INSIDE
T he Aligarh Muslim University is a residential
academic institute which came into existence
by the efforts of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, a Great
Reformer. He laid the foundation of the
Mohammadan Anglo Oriental College (MAO
College) which is now known as Aligarh Muslim
University. AMU occupies an exalted position
among Indian Universities and its contribution to
nation building is in no way inferior to the best
among the lot. AMU is perhaps the only University
in the country, which has high schools in its
domain. The University offers 325 courses.
AMU ranks 5th on the India Today– Nielsen’s list
of India’s top Universities. AMU also embarked on
a spree of tie-ups, signing MOUs with Wisconsin
University, Cleveland University, Atlanta
University, Johns Hopkins University and New
York University.

ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERSITY
Zakir Husain College of Engineering & Technology with its foundation stone laid on 21st November 1938, stands today as an epitome in the field of engineering and technology, manifesting quality education to build intellectual competitiveness. ZHCET named after a great scholar of AMU and the former President of India, Dr. Zakir Husain, extends its arms for hundreds of students from across the country and abroad. Technical education has become inevitable because encroachment of technology in each and every sphere of human life has left us
craving for more. Thus, technology education is heralding its importance in this era of global leadership. It provides its students with modern educational facilities while retaining traditional values, as well as using its strong industrial contacts to shape young, talented individuals who can compete in the global arena. In the present scenario, a booming institute is one which is flexible enough to mould itself according to the ever-changing prospects and demands of the country. ZHCET, too, is one such institution.
ZAKIR HUSAIN COLLEGE OF
ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
AMU RoboClub is a students' initiative to create a sustainable
innovation system where a great exchange of knowledge takes
place in practical sense. As a students’ club, it facilitates team work, analytical
thinking, problem solving and applying science & technology. In a nutshell this Club
confronts students to the actual world of engineering. In today’s world everyone is
in need to know how to use technology, but it’s equally important to understand
how to create it and that is the basic motive of this club. Formed in 2008, AMU
RoboClub is a hub of all technical activities. Established at Zakir Husain College of
Engineering and Technology, AMU (Aligarh, India), aims to sharpen the technical
skills of the students of the faculty of engineering in AMU under one roof by
imparting them the knowledge of robotics and other emerging technologies, besides
providing a platform to implement the innovations dwelling in their minds.
The activities of the club include weekly lectures, workshops, project assistance and
project development. The Club even offers individual guidance, online workshops
(webinars), project assistance and development of learners’ boards, equipment,
components and workspace. Since its formation, the club has always progressed and
focused on developing solutions that can tackle problems at industrial levels. AMU
RoboClub has been working in this direction since the time of formation. The Club
has worked to enhance the abilities of SWAT team of Aligarh Police Department.
Till now numerous project have been built to meet the demands at industrial levels.
The members enrolled with the club learn about robotics and other emerging
technologies to keep pace with the advancing technologies. This vision of the club
has led several members to prove their talents at many prominent events both
national and international.
National Achievements being winning at various tech-fests and prominent
conferences/seminars and international referring to the SIAR scholarships that is
given for excellent performance in the field of Robotics. The scope of activities is not
confined to only robotics or embedded system solutions but also to the developing
technologies in all fields of engineering and sciences. The count of projects
developed has reached over 75 within a short span of 5 years. And over 15 projects
that have been added last year alone. AMU RoboClub is operated by students along
with a Faculty-In-Charge and few Faculty Advisors. The team manages the working
of the club and the club behaves as an autonomous association of students by
students and for students.
Achievements made by the members are numerous. Ms Musfira received the SIAR
scholarship from University of Maynooth Ireland), Mr Shahbaz Khan was awarded
the best student award by Tata Consultancy Services, Mr Ibadur Rehman stood first
in JK White Design Challenge competition organized by IIT Kanpur during Techkriti,
Mr Sarfraz Alam Khan stood first at a paper presentation in Cognizance-IIT Roorki,
Mr Saif Rehman was a part of ICARUS (students’ conference organized by IIT
Kanpur), Ms Sameerah Desnavi won the first prize at Techfest (IIT Bombay), Mr
Faraz Ahmad developed a Web-Monitor( a low cost Video Surveillance robot) to
mention a few.
Recently, the club has started incubation and development cell under which it aims
to encourage development of research based projects and develop the ideas into
real life products which finally promotes entrepreneurship. Several new projects
have been developed under this cell that presents a solution to various Industrial
problems. This year a team of first year students developed an
Autonomous Electroplating Station that would improve the quality of the process
and reduce human effort.
This Club welcomes anyone, who has the zeal to learn technology and is passionate
for getting into technicalities. Everyone can be a part of this club (be it of any branch
or stream) as we believe in the exchange of knowledge be it any, especially in the
field of Robotics. AMU RoboClub’s another motive is to apply robotics on society
and trigger widespread social and economic change, for which the members are
trying their best. AMU RoboClub also takes up industrial projects. It also designed
and implemented an advanced buzzer system for University Literary Club (ULC),
AMU and many more achievements since its 5 years voyage till now.
The Club along with a strong Alumni Network and Faculty support, aims high to
innovate and implement ideas that could bring about a positive change in the
society.
Since 2008, AMU RoboClub has been constantly rising and making a mark at varsity, district and even
national level. The students are motivated to think innovatively and further implement it. There has
been an exponential rise in the number of students joining the club and the projects developed along
with a huge list of achievers at the National Level Competitions. The club has over 200 members in
2012-13 session alone, over 75 projects built till date and counting. The support of Teacher-In-Charge,
Faculty Advisor and a strong alumni network is the basic reason behind the influence and motivation.
Students have been working hard under the umbrella of the Club to materialize their ideas.

Finance Flow AMU RoboClub is an initiative by the students and hence the contribution comes from the
students only. The members are enrolled by paying a very small sum of ` 80/- per year! This
amount covers the expenses for each member’s requirement in the club including hand-outs,
tutorials, info-Portal (AMU RoboClub’s Knowledge Bank), publicity and promotion materials and a
Certificate of Membership. The Club received some contribution in form of Equipment and a
working space in 2012. This was facilitated by the then Principal of Zakir Husain College of
Engineering and Technology, Professor Ekram Husain. The workshops on embedded systems and
robotics and other developing areas is organized in college at the break-even point.
The projects that are developed under the club are a result of member’s sole financial contribution
involved in that project. A sum of ` 500/- on an average are spent on small projects and over
` 5000/- on larger projects (that too is managed by the students involved in that project). This year
some alumni contributed and funded for the “ROBOSUMMER 13” under which three projects are
build till date and one under development. AMU RoboClub contributes to these project
developments by providing existing equipment and a working space along with mentorship and
guidance.
