ALUMNI NEWS 2017 marks the 20th Anniversary of the St. Robert School Middle School Musical. The 1997 production of Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat began a spring tradition that continues this May 11-13 when Shrek Jr. debuts. The dedi- cated volunteers who mounted that first production believed that the students needed an opportunity to showcase their budding stage talents – and they were right. Graduates continue to perform in their high school productions, and some have gone on to careers in professional theater. Dominican High School’s recent production of In the Heights showcased the talents of ten SRS grads: Kieran Arnold ’14, Kevin Linn ’13, Anne Linn ’13, Eleanor Desing ’16, Adela Luna ’15, Maura Linn ’16, Cailey O’Neill ’13, Brigid Jurgens ’15, Kate Frediani ’15, Noraclare O’Neill ’16. Our goal is to send this newsletter quarterly via email. To save costs, we will U. S. mail only once a year to alumni. To receive the newsletter quarterly, please make sure Lisa Lesjak ([email protected]) has your email address! April, 2017 Dino Black ’09 illustrated a recently published book, Guns and Ice Cream, writ- ten by Father Domenic Jose Roscioli. The book was inspired by Paul Newman’s The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford, CT. Since 1988, thousands of chil- dren have attended the camp, and other camps have been developed around the world, continuing the mission to provide an environment where campers are safe, respected and loved. Dino founded Dino Black Studios, and generously donated his artwork to the 2017 Emerald Auction to benefit St. Robert School. Milwaukee Magazine profiled Dr. John Hanson ’52 in its March issue. A retired oncologist and cancer researcher, John now spends his days raising funds for the John P. Hanson Foundation for Cancer and Cellular Research. His current efforts are to support three researchers at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center at Northwest- ern University, where he hopes to one day endow a professorship. Paul Gallo ’04 and Matt Hammer ’99 took the School’s Buddies program to heart. They have re- mained friends into adult- hood, and keep in touch. The little and big buddy are both anesthesiologists, inspired after attending a Career Day presentation together by Dr. James Langenkamp, husband of long-time 3rd grade teach- er Vida Langenkamp. Paul was lucky to have Matt’s advice and experience as they followed a similar path. Paul is beginning his residency at UW-Madison Hospital and Matt is affiliated with Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. In February, Robert (Robin) Gohsman ’67 opened City Lights Brewing Co. in the former Milwaukee Gas Light Company Building in Milwaukee’s Menomonee Valley. Gohsman lovingly restored the former coal gasification plant, designed by Alexander Eschweiler in 1902, into a state-of-the-art brewery offering four beers, tours, and eventually, a beer garden and food. City Lights, with its tower-top sign, is visible from I-94 just east of Miller Park. Educating and Inspiring Saints and Leaders (Photo Credit – Kate Jurgens, Pax Photo)
