Mechanical design

Drain holesMotors that will be operated in very humid or wetenvironments, and especially under intermittent duty,should be provided with drain holes. The appropriate IMdesignation, such as IM 3031, is specified on the basisof the method of mounting the motor.

In the basic design, sizes 63 to 100 are supplied withoutdrain holes, with which they can be provided as needed.If holes are drilled, the degree of protection will changeto IP 54. If the motors are provided with special feltplugs in the holes, the IP 55 will be retained.

Sizes 112 to 250 are provided with closable plasticplugs in the drain holes (see diagram below). The plugswill be open on delivery. When mounting the motors, itshould be ensured that the drain holes face downwards.In the case of vertical mounting, the upper plug must behammered home completely. In very dustyenvironments, both plugs should be hammered home.

Terminal bo xSizes 63 to 180The terminal box is made of light metal alloy and islocated on top of the stator. The lower part of the box isintegrated with the stator. It is provided with 2 knockoutopenings on each side. Sizes 160-180 also have asmaller opening. Cable glands are not included.

Sizes 200 to 250The terminal box and cover are made of deep drawnsteel and mounted on top of the stator. The box isbolted to the stator and is thus not rotatable. The size ofthe box is the same in all motors.

In the basic design, the terminal box is provided withtwo FL 13 flange openings, one on each side. Theopening on the right side, seen from the D-end, issupplied with a flange with two holes for Pr 37 cableglands. On delivery, the holes are sealed by means ofplastic plugs. Cable glands are not supplied. The

opening on the other side is provided with a coverflange. The box can also be provided with an FL 13opening towards the N-end.

The motors can also be provided with an extra largeterminal box, standard for voltage code S. See variantcode 019, under the heading “Terminal box”, on page34. This will increase the dimension HD by 32 mm. Thebox is supplied with two FL 21 openings. The rightopening is provided with a flange with two holes for Pr54 cable glands. The holes are sealed by means ofplastic plugs. Cable glands are not supplied. Theopening on the other side is provided with a coverflange.

When new motors are manufactured, the terminal boxcan be mounted on the left or the right side. See variantcode 021 and 180, under the heading “Terminal box”,on page 34.

Stator framework, bearing shields and feet are made ofan extra corrosion resistant aluminium alloy with lowcopper content, with the following exceptions:Size 250-2 SMA, basic version, has cast iron feet.

StatorSize 250-2 SMB, high output version, has cast iron feetand bearing shields.

The flange bearing shields of sizes 180 to 250 aremade of cast iron.

Bearing lif eThe nominal life is defined as the number of hours thatare attained or exceeded by 90% of identical bearings,in a large test series, under certain specified conditions.50% of the bearings attain a life of as much as 5 timesthis figure.

The life of bearings is dependent on various factors,such as bearing load, motor speed, operating tempera-ture and the purity of the grease. The permissible radialand axial loading for different motor sizes is shown inthe table on page 8 and 9.

The table is valid for 50 Hz. For 60 Hz and/or someother bearing life than is specified in the table, thevalues are changed according to the table on the right.

The table values assume the occurrence of only radial(FR) or axial (FA) forces. In the case of simultaneousradial and axial forces, information can be supplied onrequest. It is assumed that the radial force, FR, isapplied at the end of the motor shaft, according to thediagram on the right.

LubricationOn delivery, the motors are lubricated with a type ofgrease intended for use in dry or humid environments,at normal ambient temperatures. Motor sizes 63 to 100are lubricated for bearing temperatures of between -25to +150°C. Motor sizes 112 to 250 are lubricated forbearing temperatures of between -30 to +110°C. Seealso variant codes 039 and 40, under the heading“Bearings and lubrication”, on page 31.

Information about ambient temperature applies tostandard motors according to insulation class F andtemperature rise class B.

On request, motor sizes 112 to 180 can be providedwith grease nipples for both bearings. See variant code041, under the heading “Bearings and lubrication”, onpage 31.

The basic design of motor sizes 200 to 250 haveprovision for bearing lubrication during service.Lubrication intervals and grease quantities are specifiedon a plate on the motor as well as in the instructions formaintenance supplied with the motor.
