Dear Fellow Alumni:
Homecoming 2014 saw approximately
360 people at the luncheon, and 170 in
attendance at the dinner/dance. Due to
the rain and thunderstorms we had to
change the location of the Homecoming
luncheon to the Lebanon Golf and Coun-
try Club where the dinner/dance was
also held that evening. We were very
appreciative to the Country Club and to
Ann and Dave Willits for accommodat-
ing our large crowd and we thank our
luncheon caterer, Chester and Freda
Jordan for making the luncheon location
change with us. Class reunions were
held for the classes of 1959, 1964, 1969,
1974, 1979, and 1984. There was also
good attendance from alumni from the
50’s, 60’s 70’s and 80’s.
Homecoming for 2015 will be held on
Saturday, October 10 coinciding with
the annual Columbus Day weekend.
The location for the picnic luncheon will
be on the grounds of the Rutherford
Parks Library and our dinner/dance will
be at the Lebanon Country Club.
Currently, in addition to the $100,000 in
the investment account, we have a bal-
ance of $1,233.37 in regular checking,
$50,075.68 in the Library account, and
$29,292.27 in the LTA account. In July,
we will be funding five scholarships at
$1,500 each.
This year we had three (3) scholarships
funded by individual donations. We are
very appreciative of the generosity of
these contributors. Anyone who is in-
terested in funding a full scholarship in
honor or in memory of a classmate or
anyone else, please contact me at
615/451-0468 or emai l me at
The Scholarship Selection Committee,
chaired by Carleton Thackston ‘67, com-
pleted the selection of this year’s 5 recipi-
ents for the $1,500 scholarships. We have
now completed the 15th year of the Alumni
scholarship program. The list of this year’s
recipients are on page 3.
The endowed J.B. Leftwich CHMA Editors’
Scholarship at Cumberland University (in
its 4th year) was awarded to Elizabeth
Marie Jones for the academic year of
2014 - 2015 in the amount of $1,000.
Elizabeth is an English/Secondary
Education major from Lebanon. She is also
a writer for the student newspaper at
Cumberland University.
Enclosed with this newsletter you will find
contribution forms and a self-addressed
return envelope to be sent to the Alumni
Association with your donation(s). Please
remember that all your contributions are
IRS tax deductible. Also, enclosed will be
an Alumni Questionnaire to be complet-
ed and returned. Some of the information
you send us will be used in the August
newsletter in our “Alumni Update” sec-
tion.
We have had a very successful year with
regard to donations by Alumni and others.

As of May 15, 2015 we have received donations of
$24,847 for the general fund and $49,207 for the
Library fund. A total of 388 donors participated in the
fundraisers. These figures are from the beginning of our
June 2014 fundraiser through May 15 of this year and
includes scholarship contributions.
For this year’s Homecoming, plans are being made for
reunions for the classes of 1955, 1960, l965, 1970, 1975,
1980 and 1985. Rob Collins is working on getting his
1955 class members together for a 60 year reunion.
Mike Nash will be in touch with his Class of 1960 class-
mates about an informal gathering at the Homecoming
activities to celebrate a 55 year reunion. The Class of
1965 is preparing for their 50 year reunion spearhead-
ed by Joe Brakebill, Joe Thomas, and Ned Evans. The
Class of 1970 has John Flanagan, Stewart Monti, and
Mark Shepard preparing for a 45 year reunion. Tom
Clemmons and Joe Adams have been talking about and
are looking into a 40 year reunion for their Class of
1975. Jennifer Franklin Winfree is going to take on the
task of a get-together for the Class of 1980 for their 35
year reunion. Melissa McCornack and Bud Maxey and
their committee are planning a 30 year reunion for the
Class of 1985. Please call us at 615/451-0468 or email
me at [email protected] if you need information on
your class members. We will be happy to provide you
with a roster of names, addresses, phone numbers and
email.
Our next Board of Directors meeting will be on Satur-
day, July 11, at the Ingram Alumni House.
This brief Library update: Extensive roof work has been
completed at a cost of $19,200. All 11 windows have
been completely reworked and the cost was underwrit-
ten by an alumnus. Prior to Homecoming 2014, con-
crete and mortar work was completed at a cost of
$1,450. The Library was also pressure washed in Sep-
tember of last year and the cost was underwritten by
private donations. Our next major project will be the
painting and patching of the interior and exterior of the
Library. This will be completed prior to this year’s
Homecoming. We plan to have the floors refinished
before Homecoming by a company we have contracted
with.
Please be sure to reserve the weekend of Satur-
day, October 10 for the 2015 Homecoming.
We are looking forward to another great turnout, so
please make plans to return to the campus for this
year’s reunion. On behalf of our Board of Directors, my
sincere thanks to all who continue to support our efforts
to preserve the history of CHMA.
Sincerely,
Rob Hosier ‘63
