An artist’s haven: Decatur, Ga

Located less than four miles away from Emory University, Decatur is home to a number of delicious

eateries including Iberian Pig, Leon’s Full Service and Cakes & Ale. But the local artist scene makes

up the heart of this city. Below are four venues where you can enjoy and/or participate in the arts.

Eddie’s Attic

Eddie’s Attic is a music enthusiast’s dream. Every night, a variety of local artists showcase their

talent on stage here. Past performers include John Mayer, Kate Campbell and Al Stewart. While

tickets are sold at the door, shows are often sold out, so remember to buy your tickets online for a

guaranteed seat.

perform a gig of your own! The winner gets a $100 cash prize, and all winners are invited to the Bi-

Annual Open Mic Shootout in June or November to compete for the $1000 cash prize.

Java Monkey

Every Saturday at 8:00 p.m., local poets gather to perform at Java Monkey. Stared in 201, Java

Monkey Speaks attracts a small crowd each week. Come get inspired through lyrical verses and

powerful lines.

Open since 2010, HomeGrown Decatur sells work from over 100 local artists. All staff members are

also local artists, and in 2012, Creative Loafing Atlanta named it “best place to meet the maker.”

Decatur Arts Alliance

The Decatur Arts Alliance offers events throughout the year, such as Sidewalk Saturday in the

spring. During these Saturdays, sidewalks are covered in colorful creations, and live music fill the
