Among other accomplishments, Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727) invented calculus, developed the laws of motion, and developed the law of gravitational attraction.

Kinesiology Kinesiology is combination of 2 words ‘Kinesis’ and ‘logia’ where kinesis means Motion and Logia means study, so the study of motion is known as kinesiology.

Motion A body is said to be in motion if it changes its position with respect to time.

1st Law – An object at rest will

stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion at constant velocity, unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

Inertia It is the tendency of a body to resist any change in its position of motion or of rest.

2nd Law – The rate of Change of momentum is directly proportional to applied Force.

Momentum It is the product of mass and velocity.

And it is denoted by p.

So, p= mv.

3rd Law – For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Page 14: Among other accomplishments, Sir Isaac Newton

The third law states that all forces exit in pairs : if one object A exerts a force FA on a second object B, then B simultaneously exerts a force FB on A, and the two force are equal and opposite: FA = FB.

Page 15: Among other accomplishments, Sir Isaac Newton

This law is sometimes referred to as the action-reaction law, with FA called the “action” and FB the “reaction”. The action and reaction are simultaneous and it does not matter which is called the action and which is called reaction; both forces are part of a single interaction, and neither force exists without the other.

The reaction of a rocket is an application of the third law of motion. Various fuels are burned in the engine, producing hot gases.

The hot gases push against the inside tube of the rocket and escape out the bottom of the tube. As the gases move downward, the rocket moves in the opposite direction.
