The May meeting of the AAWT fea-
tured Rob Wallace and Roger Nass
on the topic of lathe and chain saw
safety. Rob began the meeting with
an overview of lathe safety talking
about general lathe safety princi-
ples. Inspecting the blank including
drying checks, insect damage, bark
inclusions ring shake and the like.
He talked about body position rela-
tive to the project and lathe speed.
Rob finished his part of the presen-
tation talking about personal pro-
tective equipment, types and usage.
Roger then took over and discussed
the safety aspects of chain saw use.
Finally Roger covered the safe use of
the band saw to shape the blank to
rough dimensions prior to mounting
it on the lathe.
Thanks again to Joan Nass for the
wonderful cookies she baked for the
meeting
Next meeting will be negative rake
scraping and sanding by Roger
Nass.
