Public Speaking Over the past few weeks, all classes have been involved in presenting their speeches as part of a public speaking competition. Our students did an amazing job in writing and delivering their speeches in front of their classes. The stage finals are taking place this week where students will be selected to represent Ambarvale Public School at the Ultimo Public Speaking competition. Good luck and congratulations to all students who have been selected to represent their class. Zone and Regional Athletics In Week 8 a large number of Ambarvale Public School students represented our school at the Campbelltown Zone Athletics Carnival. Our students did an amazing job and displayed the Ambarvale All Star attitude. It was great to see so many students doing their best to compete against students from other schools in a range of events. Week 10 Congratulations to Seni Toroca, Milica Rudic and Xavier Mataipule who represented the Campbelltown Zone in the Regional Athletics Carnival last week. Jake Jones was also selected, however was too sick on the day. All students should be very proud of their achievements on being selected to represent the school and the Campbelltown Zone. Debating Our Stage 3 debating team had their first official debate last week against Thomas Acres PS. Kaiden Bantin, Grant Sunners, Amarah John and Ysabelle Ocampo represented our school with great pride. It was a very close debate and all students should be extremely proud of their efforts. Have a great holiday! I would like to wish everybody a happy and safe holiday period. I hope you all enjoy the break before we move into a busy Term 4. It is important to us here at Ambarvale PS that all of our students return to us after the holidays injury free. Please ensure that students are being supervised during the break and that they are wearing helmets when riding around the streets. Please remind your children to look both ways before crossing the road and not to talk to strangers. Have a great holiday. Until next time, Mrs K Green

ASSEMBLY ROSTER – TERM 2

PBL Focus

Term 3 has been a busy term with lots of social skills lessons and Rock and Water lessons taking place in classrooms and with Mr Fowell. We have continued to evaluate and adjust our playground rules and routines in order to provide a safe environment and support students to interact positively. We are proud to share the following data and the positive impact that PBL is having across the school.

- Since the changes were made to the morning duty routine, there has been a 64% reduction in morning incidents - Since the introduction of referee duty and other playground initiatives at recess and lunch, playground incidents have reduced by 33% - After ongoing social skills lessons and the creation of "Respectful League", classroom incidents have reduced by 43% Thank you for your continued support in helping our students display Ambarvale All Star behaviour everyday. GOT IT You would have seen a team of professionals from the Got It! Program at school last Tuesday. They will also be attending the P&C meeting tonight to present some information about the program. We would love to see as many K-2 Parents there as possible as the targeted program is for students aged 5-8 years old. This is a fantastic opportunity for students, families and our school. FROM THE PASTORAL CARERS DESK Wow, Term 3 is almost over and we have seen many encouraging achievements and positive outcomes through extra programs, events and activities at Ambarvale Public School. “Education Week” was recognised earlier this term throughout NSW. It was a great opportunity to celebrate the success of school communities, and acknowledge the important contribution schools make to our society. At Ambarvale, the dedicated staff continue to support our boys and girls all year with genuine commitment and energy.

They are providing wonderful opportunities in education and personal development. Recently, I have talked with an increased number of people about feeling stressed and worried, and it is true to say that there are times when we all feel this way!

Anxiety is considered a natural reaction. It seems many people can experience a heightened nervousness about various situations and life in general, but for some people anxious thoughts, feelings, or physical symptoms can become so severe and upsetting that they interfere with their ability to go about their daily lives. Sometimes simple changes to lifestyle can help lower stress and anxiety. Regular exercise, lowering alcohol and caffeine, enjoying activities and interests, improving time management skills, meditation and relaxation time, and adequate sleep can all help to lower anxiety. However, if anxiety is affecting a person’s work, school, home life or relationships then professional assistance from a doctor or psychologist should be considered. The School Counsellor could be helpful.

I hope everyone has a safe, happy and restful holiday, as we ready ourselves for a busy Term 4. Next term I will be at Ambarvale on Friday only.

If I can be of any assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.

Until next time, cheers. Rob Hodgson JP
