What a Search Engine is?
Search engines are programs that search information for specific keywords and returns a list of the documents or websites where the keyword were found.
A web search engine is the key to search specific information on World Wide Web.
How to search engine works?
Search engines have two major functions - crawling & building an index, and providing answers by calculating relevancy & serving results.
Web search engines work by storing information about many web pages. These pages are retrieved by a Web crawler (known as a spider) - an automated Web browser which follows every link on the site. Data about web pages are stored in an indexed database for use in later queries. A query can be a single word.
What is Crawling and Indexing?
Crawling: Crawling is the process by which Googlebot discovers new and updated pages to be added to the Google index.
Indexing:Googlebot processes each of the pages it crawls in order to compile a massive index of all the words it sees and their location on each page.
What is SEM (Search Engine Marketing)?
Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is a form of internet marketing that involves the promotion of websites by increasing their visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs) through optimization (both on-page and off-page) as well as through advertising methods (paid placements and contextual advertising) like PPC.
The largest SEM vendors of PPC are Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing and Microsoft adCenter.
