Toncelli. Wind45_Tea Column. The pull-out table and
the utensils drawer
The pleasure of preparing food is increasingly accompanied by that of the tasting session. More and more of today’s new kitchens include specialised spaces with furnishings and appliances capable of satisfying the needs of a demanding group of gourmet consumers who wish to preserve and display their wine and cigar collections, as well as being able to sample coffee and other beverages in simple, elegant ways. Liebherr, Aeg and Subzero all offer wine cellars, while Miele and Neff have coffee-making machines designed to fit perfectly into the kitchen system (but are also available in free-standing versions). These are equipped with electronic programmes to control their various functions, and are designed to save on consumption. As for furnishings, some firms go much further than simply providing built-in wine stores and new-generation coffee machines, offering whole spaces and specialised blocks for special tasting sessions, or ones in which various exclusively manufactured appliances are installed together. These include the Brummel bar unit, the Progetto Immagina wine display and tasting area from Martini Mobili, the Vina Epicure wine and cigar unit from Arclinea and Toncelli’s “Tea Column”, for the rediscovery of a time-honoured tradition.

FOR DRINKING AND SMOKING
ARCLINEA_VINA EPICUREThe evolution of the Vina wine store, designed for optimum wine consumption at home or at the restaurant, has led on to Vina Epicure, a 240cm-wide unit in two parts: the refrigerated Vina store and the tall unit with Beverage Centre, fitted with a wine dispenser in smoked oak, and with a Humidor in which to keep cigars incorporated into the lower section fitted with shelves and pull-out boxes made of Spanish cedar. The Humidor creates the deal conditions for the preservation of the cigars, ensuring constant humidity and temperature levels (between 68% and 75%, and between +16 C and +20 C) respectively.

ambientecucina project
Franke’s new-generation FSBS 6001 NF IWD XS side-by-side refrigerator is a technological and design gem. The satin-finish stainless steel, the clean design of the dispenser with digital display and the two circular-section vertical handles, which blend harmoniously with the surface, make this fridge-freezer the perfect solution for anyone who requires plenty of storage space - thanks to its total gross capacity of 604 litres - and the top performance cold storage features and aesthetic appeal it offers. Ease of use and impeccable results are guaranteed by a series of innovative functions and programmes: the “no-frost” cooling system; automatic defrosting; the anti-bacterial cell; the water and ice dispenser, with electronic lighting and controls, providing chilled water and ice in cubed or crushed form; Fresh Holder, a generous compartment for delicate foods like fruit and vegetables, fitted with an electronic humidity control, in which the controlled temperature of 0° ensures that food stays fresher longer, as well as retaining its colour, fragrance and flavour. Like all Franke products, this model is also produced in accordance with the Franke Green Experience philosophy, which is
reflected not only in terms of attention to energy consumption, but also in the selection of materials used to make the appliances and the controls carried out at all stages in the design and manufacturing process, right through to the end products that roll off the assembly line. Franke complies with legislation on environmental protection, organises its production activities in an ecologically correct way and even runs environmental improvement programmes of its own. Gruppo Franke’s plants have been awarded ISO 14001 certification.

THE PROJECT
ambientecucina project
The design of this kitchen in a charming Turin penthouse was the winner of the “Kitchen Design Contest Sub-Zero and Wolf”. The competition, launched by the two big appliance brands, chose as first prize winner in Italy this kitchen space, created by the Turin-based Gallo showroom, Store SubZero and Wolf, in collaboration with Centro Cucine Siematic and Miele Center. Completely renovated by architect Claudio
1 The kitchen with the snack-table in the foreground; centre, the operating countertop-table. Left, tall units and SubZero and Wolf appliances. In the background the glazed wine store.
2 The kitchen seen from the washing area. The back wall has base units with additional sink and wall units.

THE PROJECT
ambientecucina project
Spagnotto, the apartment comprises a central block - which forms the kitchen proper - and an inner area enclosed by glass walls. Opposite this glazed volume, a second transparent block encloses another top-quality space: the open wine store, which features the same hi-tech look as the kitchen.Designed in this way, the two functional areas are quite separate from the living-room, but the transparency of the glass partitions allows visual interaction with the
entire living area as well as letting in light from the many windows and french doors. So the home has a “dual heart”, characterised by the exciting gleam of the glass and stainless steel finishes that produce a whole series of reflections and transparences. The kitchen - furnished with SieMatic’s SE 9009 ES/Programma 99ES model and equipped with SubZero and Wolf appliances - is crossed lengthways first by the snack bar that rests on the base units of
the shorter wall, and then by the table connected to the sink-cooktop surface; at this point the kitchen is closed off by sliding glass panels. Opposite is the wine store, a generous, special place in which to keep, preserve and taste wines and champagnes, all perfectly arranged on shelves stretching up to the ceiling. Like the kitchen, the cellar too is screened off by transparent partitions, an essential requirement in spaces where climate control matters so much.
3 The living-room and kitchen communicate visually through glass walls.
