Gavin Fletcher – Has over 10 years’ experience in Black Economic Empowerment (BEE). He ran his own SANAS accredited agency for 8 years and was an accredited SANAS Technical Signatory. In 2012 he left the verification field to consult full time. Tracey Naidoo – Holds a BA Degree in Media, Communications and Marketing and has over 8 years’ experience in Events and Project Management. Her core focus revolves around Training, Marketing and Brand Awareness. Haley Fletcher – Has extensive experience in Publishing and Events Management and has been in the industry for 16 years. She is also a Director and Shareholder of Topco Media (focusing on SA’s Top 500 companies) whose publications include: South Africa’s Top Performing Companies, Impumelelo, Top Women in Business and Government, Top 500 South Africa’s Best Companies, Top 300 Companies and Estetica. Sergey Bashala – His involvement in Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) dates back to 2007 where he started as a BEE Executive and later assumed different roles and responsibilities from Senior Verification Analyst to Verification Manager and BEE Management Consultant on special projects. He currently serves on the Association of BEE Verification Agencies (ABVA) Board, is a member of the DTI Joint Technical Committee on B-BBEE and sits on the Academic Committee responsible for the MDP (B-BBEE) Programme offered both at Wits and UNISA.

nEw BEE cOdEs On skills dEvElOpMEnt – as Of 1 May 20151. Companies have to double their existing training budgets from 3% to 6% of payroll.2. Skills Development is now a priority element with a 20 points weighting.3. To avoid dropping a level in B-BBEE status a company must achieve a minimum of 40% or 8 points of the target set out

in the Skills Development scorecard. 4. Training aligned to ACI (African, Coloured and Indian) targets. In terms of the Skills Development Levies Act: all organisations in South Africa with a payroll in excess of R500,000 per annum must pay a 1% Skills Development Tax on their payroll.

you may claim back some of this skills development tax if:• You have paid the SDL tax; and• You provide approved training (internal/external) to employees that is aligned with Pivotal skills. to support your claim you need to submit : 1. An annual training report which tells the SETA what training has taken place in your company in the last 12 months,

and which employees received training. 2. A workplace skills plan that advises the SETA of the training you will provide in the next 12 months, based on your

operational requirements, the industry you operate in and the critical skills identified by the SETA.

eMPloyMent eQuity If your company has more than 50 employees (or a turnover above the designated threshold) you are required to have an Employment Equity Plan and report in line with the requirements of Employment Equity Act.
