The Shooting Sports Special
Interest Group had a great time
at the range on Saturday, August
11th. Two of our newest members,
Rick Gray and Bill Oberchain,
pictured here, joined group leader
Ira Cochran for some target
practice. Bill had not handled a
firearm for quite some time but
by his target sheet he has not lost
his touch. If you would like to join Ira and other club members on their next
outing on Saturday, September 8th to the Southest Regional Shooting Park,
email [email protected] for more information and to sign up.
Shooting Sports Group Is On Target
On August 24th, the AmigOs Couples Group
attended their second summer outdoor concert
at Posada Java. The Manhattan Dolls entertained
everyone with their renditions of hit songs from
the 50’s and 60’s.
On September 29th, you and your wife or
significant other are invited to join the group for
a Trivia Night Party: Socialize over some wine,
beer, and appetizers as teams are formed for a
fun and entertaining evening.
Make your reservations now for the October 20th
group event. Celebrate Oktoberfest in a perfect
outdoor setting with the Bavarian Brass Band
and their energetic polkas, marches, folksongs,
and waltzes. Ticket price is $24 and includes a full
German themed meal and 2 drinks of authentic
German beer, wine, or soft drinks. Seats are limited.

President’s MessagePresident’s Message
Dear Friends,
For most of my life autumn meant
not just the end of fun summer
days and nights but the start of
colder days, less activity, and the
soon to come dreary winter. But
that is no longer the case. In Green
Valley, Arizona, it means days of
sunshine and perfect temperatures.
It means more activities, not less. The snowbirds return
and bring a busyness to our community. Even though our
club is active all year, the fall and winter bring new life to
some of our interest groups that were on hiatus during
the hot summer.
If you have been sitting on the sidelines of the AmigOs
Club, now is the time to get out onto to the field. Take
another look at the interest groups and monthly activities
that we have to offer. This fall we have three new groups
starting up: The Hiking Group, The Jack-of-All-Trades,
Master of Fun Group, and the Texas Hold’em Group.
Interested in something else? Help start a new group as
I am sure there are others who share the same interest.
Life is too short - so enjoy every minute of it!
As always, if you have any questions, club suggestions, or
just want to make a comment, please email me at:
[email protected] or speak to me in person at
any meeting.
Yours in Service and Dedication,
ROB PETRILLO

I highly recommend this book
that I read in another book club
which I belong to: Skunk Works:
A Personal Memoir of My Years at
Lockheed by Ben Rich and Leo
Janos- 370 pages. Who would
have thought these secret planes
were being developed as we
were growing up? The book in-
cludes the blackbird that fol-
lowed the U2 and the stealth
fighters. It is filled with personal
narratives and high adventure.
AMIGOS SHIRTSWe are once again taking orders for AmigOs
Club shirts. If you would like to purchase one,
you may do so at the next Meet and Greet or

Special Interest GroupsSpecial Interest GroupsOne of the best things about the AmigOs Men’s Club are the unlimited number of special interest groups that we can have.
If you have a hobby, interest, or skill that at least one other member shares with you then you can start a group. Each group
can decide when to meet, how often to meet, and what to do within the group. One person is chosen as the chair and to-
gether, hopefully will expand the size of the group. Mike Malenfant has compiled the interests of our current members into
a spreadsheet. If you wish to start a group with others who share a similar interest, feel free to call or e-mail each other and
get something started. Once you have your group, contact the club’s Special Interest Committee Chair at
[email protected] to make it official.
Breakfast GroupThe AmigOs’ monthly
breakfast group meets at
9am on the first Saturday
of every month at the
Grill on the Green. Join a
large and friendly bunch of guys for good food and good
conversation. A great opportunity to meet and get to know
other members in a relaxing atmosphere. For more infor-
mation contact Manny Rivers at [email protected]

for some events,
their wives) are invited to attend our monthly day trips.

Part Three: Pool Exercise
Arthritis and joint pain can make working out the lastthing seniors want to do. However, water exercisesdone at least three times a week can relieve arthritisand joint pain while increasing bone density andmuscle mass. Here are 5 water exercises that you cantry to start feeling better today!
Staying active as a senior can be tough. Achy joints that
don’t work as well as they used to make it hard to go for a
walk or incorporate strength exercises into a daily routine.
However, exercising in the water is great for reducing
arthritis and other joint pain because it puts less stress on
the joints and the buoyancy of the water helps reduce the
pressure on joints. Water also acts as a form of resistance,
so strength exercises can be performed in the water without
heavy weights. Performing strength exercises and using
resistance will increase flexibility and balance and decrease
bone and muscle loss.
We suggest giving the following exercises a try, but keep
these safety tips in mind: be aware of your limits, never do
water aerobics alone (it’s not as fun, anyway), and speak
with your doctor about how your medications and overall
fitness mesh with water aerobics.
1. AQUA JOGGING
Aqua jogging is the perfect aerobic, low-impact exercise to
get the heart pumping and blood flowing throughout the
body. Aqua jogging can be as simple as jogging through the
water from one side of the pool to the other. This exercise
can also be simplified to walking back and forth in the pool
or jogging or marching in place. Aqua jogging is designed
to get the heart rate up and keep it up, so whichever modifi-
cation you choose, be sure it’s at least a little challenging.
2. FLUTTER KICKING
Flutter kicking is another great low-impact cardio exercise.
This exercise can be performed with or without a kick-
board. With a kickboard, hold it out in front of you and
flutter kick your legs to propel you back and forth across
the pool. You can also flutter kick without a kickboard if
one is not available. Perform a front float with your head
above water while holding onto the side of the pool and
flutter kick your legs. Whichever way you do it, kick at a
steady tempo that doesn’t tire you too quickly but also gets
the heart pumping.
3. LEG LIFTS
Using the resistance of the water, leg lifts work all of the
muscles in the legs. For this exercise, stand in the pool and
lift one leg out to the side and back down. Repeat until your
leg feels tired, then switch legs and perform the exercise on
the other leg. Not only does this exercise work the legs, it
also improves balance and strengthens your core.
4. STANDING WATER PUSH-UPS
Water push-ups are a great way to build arm, chest, and
shoulder strength without putting too much pressure on the
joints. Stand along the side of the pool and place your
hands a little wider than shoulder-width apart on the gutter
or edge of the pool. Bend your arms and lean in toward the
wall, then push yourself back out. Repeat this exercise
slowly and until your arms feel tired. Be careful not to push
it too hard until you know your limits.
5. ARM CURLS
For this exercise, stand in the middle of the pool with water
weights. Water weights don’t have to be used, but they do
offer extra resistance. Hold the weights in front of you,
arms in front with palms facing out. Curl the weights up
then back down and repeat until fatigued. This exercise can
also be done with palms facing toward you instead of away
with the same curling motion.

August 2018 Board Meeting Minutes August 2018 Board Meeting Minutes
- 7 -
August 30, 2018 – Rob Petrillo’s Home
Attendance: Larry Amundson, Rob Petrillo, Ira Cochran,
Bob Delilio, Sid Shapiro, Fred Monique
Absent: Mike Malenfant, Tom Krueger
Time: 4:30-m – 5:38pm
The minutes of the July 2018 Board Meeting were ap-
proved as previously submitted.
Finance: Ira reported that our July ending balance was
$759.64 with $137.02 in revenues and $43.55 in expenses
for an ending monthly balance of $853.11.
Membership Report: Fred reported that our current
membership stands at 87 total paid members. There were 6
new members who joined during the past month including:
Graham Kidde, Roy Benson, Terry Shelly, David Winden,
Roger Henry, and Gary Kidd.
Additionally, he reported that the open rate for all messages
sent out in our new Mailchimp application was 61.1%.
Old Business:
- For the record, the July Board Meeting Minutes were
approved electronically on 7/27/2018
- Also, for the record Chuck McCarty recently resigned
from the AmigOs Board and a majority of the Board members
voted and approved Bob Delelio as a replacement Member-
at-Large to fill the remaining portion of Chuck’s term after
the August 18th Meet & Greet meeting.
- A discussion was undertaken concerning the Member
Interest List passed out at the last Meet & Greet meeting.
Only 2 minor comments were received concerning wording
of individual items and no one requested contact with others
over individual interest items.
New Business:
- Rob received a request from Chuck McCarty concerning
establishment of a Texas Hold’em Interest Group, which
was approved by the Board. Rob will request that Chuck
provide an article for the upcoming newsletter to kick the
group off.
- A discussion ensued concerning updating Club Commit-
tees currently highlighted in our By-Laws and it was agreed
to include this issue in the overall review of existing By-
Laws in November to formalize at our next Annual meet-
ing. One committee specifically discussed was creating an
Ambassadors committee to work more closely with inter-
ested parties before becoming paid members.
- Sid requested a policy in the eventuality that an interested
party was financial unable to afford our annual dues. The
Board decide to address this specific issue at the time it
arises rather than creating a current policy.
- Bob indicated that currently there were only 3 individuals
interested in the upcoming Pima Air & Space Museum trip,
so he will open to spouses and friends of members to in-
crease attendance. Rob will include this in next Newsletter.
- Rob reported that Dave Fink has obtained the 8 required
individuals for the October Horseback Riding event.
- Rob will obtain the stated GVR policy wording concerning
refraining from political, religious, and sexual orientation
discussions at meetings and events.
- Ira requested clarification on collecting money at the next
shooting event to cover prize money to make the event
competitive. The Board agreed as long as involvement of
individuals was voluntary.
Other Business:
There being no other items to discuss, the meeting was
adjourned at 5:38 pm. The next Board meeting has been
moved to the 3rd Thursday of September and will begin
again ay 4:30pm at Rob’s home.
