• Home School Contract– Sign Copy at Back-to-School Night– Take-Home Magnet
• View and Sign the Log Sheet
• Books from School Go Home NIGHTLY
• Return the Books DAILY
• 11 STEPS Every Week at Home– 2 STEPS Monday-Friday– 1 additional STEP over the Weekend
TheHome Reading Coach…
EACH 15 minutes of reading counts as 1 Step on a Reading Log.
2 Lines or 2 STEPS Should be Filled Out Nightly
If the child reads 6 books in 15 minutes, he only writes down ONE
title (favorite). Do this twice each night.
View the SKILLS CARDS and use to Assist with Home Coaching
Help ONLY when NEEDED!
The hope is that the home coach will enjoy the books and the time spent
with their reader.
Books should be easy!• When children read books
that are easy, they read ideas, not just words.
• Be sure the students are reading books in which they laugh at the funny parts and can read them with fluency and expression (like they would talk).
• The children should be relaxed and having fun while reading.
STEPS are counted the SAME WAY in 2nd and 3rd grade.
4 STEPS a DAY
2 AT SCHOOL = 30 MINUTES
2 AT HOME = 30 MINUTES
ALL students start the year with a BLUE FOLDER
Each night you will sign off on their Reading Log inside their folder, after
they have read 2 STEPS
When they reach 100 STEPSNEW FOLDER!!!
ALL STUDENTS WILL BE CELEBRATED EVERY TIME THEY
REACH 100 STEPS!
How many STEPS will your child achieve this
year?!?!
