The Grand Palace, including The Temple of the Emerald Buddha, is Thailand's most sacred site. Visitors must be properly dressed before entering the temple. Men must wear long pants and shirts with sleeves (no tank tops). If you're wearing sandals or flip-flops, you must wear socks (in other words, no bare feet). Women must be similarly modestly dressed. No see-through clothing, bare shoulders, etc. If you show up at the front gate improperly dressed, there is a booth near the entrance that can provide clothes to cover you up properly (a deposit is required). We recommend that women wear long capris, pants, or long skirts and shirts that cover their shoulders.

Local Transportation | Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok, is adjacent to the Saphan Taksin station of the BTS SkyTrain, Bangkok’s elevated metro system, with easy connections to the MRT subway.

Taxis | Taxis are easy to find and are inexpensive, though heavy traffic can make even short distances a long trip.

Taxis cost approximately one USD for the first two kilometers, then about 0.10 USD for each kilometer after that.

Public Transit/Mass Transit | In the center, the elevated Skytrain, the MRT subway, or river ferries are often the best options for transportation.

The Saphan Taksin BTS station is about a 1-minute walk from the exclusive Krungthep Wing of the hotel. Day passes are available for purchase at the station.

River Ferries | Ferry services are offered from the nearby Sathon pier by the Chao Phraya Express Company. Please call 02 222 5330 for more information.
