• He created dances.

• He is credited with making modern dance popular.

• His dance troupe is named after him, The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and is in New York City.

• They travel the world.

• He received the Kennedy Center Honors in 1988 just one year before his death.

• In 2014, President Barack Obama selected Mr. Ailey to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
