Gatorade G Series Pro Endurance Formula is the exclusive and official sports drink of the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon 2012. Gatorade G Series Pro Endurance Formula (Lemon-Lime flavor) is served at each aid station along the course. Gatorade G Series Pro Endurance Formula is a specialized sports drink that contains ap-proximately twice the amount of sodium (200 mg per 8 ounces) of Gatorade Thirst Quencher, along with chloride, potassium, magne-sium and calcium to help sustain hydration by more fully replacing what is lost in sweat. Gatorade G Series Pro Endurance formula also contains a 6% carbohydrate solution (14 grams per 8 ounces), just like Gatorade Thirst Quencher, which research shows is optimal to help speed fluid back into the body and fuel working muscles. For more information about Gatorade G Series Pro Endurance Formula, please visit www.gatorade.com/performance.

Race Time Limit: All event routes will be opened to regular vehicular traffic at 2:15pm. This allows for a seven-hour Marathon Walk finish and a six-hour Marathon Run finish. There will be limited on-course aid stations, Course Marshals and police support after the course closes. Participants may continue along the course after the official closure by obeying all standard traffic control devices. Finish Line staff and essential services will remain until every athlete has completed the event. Additionally, all marathon participants still on the I-90 floating bridge after 10:30am will be bussed to the end of the bridge and allowed to finish the marathon. (This allows for a 25 min/mile pace for walkers and an 18 min/mile pace for runners.)

Wheelchair Competition: Wheelchair athletes are welcome to compete in the Marathon and Half Marathon races. Both courses are fully paved and provide wheelchair athletes the opportunity for unbridled competition. The lead wheelchairs will have an escort throughout the race. Competitors must wear hard shell helmets and wheelchairs must be adequately equipped for safety. Wheelchair competitors should especially note the risks regarding the nature of the course such as bollards and the possibility of other traffic on the course.

Medical Assistance: Provided by our Official Medical Coverage Sponsor, UW Medicine. If medical assistance is required on the race course, contact one of the orange-capped radio operators, who can call for emergency assistance or van transportation if required. If you drop out, please notify an aid station attendant, radio operator or anyone inside the information booth in the Victory Recovery Area so the information can be relayed to the event support staff.

Risks: As with most sports, participating in a marathon or half mara-thon involves a number of inherent risks, including but not limited to tripping and falling, contact with other participants or specta-tors and the effects of weather, traffic and road conditions. Because the courses are run on roads, streets and trails, there are posts and possible potholes. Additionally, there may be other foot and bicycle traffic on the course. All participants need to be prepared to avoid obstacles and traffic. In submitting your entry, you are acknowledg-ing your awareness and assumption of all risks associated with your participation. You are certifying that you are medically and physi-cally fit to safely compete in this event.

Safety Rules: The Seattle Marathon Association is a member of the Road Runners Club of America and as such is required through its membership insurance to exclude entrants with bicycles, skate-boards, baby joggers or strollers, roller skates, roller blades or animals. iPods may be used, but are not encouraged by RRCA or the Seattle Marathon Association. For safety reasons, if a course official asks you to remove your listening device, please do so. Entrants choosing to violate these safety conditions pose a danger to all participants. Persons found in violation of these safety rules will be disqualified and removed from the course.

ThE FiniSh LinE

Victory Recovery Area: Medical attention, hot soup and other re-freshments will be available in the Victory Recovery Area, located in the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall. There will be designated chang-ing areas for men and women as well as a live band. Family and friends are invited to relax and celebrate with their finishers in the family reunion area in the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall.

Massage, Acupuncture and Chiropracty: The Washington Sports Massage Team (WSMT), Bastyr University and Washington State Chi-ropractic Association (WSCA) will be located in the Victory Recovery Area (Seattle Center Exhibition Hall). WSMT will provide a 15-minute professional sports massage to finishers for a $18 fee. Massages can be purchased on site or in advance using the entry form. Bastyr University will be providing acupuncture to finishers free of charge. WCSA will be assisting UW Medical Center at the finish line as well as providing chiropractic care in the Victory Recovery Area.

Photographs: brightroom is the Official Photographer and Videog-rapher of the 2012 Seattle Marathon Family of Events. All marathon and half marathon run and walk finishers will be photographed and recorded on video. A photo proof will be emailed to each finisher within one week of the event. Enlargements can be ordered through brightroom. For more information, call 800.783.2762, 8:30am to 5:30pm (EST) Monday through Friday, or visit them on the web at www.brightroom.com.

Awards: Overall awards will be presented to the top three men and women finishers in both the Marathon and Half Marathon events. Awards will be presented to the top ten men and women in each age division in both the Marathon and Half Marathon as follows: 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85 and over. Overall Masters Division awards will be awarded to the fastest male and female finisher in both events. Overall Wheelchair Division awards will be presented to the fastest male and female wheelchair finishers. Awards will be given for first, second and third place men's and women's finishes for active military personnel.

Please note that the Marathon Walk and Half Marathon Walk will be timed but are not intended to be race walking competitions as set forth by the USATF. No awards will be presented for these events.

Refer to the Schedule of Events on page 2 for the times of each award ceremony. The awards ceremony will be located in the Victory Recovery Area (Seattle Center Exhibition Hall). Awards will be avail-able for pick-up in the Victory Recovery Area until 5:30pm. Awards not picked up on race day will be mailed.

How about taking a few more ibuprofen, or better yet maybe my doctor will give me some more long acting anti-inflammatory medications to prevent my suffering after the big race. Be careful what you ask for, it may cause more harm than good.

RisksAs with most sports, running a road race involves a number of inher-ent risks, including but not limited to tripping and falling, contact with other participants or spectators, the effects of weather, traffic and road conditions. Because the race is run on roads, streets and trails, there are posts and possible potholes along the course. Ad-ditionally, there may be other foot and bicycle traffic on the course. All participants need to be prepared to avoid obstacles and traffic. In submitting your entry, you are acknowledging your awareness and assumption of all risks associated with your participation. You are certifying that you are medically and physically fit to compete in this event safely.

KIDS MARATHON INFORMATIONSaturday, November 24, 2012 at 10amSeattle Center Memorial Stadium / $20

The Seattle Children's Kids Marathon promotes fitness, reading and good deeds for kids in kindergarten through eighth grade. Kids complete a full 26.2 mile marathon at a rate that is fun and safe for their growing bodies — one mile at a time. Kids are also encouraged to read 13 books and perform 13 “Do Rights.” On Race Day, the kids gather at Seattle Center to complete the final 1.2 miles together in a celebratory event that includes kids-style medals, finisher certificates, space blankets, t-shirts, goody bags, food and lots of fun!

The CourSeon race Day: Kids run the last 1.2 miles of their “marathon” together starting at 5th and Harrison, next to the Experience Music Project. They run around the Seattle Center, past the Space Needle and down Mercer Street, finishing their marathon in Memorial Stadium. See the course map at www.seattlemarathon.org for details.

Leading up to race Day: Kids run or walk the first 25 miles of their “marathon” one mile (or ½ mile) at a time on a safe, secure route designated by parents, coaches or teachers. The program should take 6-8 weeks to complete depending on the fitness level of your child. A less active child may need to start earlier to complete the program. As they are completing their miles, kids also complete their reading and do-rights (good deeds). For suggested books and do-right ideas, visit the Seattle Children's Kids Marathon pages at www.seattlemarathon.org.

Marathoners can keep track of their progress with the trackers provided on the website. Register by November 13th and you will receive via mail, the trackers, instructions, tokens and award certificates to be given to your child as he/she completes the miles, books and do-rights. If your child registers with a school group, these materials will be given to the school leader for distribution.

To download and print trackers or do-right and reading lists, and for training tips visit the Kids Marathon page at www.seattlemarathon.org

raCe Day INfoBib Numbers: Participants must have and wear (pinned to the front) their official Bib Number. Kids running with groups may get their bibs from their group leaders. Confirm your group's procedure with your group leader. Parents and group leaders may pick up bibs at the fol-lowing times and locations:

Friday, November 23rd, 2012 EXPO, The Westin Seattle, Downtown Seattle11am-8pm (see page 3 for more info on EXPO)

Saturday, November 24th, 2012 Seattle Kids Marathon Staging areaCheck-in 7:30-9:30am North Bleachers, Memorial Stadium, Seattle Center

PLeaSe NoTe: One parent/coach may run with each child, but it is not mandatory. Should you choose to run, you must wear a Bib Number. For safety, no one is allowed on the course without a bib. Each child may have only one adult accompanying them. Every child who enters the event will be given two identical bibs — one for the child and one for an accompanying adult. For lost parent/child reasons, both the child and adult bibs will contain the child's information. Young children in strollers will also need to be entered into the event and wearing a bib number to be on the course.
