A group plans a peaceful protest, but people end up getting arrested.




Amendment 2

Congress passes a law that bans a specific kind of handgun from being sold.

The right to keep and bear arms

The Constitution does not specify that citizens have the right to own a specific type of gun or not. The Supreme Court can analyze if this is constitutional or not.




Amendment 3

The government cannot force you to house soldiers.

Limits conditions for quartering soldiers

The government could force citizens to house soldiers just like the British did in colonial times.




Amendment 4

No one can search your property or frisk you without reasonable suspicion.

Limits Search and Seizure regulations

The local police enter into a home and search it without reason or explanation.




Amendment 5

A woman is forced to take the stand at her own trial

Self- incrimination, double jeopardy

You cannotbe tried twicefor the same crime, and you do not have to incriminate yourself by going on trial to defend yourself.

In a criminal case, you have the right to a speedy trial and the right to a jury or a judge to hear the case.

Right to a speedy trial and trial by jury

A man is arrested for criminal activity and put into jail for two years before standing trial




Amendment 7

In a civil case, you have the right to a speedy trial and the right to have a jury or a judge to hear the case.

Right to a speedy civil (non criminal) trial

A man is suing his friend and the judge tells him he will go to trial in two years.




Amendment 8

Bail should not be unreasonable and the punishment should fit the crime.

Excessive bail, cruel punishment

A man is accused of stealing a bicycle. The judge sets his bail at 2 million dollars




Amendment 9

Someone may feel that there rights are being violated, but this right may not be explicitly listed in the Constitution. The person can take his or her case to the court and ask if there rights have been violated. -Slavery- Civil Rights

A woman argues in court concerning a right she has that is not listed in the Constitution and officials ignore her.
