HS Credits● High School credits are the primary way to document that a student has met
academic requirements. ● A scholar needs at least 44 credits to graduate from HS.* NYSAA are for students who
are severely disabled; they graduate based on a compilation of portfolios created throughout their high school career.
● Students can graduate if they acquire at least 44 credits; which are made up of credits per subject area. Students at AMS IV are considered on track if they have earned all credits attempted credits.
RegentsAMS IV offers the following NYS Regents
● ELA● ALGEBRA I, GEOMETRY, ALGEBRA II (TRIG)● LIVING ENVIRONMENT, EARTH SCIENCE, CHEMISTRY● GLOBAL HISTORY & U.S. HISTORY
Courses & CreditsCredits at AMS IV are obtained at the successful completion of each Trimester* passing at AMS IV is 65+
For example:
Any ELA course: 1 credit per Trimester; end of school year = 3 credits
PE: 0.40 credit per Trimester; end of school year = 1.2 credits
Mandarin: 1 credit per Trimester; end of school year = 3 credits
Any Math course: 1 credit per course; end of school year = 3 credits
Science Course: 0.67 credit per trimester; end of school year = 2.01 credits
AP Courses: 1 credit per trimester; end of school year = 3 credits (College/Universities decide whether they accept the AP credits or not).
Required Tests At the end of each Trimester each course offers a final exam. So that teachers can assess comprehension.
At AMS IV we strive for our students to be challenged in every aspect, that is why we require our students to take a Regents in any course they take that may require one. In preparation of Regents we also offer Mock Regents exams.
Additionally for students who take AP courses, they will take the AP Exam for that particular subject. If a student obtains a 3 or higher they qualify to receive credit(s) and/or advance placement in college. (Depends on the College)
In order to prepare for College and beyond, we require our students to take the SAT exam twice (once their Junior year and once their Senior year). AMS IV has a partnership with Khan Academy which is an online program that gives scholars SAT prep based on their individual needs and is FREE!
