COMMANDERS MESSAGE
NO ONE has stepped up to accept any of Post #83's OPEN
OFFICES. We still need to fill First Vice and 2nd
Vice Commander ,
Assistant Adjutant (to do minutes and communications), & Historian.
If you have some TIME and are willing, PLEASE give the Post a
call (541-689-5451). YOUR HELP IS NEEDED !
We had a problem develop at Breakfast on Sunday September
13th
. Flames shot out of the grill in the kitchen and had to be shut
down. We are working on the problem and hope to solve the problem
through repair or replacement. If you have never considered a
donation to the Post Patron Fund, this would be the perfect time so
there will be funds available for the solution.
MANY THANKS to ALL of you who helped the Post with the
9/11 Commemoration. The Hotrods for Heros (classic car display)
was a huge success. THANKS to those who brought their cars and
put them on display. KUDOS to those who helped with the food
sales – IT WAS A SELLOUT ! And a SPECIAL THANKS to MIKE
MICHELSON for doing the ceremony.
The number of individuals at the ceremony was the highest it has
been since the first year or two of the ceremony back in 2002 and
2003. The Boy Scouts were a great help in handing out candles and
helped collect them after the ceremony. It takes a lot of effort to pull
off a major event and we had it on September 11, 2015.
I hope each of you will bring friends, neighbors and relatives
to the Post, as guests, and encourage, those who are eligible, to join
one of the organizations in the Post family. We have members who
move on to The Post Eternal, who move to different communities or
who simply drop out of the American Legion and we need to try to KEEP our membership up.
I encourage you, if you are able, to attend Post events –
especially the Breakfasts and Dinners. Our volunteers put a LOT OF
TIME and ENERGY into these events and deserve your
support.
Finally, a SPECIAL THANK YOU to APRIL JUDY for
stepping up and agreeing to create the Newsletter. We hope to have it
out on time beginning with this edition,
For God and Country,
Steve Handran, Commander

Post Patron Fund
If you do not have the time, or have commitments, or just do not get out anymore, but would
be willing to help the Post financially, the Post Patron Fund Program may be perfect for you.
There are three levels of Post Patrons:
GOLD PATRON: Contribute $300/year (or $25 month) - Engraved Plaque
SILVER PATRON: Contribute $180/year (or $15/month) - Certificate of Appreciation
BRONZE PATRON: Contribute $120/year or ($10/month) - Recognition in Newsletter
All funds from this program will be earmarked and used only for maintenance, repairs, or
replacements, NOT for regular operating costs. No contribution is too small: the Post is grateful for
ALL contributions. If this program interests you, please drop off or mail your contribution to:
Post #83, Post Patron Fund Program
P.O. Box 40643
Eugene, OR 97404-0104
Since our last report to you Post #83 has received 3 contributions. CAB CLARK made a $300.00
contribution, GERALD CHADBURN made a $125.00 contribution and
LOUIS DeFRANK made a $100.00 contribution. MANY THANKS to all 3 of you. Post #83 greatly
appreciates your support.
For God and Country
Steve Handran, Commander
PLEASE NOTE ! PLEASE NOTE ! PLEASE NOTE !
POST #83 DUES TO INCREASE JAN. 1, 2016
At the September 10, 2015 the North Eugene/Santa Clara Post #83 E-Board voted to
increase Post #83 dues, on January 1, 2016, to $50.00 per year. The main reason for
this increase is that National is raising their dues in January 2016. The Department
of Oregon may also raise their dues. Currently, of the $40.00 dues that Post #83
collects, Post #83 gets to keep $13.00. It must send $27.00 on to The Department of
Oregon who in turn sends $13.50 on to National.
BE SURE to pay your 2016 dues by the end of December 2015 if you want to get the
$40.00 dues.

Geetings From the Auxiliary
President, Can"t believe summer is over and fall is here.
Time for us to get back to working our programs.
Helping Veteran's, our youth and the community
we live in.
The post families 9/11 event was an astonishing
achievement, WOW !! Thank You Thank You to
all the volunteers that made it happen. A job well
done, it was amazing!!!!! Congrat's to Sherry
Justus the lucky winner of the raffle basket for
school supplies $115.00 raised.Thank you to
everyone that bought tickets.
I reported last month that our Stand down was in
October, it on the 25th of September at the fair
grounds; so my apology for this error. The unit
will have two table of comfort items warm clothing
new socks and underwear for our Veterans in need,
again thank you to those who donated to this
event. Will give you a full accounting in next
newsletter.
Our annual non-perishable food barrel will be in
lounge starting on October the 11th and continue
through the Christmas party on the 18th of
December. Your donations help off-set the final
basket cost from the unit funds. We fill what is still
needed after we do inventory of goods. Our goal is
to meet or exceed last year of 26 baskets so our
veterans and their families have a brighter holiday.
There will be a planning meeting for the
Veterans Day Parade on the October 7th at 6 PM.
Do you have any idea's??Please come we need help
to make this happen so our post family can be
represented. Parade in Springfield on the 8th of
November.
You should all be receiving your 2016 dues
notices, please return them as soon as possible.
Check your calendars for upcoming events. We
have some wonderful meals planned. Come and
support our dedicated volunteers that work hard to
prepare them for you to enjoy.
Till next month, "Service not Self"
Karol Satterfield, President
Autumn Serenade
Once again, it's time for Autumn
Render her serenade,
She will bide late days of Summer
as she waits with in the glade
Mid-September you may see her
Peeking out among the tree's
Here and there a branch that's colored
with those lovely Autumn leaves
Then begins the oh's and the ah's
For such beauty can't be told
When the maples wear their gowns
That are spun in shades of Gold,
There are other maples too,
That put on the grandest hue,
They are neither pink nor red
A combination the two
Everybody knows the aspens wear
A coat that's pale and wan,
And it doesn't take much effort
To make sure their gowns are on.
Here and there a sprig of green
Will appear upon the stage,
For it is their lot to stay
While the serenade is played
Sturdy oaks will have their show
To bring the last ones down,
As the serenade is ending
And the leaves fall to the sod,
We can thank our great Creator
For this royal treat from God
Hi Everyone!!
I hope your summer was great, and Fall will
be too. A “Happy Birthday” to all our Post
family’s who were born in October!
