o It sounds strange but please try to remember the way from the school to the host family! :-)
Please take the map with you the first days so you can´t get lost. Remember the street name of
your stay so you are able to ask.
o During your stay you will be a member of the family so treat the Spanish family like you
would treat your own family. Be polite, you know the magic words: Good morning, good
afternoon, good evening, please and thank you.
o Strive to talk to your family. It doesn't matter if you make mistakes. You are here to learn! Use
the opportunity! Your host family will be happy to correct you.
o Avoid to judge about your family by first impressions: Wait until you got to know them.
Remember that you're in a different culture and for example: Very often older people are more
open-minded and have more time to talk to you than young couples with young children.
o The same about food: Try the food first before complaining. If you have a special diet, do
not forget to remind your family in advance, like if you follow a medical treatment.
o Keep your room tidy: Your family will not be very happy if they find towels or clothes on the
floor. Please take a beach towel with you so you won't dirty the towels at home.
THE ACCOMODATION
General Conditions
o If you are 18+ years old, you have no deadline to get home, but please remember that some members of the family
work and go to bed early. Try to come home without making too much noise. If you are a minor, you need an authorization
signed by your legal guardian which allows you to come home late.
o It is forbidden to smoke, take a friend home without permission and buy or drink alcohol.
o Ecological Note: Please remember that you are visiting a region with very little rainfall, so make responsible use of
water to help the families economize their water consumption. We encourage you to take not more than one shower a day.
Furthermore, we kindly ask you to please reduce the energy consumption: Switch of the light if you leave your room and
use computer and television etc. only sparingly.
o Important tips concerning your stay in a shared flat:
o Please respect the other flatmates and your accommodation. Clean up after cooking and keep the community area
orderly. Respect also the resting hours and try not to make noise during “siesta” and after 10pm. Remember: People came
to study and need to rest before going to school. If you would like to party join one of the many bars Málaga offers.
o It is forbidden to smoke inside, have visitors over night and any kind of drugs.
o Late check-ins have an extra cost. If you booked a late flight please consult OnSpain 1 week before arrival at latest and
the prices extra. Arrivals after midnight can´t be received so please consider this before booking your trip.
USEFUL INFO
o Bus number 11 and 3 take you directly to the city centre and bring you from the historical center to Pedregalejo or
El Palo. At bus stop Plaza de la Marina you reach easily our city school and all places of interest. You can reach
everything at a walking distance.
o The nearest bus stop is called LAS ACACIAS (Pedregalejo) to reach OnSpain beach.
o The buses go every few minutes, starting to work from 6:00 or 7:00 am depending if it is a business day or not. The
last bus from the Alameda leaves at about 10pm depending if it is a working day, Saturday or holiday. From this time
normal buses are not working, you have to take the night bus (N1). (At the reception you will find a map with the
different bus stops.)
o The ticket price is 1.30 € for one way. Prepare change as the bus driver may not change a 10 or 20 Euros bill. Or
even better buy a bus card in one of the Tobacco Shops (= estancos) with which 10 trips cost around 8€. This card has
another advantage: Within one hour, you can change busses 2 times as you want just paying once.
o If you have prefer to take a taxi, a taxi cost around 10€ from the Alameda Principal to Pedregalejo / El Palo.

lines and timetables of the
whole Malaga!
Transport
SHOPS
Most of the shops in Málaga are open from 9:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 until 20:00. Large commercial centers do not close during noon. On Saturday afternoon, some shops and all department stores are open, while Sundays everything is closed (except for a few special dates when all shops are allowed to open even on a Sunday).
BANKS
The vast majority of banks is open between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm. However, an extensive network of cash points can help you to obtain cash whenever you like.
THEATRES and CINEMAS
Most cinemas offer sessions from 12:00 pm to 12:30 am daily. Theatres and concert halls begin their shows usually between 8:00 and 9:00 pm. During summer you can visit some open-air cinemas along the beach for free.
RESTAURATS and BARS
In Malaga like in the rest of Spain, it is usual to eat later than in other European countries. The first meal of the day, breakfast, is usually done between 9:00 and 11:00 am. Lunch is between 2:00 and 3:00 pm and dinner between 9:00 and 10:00 pm. However, the hours of the restaurants are also suitable to the rhythm of work life and our visitors, so you can eat lunch from 1:00 to 3:00 pm in the afternoon, while dinner usually is served from 9:00 h to 11:30 pm. Many touristic restaurants in the city center already changed their hours so you also can have an early lunch/dinner.

SITES OF INTEREST
THE ALCAZABA
The Alcazaba is an Arabian military fortress built on the walls of a Roman fortress in the
eleventh century. The fortress is situated on top of a hill where you have great view
over the city and the sea. It originally consisted of 3 protecting walls (two still remain),
over 100 towers and a top with a residential area including 3 palaces.
ROMAN THEATER
The Roman Theatre is located right at the foot of the Alcazaba. It was not discovered
until 1951. despite its size with a radius of 31 meters and a width of 19 meters!
Our tip: You should go there in the dark as it is beautifully illuminated.
GIBRALFARO
Next to the Alcazaba you find the Gibralfaro Castle. In times of the
Phoenicians, this place was a beacon. Afterwards, Abderramán the third
rebuilt it into a fortress which Yasuf I changed into a castle during the
fourteenth century.
THE CHURCH OF SANTIAGO
The Church of Santiago is located in Calle Granada. It was built in the sixteenth
century in a mixture of Gothic and Mudéjar Style. This is the church where Málaga’s
most famous inhabitant, the painter Pablo Picasso, was baptized.
THE CATHEDRAL
The construction of the Cathedral of Malaga began in 1528 after the Spanish won
the battle against the Moorish, who have been living in the region for many
centuries. The Cathedral was built on top of a mosque as it was the case in many
Spanish cities after the "Reconquista". Its construction was not completed until 1782
and therefore it shows many different architectural styles such as Gothic,
Renaissance and Baroque. It is known under the name "La Manquita" (The
one-armed) as it only has one tower (not two like all other cathedrals) due to
financial reasons.
MUSEUMS
Málaga is offering by this time more than 35 museums. One popular one is the
birthplace of Picasso is located in the Plaza de la Merced, right in the centre of
Málaga. Other important museums are: Picasso-Museum, CAC - museum of
modern art, Pompidou, Museum of Arts and Customs, Municipal Heritage
Museum, Russian Museum, Automobile and the Thyssen Museum.
Try to keep the same habits of saving energy and recycling rubbish in your Spanish family
and shared apartments like you do at home:
- Do not mix trash: separate waste (paper, cardboard, plastic, organic, etc...) There are several containers.
- Take care not to leave taps open or lights on unnecessarily.
- Do not flush tissues, napkins, medicines etc. down the toilet.
- Make the most of natural light, keeping the blinds raised or repositioning the table.
- Try to make the most of the outdoor temperature: Use heating and air conditioning only when necessary and
ensure that windows and doors are closed.
- Notify, as soon as possible, any water leaks.
