3 Causes of the American Revolution (U.S. FREE FROM ENGLAND)
1. Stamp Act– Britain fought a war
against the French in America
– To pay for the war, Parliament raised taxes called the Stamp Act – put a tax on paper goods
![Page 5: AMERICAN REVOLUTION](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070420/56815f64550346895dce5809/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Reason #1 continued• Colonists had no representatives in
Parliament so they said “No Taxation Without Representation”
• Boycotted (stopped buying) the paper goods & Parliament repealed (got rid of) the law

2. Boston Tea Party • Britain taxed tea• Colonists (dressed like
Native Americans) threw tea into the Boston harbor
• Troops occupied the city & closed the harbor (ppl couldn’t trade)

3. The Boston Massacre – Tension in the US
Colonies lead to the killing of five colonists by British soldiers on March 5, 1770..
– What type of reaction would you think the Colonists would give towards this action by the British?
• REVOLUTION!
