Getting Started eBay is a large but common auction website and this manual will show you step-by-step instructions on how to use the main functions of the website such as buying and selling. Use this guide to get started operating eBay. This manual includes sections on how to set up an account, buying, selling, and setting up an eBay account. This guide will help users buy and sell on eBay in 10 to 15 minutes, even those who only have a basic knowledge of how to use the internet.

Setting Up an eBay Account In this section you will learn how to get started with eBay by setting up an account.

Registering for a Personal Account 1) Go to www.ebay.com. 2) Click “register” in the upper left-hand corner of the page.(See Figure 1-1)

3) Fill in the appropriate information in the boxes. (See Figure 1-2)

[Note: Fill in the most accurate information as possible, eBay is a secure website and everything is confidential.]

4) Click the Submit button. (See Figure 1-3)

5) Click “sign in” in the upper left hand corner of the page next to the register button. 6) Login using your username and password.

Registering for a Business Account 1) Go to www.ebay.com. 2) Click “register” in the upper left-hand corner. (See Figure 1-4)

3) Click “start a business account”. (See Figure 1-5)

4) Fill in the information about your business in the box. (See Figure 1-6)

[Note: Fill in the most accurate information possible so that eBay can help decide what is best for your business]

5) Click on the box next to “I agree to the following.” (See Figure 1-7)

6) Click on the continue button.

7) Choose a company user ID and password. (See Figure 1-8)

[Note: If you need help choosing an ID click on the link “How to pick a great user ID” under the first box.]

8) Click the continue button. 9) Go to the email account that you typed above. 10) Click the Confirm button in the email that they sent you. 11) Go back to www.eBay.com. 12) Login to your eBay business account.

Buying This section instructs you step by step on how to buy an item on eBay.

Account 1) Login to your account. 2) Click on the buy tab in the upper right of the screen. (See Figure 2-1)

Browsing your item 1) Type what you want to buy into the search bar. (See Figure 2-2)

2) Click on the categories to the left to narrow down the item you like. (See Figure 2-3) [Note: By using the tap on the left, you can use options such as categories, features, conditions, or even price range to adjust your options.]

3) Select the item that you like.

Buying your item 1) Look at the pictures (if given), read descriptions, and read possible shipping and payments

options before deciding to buy. (See Figure 2-4)

2) Check Seller information on the top right to see whether the seller is credible. [Note: You may also send a message to the seller for further questions.]

3) Choose your purchase method between Place Bid option or Buy Now option. (See Figure 2-5) [Note: Place Bid option is like auction. After bidding a wanted price that is higher than that of the previous bidder, you have to wait until the official bidding time is finished. Whoever bid higher price before the time ends wins the product.] [Note 2: Buy Now option allows you to purchase the item right away without waiting time; however the price for Buy Now option may cost higher than the Place Bid price.]

4) Inspect your item and options. 5) Click Buy It Now or Add to cart.

[Note: You may register multiple items in your cart by clicking on Add to cart, and buy all of them at once.]

Choose your payment options 1) Choose the payment option you want from the list. (See Figure 2-6)

[Note: This information is described on Shipping and payment page of items section.] [Note: Usually it will be done through PayPal or BillMeLater option.]

2) Check if the listed item (or items) in your cart is (are) the one that you want. 3) Enter to apply discount on your overall purchase, if you have a redemption code. 4) Then click on Continue.

Selling This section is used to help you start selling. This section gives step by step instruction on how to list the item you want to sell online.

Account 1) Login to your account. 2) Click on the sell tab in the upper right of the screen. (See Figure 3-1)

Creating your listing 1) Type in key words that will help place you item in appropriate category.

2) Pick a matching category that pops up and click “Create your Listing”. (See Figure 3-3)

Setting Up a Paypal Account PayPal helps buyers and sellers all over the internet send and receive money. EBay requires a PayPal account in order to receive payment or pay for eBay transactions. This section covers how to create a PayPal account with your banking or credit card information, and link it to the eBay account you created.

Getting Started 1) Go to www.paypal.com into your browser. 2) Click the blue Sign Up button to the top right of the page. (See Figure 4-1)

3) Click the Get Started button under “PayPal for personal use.” (See Figure 4-2) [Note: Since this PayPal account will be for use on eBay, if you want one for a business click the “GetStarted on the right.”]

Entering Your Information 1) Enter your personal information on the “Enter your information” page as accurately as possible.

[Note: PayPal will not list this information on your public profile, but needs it.]

2) Click the box that reads “Yes I have read and agree to the following.” [Note: If you like, PayPal offers links to review the User Agreement, Privacy Policy, Acceptable Use Policy, and Electronic Communication Delivery Policy before completing registration]

3) Click the Agree and Create Account button after you input your information.

Security Challenge 1) Enter the code of letters and numbers displayed. 2) Click the Continue button.

The next page will prompt you to link your new PayPal account to a bank account or a debit or credit card. You must provide at least the bank account information to receive payment for eBay sales

Bank Account All eBay payments you receive will transfer to the bank account you provide.

1) Click the Continue button under “Link your bank account.” 2) Select either Checking or Savings as it applies to which account you will use at the “Pay with

your bank account” page. (See Figure 4-3)

3) Enter your routing number and account number in the boxes labeled for each. [Note: A bank check from your account has these numbers printed at the bottom. The routing number will be a 9-digit number string, and the account number will be a 3-17 digit number string]]

4) When you finish, click the Continue button.

Debit or Credit Card 1) Click the Continue button under “Link your debit or credit card.” 2) Enter your card number in the box labeled “Credit card number.” at the “Link your debit or

credit card” screen. (See Figure 4-4) [Note: PayPal only accepts cards from Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.]

3) Enter the expiration date and Card Security Code (CSC) printed on your card in the “Expiration date” area.

4) Verify that PayPal lists the correct billing address. [Note: The billing address will default to the address you provided when you created the account. If you use a different address for billing purposes, click the “Change” link.]

5) Enter the appropriate address information. 6) Click “Save.” 7) When you finish, click the Continue button

[Note: If you did not enter Bank Account information, PayPal will take you to the “Pay with your bank account” page. Refer to the steps for “Bank Account” to link your bank account] PayPal will transfer you to your My Account page.

Linking Your PayPal and eBay Accounts 1) Go to www.ebay.com. 2) Login. 3) Hover your cursor over the text to the top left of the home page that reads “Hi, [your name]!” 4) Click on “Account Settings”, eBay will take you to the My Account section. In the center of the

screen, you will see a section titled “Your PayPal Account Information” 5) Click on the Link My PayPal Account button.

[Note: This will transfer you to PayPal’s “Link Your Account” page.]

6) Enter the e-mail address and password you registered with PayPal. 7) Click the Link My Account button. (See Figure 4-5)

8) Click the Return to eBay button. This will transfer you back to the My Account section on eBay. 9) Under the “Your PayPal Account Information”, find the text that reads “What else can you do?”

where you clicked the Link My PayPal Account button in step 7. (See Figure 4-6)

10) You should read “Your eBay account is linked with your PayPal account.” Followed by the email you registered with PayPal. [Note: If you need to disconnect your eBay account from your PayPal account, click “Remove link” next to your e-mail.]

You are unable to change the picture or add keywords if the item already has a bid. Cancel your auction, change what you want and repost the item.
