Background – Florescent lighting/Lamp Testers

• Typically a fluorescent lamp will last between 10 to 20 times as long as an equivalent incandescent lamp when operated several hours at a time.

• If the lamp is installed where it is frequently switched on and off, it will age rapidly

• Fluorescent lamps require a ballast to stabilize the current through the lamp, and to provide the initial striking voltage required to start the arc discharge.

• Takes about 20-30 minutes to troubleshoot and change out a bulb without a lamp tester
