considering the motive, I looked to Exhibit A, the note found on the body. From examining the handwriting on the affidavits in Exhibit D, I concluded that the note found on the body was written BY Briar Rose, not TO Briar Rose. This shows Briar Rose was about to expose someone’s thieving ways.

Next, I looked into the evidence dealing with our two prime suspects – Miss Tuffet and Gretal – to find out which suspect may have been guilty of stealing.

Briar Rose’s affidavits (found in Exhibit D) confirmed that Briar Rose intended to clear Gretal of her homi-cide charge and mentioned nothing of stealing.

Miss Tuffet’s evidence (Exhibit F) exposed much in the ways of lying and labor violations, but no evidence of stealing.

While at first neither of the suspects seemed to be guilty, I then realized he court docket (also found in Ex-hibit D) mentioned a second charge in Gretal’s case – that of burglary from the witch.

Since the affidavit does not address this charge, we can only assume Briar Rose was going to testify against Gretal on the burglary charge. Gretal must have killed Briar Rose to have that testimony remain unspoken.

To further coincide with these accusations, we see that:

- Gretal is wearing a scarf that was homespun, indicating she may have access to a spindle.

- Gretal is also wearing jewels (presumably stolen from the witch) and something very uncharacteristic of a woodcutter’s daughter.

- At the party, Gretal noted that she does not intend to split her inheritance with Rapunzel – so it must be a considerable amount.

- Folklore indicates that Gretal pushed the witch into the oven, then stole the witch’s riches before she and her brother returned home to her woodcutter father.
