Communications Coordinator / Graphic Designer

(1-year Maternity Leave Contract)

Position Description

Purpose:

The role of the Communications Coordinator/Graphic Designer is to develop and enhance the communications strategy of the Alliance of Manitoba Sector Councils. This one year Maternity Leave contract position is responsible to provide support in coordination and implementation of AMSC’s internal and external communications initiatives to stakeholders and audiences and will work under the supervision of the Executive Director and will collaborate with the other staffs and/or volunteers.

Responsibilities/Duties:

Communications Plan: Assisting in planning, implementing and evaluating communications strategies and plans aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic plan;

Departmental Support: Provide communications and graphic design support for the Alliance of Manitoba Sector Councils and its 18 sector councils, and all programs of the Alliance of Manitoba Sector Councils;

Technical Support: Prepares visual presentations by designing art and copy layouts for training and networking events promotional materials and registration forms, visual identity and various publications as needed; support all events with confirmation / reminders, agenda preparation, and preparation of other educational and outreach items for the events, registration and feedback / evaluations;

Public Relations: Coordinate the public relations programs for the Alliance of Manitoba Sector Councils: maintain an electronic communications network for the organization to all sector councils and send out regular notices and announcements, manage E-Newsletter distribution lists, collect all sector councils’ ongoing events and news and frequently update on the Alliance of Manitoba Sector Councils’ media platform (website, Social media, E-Newsletter, and LED sign);

Website: Help maximize and manage the content the Alliance of Manitoba Sector Councils’ website, coordinate Manitoba Mentors and WISNIT website upgrades and changes;

Social Media: Coordinate the ongoing efforts in the Alliance of Manitoba Sector Councils’ Facebook and Twitter pages;

E-Newsletter: Coordinate the planning, writing, editing, production and distribution of monthly e-newsletter;

Outdoor LED Sign: Design, update, and maintain the on-going events’ slides; Publications: Contribute to research, writing, proofreading and producing publications

as needed; Meetings/Special Events: Provide communications support for AMSC Committees and

special events; assist with preparation of report for the Annual General Meeting; Other duties as determined by the Executive Director and senior staff members.

Performance Expectations:

Develops a detailed work plan for all projects and assignments;

Meets all targets and deadlines for projects that are undertaken;

Pays close attention to detail and confidentiality;

Shows excellent organizational skills, initiative and imagination;

Fields and prioritizes confidential or sensitive information with discretion and accuracy;

Follows up with supervisor regarding the status/completion of assigned duties via e-mail,

verbal, or written instructions. Draws supervisor’s attention to new or unusual situations;

Handles a wide variety of items with discretion, few errors and some supervision.

Desired Skills and Experience:

Minimum of 2 years demonstrated experience in communication coordination;

Excellent technical computer skills excelling in: database management, website

maintenance, graphic design on both PC and Macintosh;

Strong knowledge of Adobe CS5 (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver) and

Microsoft Office;

Excellent oral and written communication skills;

Expert attention to detail, and an eye for catching inconsistencies

Highly organized and able to work under pressure and to a strict deadline;

Must be a team player;

Strong office administration and coordination skills

Experience quoting and managing print jobs, as well as working with printers;

Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communications or related field or

equivalent experience

Working Conditions:

Responsibilities also include coverage of the 1000 Waverley front reception area.

Hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Terms of Employment

The Alliance of Manitoba Sector Councils is committed to employment equity and

The annual salary of pay is $30,000-33,000, 37.5 hours/week. Position and details are

subject to funding approval.
