Amber Long is a pioneering Australian fashion identity and a leading retail innovator.

Ms Long’s, Jean Brown luxury retail stores, delivered a world-class, multi-brand luxuryshopping experience and had a profound impact on the Australian fashion landscape.Identifying key luxury brands previously unavailable in Australia has been an integralpart of Ms Long’s vision and Jean Brown garnered international acclaim for its unequalled portfolio of brands, unique retail environments and commitment to the service levels of a bygone era.

An innovator by nature, Ms Long conceptualized and delivered Jean Brown, which was one of the world’s first gallery retail concepts, incorporating one of the largest and most significant collections of antique handbags (The Jean Brown Handbag Archive) into the architect designed retail space. By curating in-store, rotating exhibitions of handbags from the 17th century to today, Ms Long highlighted the significance of fashion to cultural history and, importantly the investment and enduring value of quality, luxury craftsmanship.

Balenciaga, Lanvin, Celine and Saint Laurent are among the long list of brands Ms Long works with and whom she introduced to Queensland, and in many cases Australia, for the first time. Entrusting their brand to her representation, many of the world’s leading fashion labels shared Ms Long’s tireless commitment to raise the Australian fashion retail benchmark to a higher international standard.

With a knack for trend forecasting and spotting new talent well ahead of other International retailers, Ms Long has worked with designers such as Charlotte Olympia, Nicholas Kirkwood, Camilla Skovgaard, Shourouk, Derek Lam, Thakoon and Proenza Schouler. For example, Ms Long was dressing her Australian clients in Thakoon years before Michelle Obama made the designer popular.

In line with her visionary goals, Ms Long ambitiously engaged the global online fashionaudience, blogging her buying trips and tales from as early as 2008 and constantly engaging with the ever-growing online market in novel ways. This included collaborative events with fashion bloggers: a first for any Australian retailer. Her blog developed into a successful online retail store, delivering curated collections to her clients in Australia and beyond from brands including Valentino, Saint Laurent and Chloe.

Imeldific! 20th Century Shoe Design 2009

Jean Brown, in conjunction with leading shoe blogger,Australian-based Matt Jordan (aka Imelda, Despotic Queen of Shoes), extended the concept of its antique handbag archive exhibitions to explore key moments in shoe design throughout the 20th Century.

Imelda (Jordan), globally recognised for providing a daily dose of satirical commentary about developments in the world of shoe design on his blog Imelda.com.au, entertained more than one hundred of Queensland’s fashion cognoscenti at Jean Brown’s Brisbane flagship store.

Imeldific! 20th Century Shoe Design

Jean Brown pushed beyond the blogger/retailer alignment by bringing the blogger inside from ‘window subject’ (in this case devoted to an Imelda/Matt Jordan shoe shrine) to authoritative

commentator on exhibition content.
