Hello and thank you for your interest in Watermark University!

Your curiosity is to be commended and it may even be the key to better health. Studies show that satisfying curiosities and learning new things can keep the mind agile and sharp. That’s why we created Watermark University. We know that stimulating the mind and strengthening the body has enormous benefits at any age and may even slow the process of memory loss.

Besides being good for you, keeping your mind and the body active and engaged doesn’t just improve your life – it’s a whole lot of fun! Enroll in a class or two that pique your interest. I’m confident you’ll learn something new and make a few friends along the way. While you’re at it, why not suggest a class or even volunteer to teach a subject you’re passionate about?

Just give us a call to reserve a space in a class that intrigues you. Please keep in mind that class space is limited, priority is given to residents and most, but not all classes are free. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you in a Watermark University course this semester!

Sincerely,

Amanda Aaron Connie Haworth

A Penny saved… Sue Stabile 3rd Fridays | 1:15pm Inn Money has taken many forms over time. Bartering, which can take the place of money, may seem the fore-runner, but history has shown that it is not. Let’s explore the various forms that money has taken, the practice of bartering, then and now, and some of the newer, less known forms of “commerce.” Credit cards, Pay pay, E-commerce are present today with advantages and disadvantages over using traditional methods of payment for a myriad of services, tangible and intangible purchases, leasing, and so much more! A Rose would Smell as Sue Stabile 1st and 2nd Thursdays Inn Sweet Cyndy Bennett 4:00pm The history of fragrance and lotions goes back to the very beginning of civilization. Eventually people discovered that oils and rendered animal fats not only helped heal the skin but prevented further damage. The rich used fine almond, olive and sesame oils, while the poor smelled less fragrant but were probably equally comfortable with castor oil. As far back as 200 B.C.E., the Babylonian ruler, Hammurabi, decreed that everyone in his kingdom (men and women) had to wash in perfume. Other famous tales of Perfume include, Napoleon, King Louis XIV of France, and even Sir Walter Raleigh! Please come to this fragrant session to experience some of the basic components of perfumes, and about the methods used to create them, past and present. Marvin Wurth and his wife Estelle moved into The Watermark in January of 2016. As he has made his career working in IT, it may have been surprising to find that he has an active interest in public debate, current events, and active political discussions. Subjects are always placed in a historical context in order to show how non-musical developments impacted the lives and creativity of composers. Mr. Engel believes that music lectures should be entertaining as well as informative. To that end, his explanations are never too technical and he infuses his material with amusing anecdotes and musical illustrations. Mr. Engel has had an unusual background. After graduating college with a BA (major in music), he settled in Paris where he resided for 14 years. There, he studied cello, art history (at the Sorbonne) and earned diplomas in the French language.
