Dear Colonists, Because of the French and Indian War, Britain has increased our debt. Since we helped you to keep your land, We have decided that you owe us a debt of gratitude that must be repaid. In the coming months we will begin imposing new laws. As loyal citizens of British Colonies, we are asking you to find information about how these laws will effect you, and you will explain the events that led to your revolution. You will report your findings to us using three different media projects to create a “Digital Portfolio”. Use the resources provided to investigate the events. Pay attention to the actions of Nathanial Bacon, Thomas Paine and Patrick Henry. Complete the Web Quest Guide sheet before you begin!

To complete this part of the Investigation:
1. Use the resources page (page 4), to explain the following laws: the Sugar Act and The Stamp Act – explain the colonists reactions to the laws. Explain the events surrounding the Boston Tea Party – give details!
2. Use page 6 - Record two pieces of information and copy a picture from each of the websites – located beneath each of the historical figures that follow: Nathanial Bacon, Thomas Paine and Patrick Henry.
3. Explain why these events and people are important to the American Revolution.
4. Using Microsoft PowerPoint , create ONE Digital Scrapbook page for each event and each person. (Scrapbook would be minimum 7 pages – with title page)Your Scrapbook pages should include:
*1. A short description of the event
* 2. An image of the person and could have an image of the event
*3. An analysis of the information (why is it important)with supporting details.
*4. A cover page to introduce the scrapbook of your digital portfolio with an appropriate title, illustration, your name, and period.
When this is complete, please read the next letter for further directions on the next portion of the project. We know your report will be excellent.

The Revolution Begins
… Read this letter for your first mission
in our Revolution exploration!
Dear Patriots,
Following the French and Indian War, The British, believed we in the colonies owe them something for helping us defend our land.
However, we owe nothing to the British because we helped them in their fight with the French. Britain has decided to implement many new measures upon us. The most controversial of these are the new taxes that have been placed on us. Although we are used to being controlled by the British, these new measures are crossing the line.
May be we feel this way since we have been going through a time of increasing prosperity. The population in our colonies has been growing at a rapid pace, we have a say in how society and government are run, and maybe most importantly, the common people of society are starting to read literature that encourages new democratic ideals and also highlights the shortcomings of the British Parliament.
SO, an urgent matter has come before this legislative body. A revolution has started! In order to gain a better understanding of these events, we are requesting you complete the following missions. Your first mission awaits you. Using your resources, find Lexington and go there quickly! When you have completed that mission your services will be retained for two more missions. Good luck...

Your mission is as follows:
1. Using your resource page 11, find some background information on the battle at Lexington.
2. Use the Flip Cameras, to interview the participants to determine who fired first.
3. We expect a well- organized digital portfolio when you are done. Your portfolio must include:
*A. A short description of the battle at Lexington with the major events
* B. A scripted and edited video clip of you’re a participants account
of who fired first.
*C. An analysis of the information you collected from the people “interviewed” to determine who fired first with supporting details from research.
*D. A cover slide to introduce this section of your digital portfolio with an appropriate title and illustration.
This is a difficult mission. However, we know your report will be excellent. When finished, please read your next mission - Report from Saratoga.

Also, your uncle, William Burnet, a member of the Continental Congress, has requested you write him a personal account of what the war means to America. You may want to look here for his expectations. Thank you for your continued service to your country in this time of crisis. Your final mission awaits you. When you have successfully completed that mission your services to your country will be complete. Good luck...

*A. Write some background information on the conditions and events of this battle.
*B. Explain why you feel the colonies are justified in fighting this war for independence. As a colonist explain your feelings about your feelings on this battle in particular - and why you feel that way.
*C. Create or locate a map of the battlefield
*D. Create a photographic montage of what you are seeing on the battlefield.
