B.Ed First year students visited the NGO ‘MUSKAAN’ on April 5th,2017.

School counselor from Amity International School Saket addressed the B.Ed students on “ Guidance and Counseling to

school students” on April 6th,2017.

Farewell to B.Ed IInd year was given by the first year students on April 8th,2017.

Campus placement interviews for the second year students began in the month of April.

On April 8th,2017 B.Ed first year students bid farewell to the outgoing

students of B.Ed second year with great enthusiasm. Principal cum Director

Prof. Ranjana Bhatia gave her blessings to the students and also wished them

good luck for future. The students of first year presented a group dance, a

solo performance and also played lot many games with the second year

students. Titles related to their personality were also given to every outgoing

student. Overall, it was a day full of emotions—Joy, Laughter and tears all at

the same time.

HOW WE CELEBRATE FESTIVALS AT THE INSTITUTE

Lohri Celebrations Amity Institute of Education celebrated Lohri with gaiety, enthusiasm

and exuberant fervour. The celebration began with a special assembly

wherein everyone was enlightened about the festival.

Hindus regard this festival as the beginning of a new auspicious cycle.

It is a festival of new beginnings, new resolutions and new

commitments. It is believed that on this day the Sun starts its

northward journey (Uttarayan); marking the end of winter and

beginning of new spring and harvest season. After this day the days

start getting longer and the nights start getting shorter. The festival is

celebrated with great zeal in every state of India. Every state calls the

festival with a different name and celebrates it in its own unique way.

People in North India called it Lohri. They light a bonfire at night,

and sing and dance around it. People in the West fly kites on this day

and have kite flying competitions. People in the South call it Pongal.

They make sweet and savory rice dishes and kids chew on sugarcane.

People all over India eat sweets made of sesame seeds and jaggery on

this day.

Keeping in with the spirit of the festival, dances and melodious performances were presented by the students of first and

second year. They were cheered and appreciated by the teachers and students alike. The bonding between college fac-

ulty and students really added warmth to the winter chill.

On this occasion, the principal of the institute, Dr. Ranjana Bhatia, on special request of the students lit the sacred bon-

fire. All the students were overjoyed and sang the song “Sunder Mundreiye”. The mood on the campus was upbeat and

the festive spirit of Lohri had everyone in its grip. Everyone had a gala time dancing around the holy fire and feasting on

the traditional savories.

Republic Day Celebrations

January 26th is celebrated as the Republic Day in India and many programmes

are held throughout the country to mark this historic day by its citizens.

Republic day celebration is an important national event in India, especially for

the students in the schools, colleges and other educational institutions.

The Amity family too, always makes it a point to celebrate the occasion with

great pomp and show. The principal of Amity Institute of Education,

Dr. Ranjana Bhatia addressed the occasion, stating that the students should be

brave and face all the challenges that come their way with courage. She

stressed on the motto "Students of today are the citizens of tomorrow."

The students of AIE took pride in glorifying their nation and celebrated the

spirit of unity in diversity. To commemorate this occasion, the students

organized a cultural programme. The programme included a medley of patriotic songs, a skit signifying the ideals of

preamble, a street play throwing light on the life of the soldiers of Indian Army and the plight of their families and lastly

a tribute to the significance of Republic Day.

AIE echoed with patriotic fervour as the students brought the stage alive with their passion and love for their mother-

land. Such national events are recognized as important for the welfare of the country and especially for its present

generation to realize that the future of their country is in their very own hands. Students are capable of modifying the

mindset of the society with their constructive approach and occasions like Republic Day serve as an initiative to work

for the same. The programme then ended with all students pledging to serve as responsible citizens of their country and

working towards its betterment.

- Editorial Board

A TOEFL workshop was conducted for B.Ed first year students on 25th

February 2017, by Educational Testing Services (ETS). TOEFL stands for

Test of English Language as a Foreign Language, an exam which tests

basic English proficiency and is accepted through 137 countries, 9000

colleges as a criteria for college education. Students take coaching classes

for TOEFL but our instructor Ms. Rupa Bhattacharya juxtaposed it

effectively with classroom language classes.

She explained to 14 students (who had cleared the first round of entrance

test in November 2016) the importance of language classes and how we as

both Paper takers (student) and Raters (Examiner) can score/ help others

score better in TOEFL. She informed us about various techniques of

gauging a child’s previous knowledge and effectively combining it to serve

teaching-learning objectives better. We were informed about Gallery Walks

which involves full use of classroom space and follows proper sequencing

of Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing (LSRW) skills of English language, which is a technique of enhancing class partici-

pation through groups and increasing ideas for a particular skill.

A workshop kit was provided for a holistic approach to English language which has many activities for Student-Teacher

engagement as well as for knowledge acquisition. One of the most important things that we were taught was the idea of rating

the content of the paper as opposed to the usual strategy of teachers checking the content for things the child would have

written/omitted. A realistic approach to English learning was stressed upon. Our own capabilities of judging speaking and

writing skill were checked according to TOEFL standards. We were then given a certificate of recognition from ETS for

attending the workshop and for learning nuances of English pedagogy the TOEFL way!

ENGLISH PEDAGOGY FLIES HIGH, THE TOEFL WAY!

Preeti Gambhir and Shikha Ahuja (B.Ed IInd year students )were honoured by Hon’ble Union

minister (MHRD) Mr. Prakash Javadekar and Hon’ble Union Minister of Electronics and

Information & Technlogy, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad during National Convention at Vigyan

Bhawan, Delhi for their initiatives of disseminating awareness amongst people about digital

economy and cashless modes of transactions.

The nascent seeds of the Campaign -VISAKA may be traced to Honorable Prime Minister

Shri. Narender Modi’s address to the nation in his Mann ki Baat (broadcast on 27thNovember

2016) where he had urged the youth of India to create digital payments awareness among

masses. Taking cue from it,, Mr. Prakash Javadekar decided to launch National Digital

Financial Literacy Campaign involving the higher education institutions of India .Thus, VISAKA

(Vittya Saksharta Abhiyaan) was launched with the aim to actively engage the youth and

students of the higher education institutions of India to motivate and encourage all payers and

payee, to use digitally enabled cashless economic system for transfer of funds. The campaign

commenced on December 12, 2016 and concluded on February 12, 2017.

The National Convention was, thus, organized as the culmination of the campaign and to

facilitate and acknowledge the commendable work done by student volunteers from all over

India and to motivate the future volunteers. The student volunteers team from Amity Institute of

Education (AIE), New Delhi was led by Prof. Ranjana Bhatia- Principal and faculty-

Dr. Sanjna Vij and was spearheaded by Preeti Gambhir and Shikha Ahuja. Whatsapp Group was

created and the information on how to become volunteers for this campaign was shared with the help of step by step snapshots
