1 ”Mix and Match” Hexagons

This pattern is for personal use only.

This pattern includes five hexagons and one half hexagon which all fit together as they

have the same number of stitches on the last row. You can use these hexagons to crochet

a blanket, pillow, bag or whatever you can put together out of hexagons. Select some

favorites or use all of them in a project.

Abbreviations: (UK terms)

St - stitch

Ch - chain

Ss – slip stitch

BPss – back post slip stitch *

Dc – double crochet

BPdc – back post double crochet *

Tr – treble

BPtr – back post treble *

FPtr – front post treble *

Dtr – double treble

Pop – popcorn *

Start pop – starting popcorn: crochet {1 standing tr * + 3tr} in the given stitch, drop the

loop from your hook and then insert your hook in the first standing tr you made. Grab the

dropped loop and pull it through the stitch.

Sp(s) – space(s) (e.g. ch-1 sp)

Inv join – invisible join * (See instructions below)

Stitches marked with a * are described on my blog, blog.

Invisible join:

Pull out the loop and use a darning needle. Insert the needle through both loops of the

first stitch after the starting chains made in the beginning of the row. Then insert the

needle through the back loop of the last stitch of the row. Pull carefully and fasten the end

as usual.

Tips:

● Stitches between [ ] are repeated as many times as indicated after the square

brackets.

● Stitches between { } are made in the same stitch or chain space.

● Stitches between | | shows how many stitches you should have after completing

the row.

• I recommend to use invisible join (see description on previous page).

Yarn and colors:

For my black hexagons on the first page I used the yarn

Scheepjes Cahlista in the following colors:

110 (Jet Black), 114 (Shocking Pink), 249 (Saffron), 386

(Peach), 389 (Apple Green), 390 (Poppy Rose) and 397

(Cyan).

For my hexagons in the examples in this pattern I used the yarn Scheepjes Catona in the

following colors:

Color 1: 105 (Bridal White), color 2: 385 (Crystalline), color 3: 391 (Deep Ocean Green)

and color 4: 408 (Old Rose).

Hexagon 1:

Start:

The whole hexagon 1 is made with color 4.

Ch4, ss in the first ch to make a ch-ring.

Row 1:

Ch2 (counts as 1 tr).

11tr in the ch-ring.

Ss in the second ch in the beginning of the row.

|12 tr|

Row 2:

Ch4 (counts as 1 tr + ch 2), 1tr in the same tr, 1tr in next

tr.

[{1tr + ch2 + 1tr} in next tr, 1tr in next tr] 5 times.


|18 tr and 6 ch-2 sps|

Row 3:

Ss in next ch-2 sp, ch4 (counts as 1 tr + ch 2), 1tr in the

same ch-2 sp, 1tr in next 3 tr.

[{1tr + ch2 + 1tr} in next ch-2 sp, 1tr in next 3 tr]

5 times.



Row 4:

Ss in next ch-2 sp, ch3 (counts as 1dc + ch 2), 1dc in the

same ch-2 sp, 1dc in next 5 tr.

[{1dc + ch2 + 1dc} in next ch-2 sp, 1dc in next 5 tr]

5 times.

Fasten with inv join or a ss in the first ch in the beginning

of the row. Cut yarn and fasten ends.

Hexagon 2:

Start: (color 1)


Do not cut yarn.

Row 1: (color 1)



Fasten with inv join or a ss in the second ch in the

beginning of the row, cut yarn.

|12 tr|

Row 2: (color 2)

Join your new color with a BPss in any tr in row 1,

ch2 (counts as 1dc + ch 1).

[BPdc in next tr, ch1] 11 times.

Ss in the first ch in the beginning of the row, do not cut

yarn.

Row 3: (color 2)

Ss in next ch-1 sp, ch2 (counts as 1 tr), 4tr in the same ch-1 sp, ch1, 1dc in the tr in

row 1 just below next dc, 1dc in next tr in row 1.

[Ch1, skip ch-1 sp, 5tr in next ch-1 sp, ch1, 1dc in next 2 tr in row 1] 5 times.

Ch1, skip ch-1 sp. Fasten with inv join or a ss in the second ch in the beginning of the

row, cut yarn.

|30 tr, 12 dc and 12 ch-1 sps|

Row 4: (color 4)

Join your new color with a ss in any of the skipped ch-1 sps in row 2.

Ch4 (counts as 1 tr + ch 2), 1tr in the same ch-1 sp, skip 1 tr, 1BPdc in next 3 tr.

[{1tr + ch2 + 1tr} in next skipped ch-1 sp in row 2, skip 1 tr, 1BPdc in next 3 tr]

5 times.

Ss in the second ch in the beginning of the row, do not cut yarn.


Row 5: (color 4)

Ch1, ss in the first ch in the beginning of the row, cut

yarn.


Row 4: (color 3)

Join your new color with a BPss in the second tr in any group with 5 tr in row 3.

Ch2 (counts as 1 tr), 1BPtr in next 3 tr, ch2, 1dc in the tr in row 1 just below next dc,

Ch2.

[1BPtr in next 5 tr, ch2, skip 1 tr in row 1, 1dc in next tr in row 1, ch2] 5 times.

1BPtr in next tr, fasten with inv join or a ss in the second ch in the beginning of the row,

cut yarn.

|30 BPtr, 6 dc and 12 ch-2 sps|

Row 5: (color 4)

Join your new color with a ss in any dc in Row 3, ch3 (counts as 1 dtr), 1BPtr in next

5 tr.

[1dtr in next dc in row 3, 1BPtr in next 5 tr] 5 times.

Ss in the third ch in the beginning of the row, do not cut yarn.

|30 tr and 6 dtr|

Row 6: (color 4)

Ch1 (counts as 1 dc), 1dc in next 2 tr, {1dc + ch2 + 1dc}

in next tr.

[1dc in next 5 st, {1dc + ch2 +1dc} in next tr] 5 times.

1dc in next 2 tr, fasten with inv join or a ss in the first ch

in the beginning of the row. Cut yarn and fasten ends.

Hexagon 4:

Row 1: (color 2)

Ch2, 5dc in the second ch from your hook (skipped ch

counts as 1 dc).

Fasten with inv join or a ss in the first ch in the beginning

of the row, cut yarn.

|6 dc|

Row 2: (color 3)

Start pop – starting popcorn: crochet {1 standing tr + 3tr}

in the given stitch, drop the loop from your hook and then

insert your hook in the first standing tr you made. Grab

the dropped loop and pull it through the stitch.

Start pop in any dc in row 1, ch2.

[Pop in next dc, ch2] 5 times.

Fasten with inv join or a ss in the first pop in the beginning of the row, cut yarn.

|6 pop and 6 ch-2 sps|

Row 3: (color 4)

Join your new color with a ss in any ch-2 sp in row 2, ch3 (counts as 1 tr + ch 1), 2tr in

the same ch-2 sp, 1FPtr in next pop.

[{2tr + ch1 + 2tr} in next ch-2 sp, 1FPtr in next pop] 5 times.

1tr in next ch-2 sp, ss in the second ch in the beginning of the row, do not cut yarn.

stands alone in a ch-1 sp, ch3 (counts as 1 dc and ch 2),

1dc in the same tr, 1BPdc in next 3 tr.

Start:

The whole ”half hexagon” is made with color 4.

6tr in the ch-ring, turn.

|7 tr|

Row 2:

Ch3 (counts as 1 tr), 1tr in the same tr.

[1tr in next tr, {1tr + ch2 + 1tr} in next tr] 2 times.

1tr in next tr, 2tr in the third ch in the beginning of

previous row, turn.

Row 3:

Ch3 (counts as 1 tr), 1tr in the same tr.

[1tr in next 3 tr, {1tr + ch2 + 1tr} in next ch-2 sp]

2 times.

1tr in next 3 tr, 2tr in the third ch in the beginning of

Row 4:

Ch1 (counts as 1 dc), 1dc in the same tr.
