Daylighting SystemsIntroduction

Natural daylight significantly improves the internal environment of a building and

can reduce energy costs. To function effectively, buildings must have appropriate,

adequate lighting, subject to the guidance and limitations set out in the current

Building Regulations (Part L - England and Wales, Regulation 22 Part J - Scotland).

Rooflights are the ideal way to provide good natural lighting.

Daylighting SystemsModular Rooflights and Made to Order

Daylighting Systems – the Illuminating Choice

Key Benefits■ The unique kerb design of Alumasc Modular Rooflights incorporates security and

waterproofing features that create a reliable, safe and secure rooflight

■ The kerb has been designed to allow horizontal termination of the waterproofmembrane, making water penetration virtually impossible

■ All glazing in the range is moulded from Marlon FSX Longlife, premium qualitysolid polycarbonate, offering an impact resistance up to 200 times that of glass

■ Alumasc A Range and B Range rooflights feature a unique lock-bolt securitysystem. This ensures a secure and fast installation

A Range superior domed rooflights

provide a high level of security with a

smooth, clean appearance. The hidden

‘lock-bolt’ security system reduces the

risk of a break-in through the rooflight.

Modular 2000 – is an interlocking

glazing system, available in two design

options. Modular 2000 Ultra is an extra

robust system, while Modular 2000

Express is designed for rapid

installation.

Skylight Glazing Systems –

extremely versatile and varied,

including gable ended, hip ended and

pyramid options, as well as attractive

lantern lights.

Continuous Barrel VaultRooflights – practical architectural

glazing that can be linked in many

configurations.

B Range regular domed rooflights

offer the same ‘lock-bolt’ security

system as A Range, allowing an accurate

and fast installation. The security caps

encase each of the rooflight fixings.

Modular Rooflights

Modular rooflights from Alumasc are specially designed to meet the growing

demands of the flat roofing market. Offering a complete range of options,

they are the ideal choice for providing natural daylight into a diversity of

commercial, industrial and domestic buildings.

Made to OrderDaylighting Systems

New kerb for fastefficient installationUnique to the flat roofing market, theAlumasc kerb is designed to allow roofcoverings to be terminated horizontallyat the upper edge of the kerb wall. This practice improves the weatheringdetail of the rooflight.

Flat Roofing & Waterproofing Systems

Daylighting SystemsModular RooflightsAlumasc A Range

The aluminium reinforced rigid PVC-Uframe gives a clean and smooth finish, greatly enhancing the aesthetics of therooflight. The PVC-U frame alsoconceals all the fixings of the unit, acting as a deterrent to theopportunistic intruder.

Alumasc A Range will not compromisethe waterproofing of the roof becausethe kerb has been designed to allowthe roof covering to terminatehorizontally on the upper edge ofthe kerb wall. The waterproofingmembrane is clamped into place by the‘lock-bolt’ security system once theglazing is attached to the kerb.

The attractive design of Alumasc ARange rooflights integrates well withany flat roof membrane system. Thewhite internal finish of the kerb meansthe rooflight blends with any interiordécor.

Alumasc A Range rooflights areavailable in a curved dome or pyramidprofile and in a wide range of sizes. Afull range of ventilation options is alsoavailable.

Alumasc A Range is particularly suitedto applications such as schools, hospitals, sports and leisure centres, offices and other buildings wheresecurity is of particular concern.

Alumasc A Range – Superior Modular Rooflights

Key Benefits■ Maximum security dome rooflight

■ Smooth clean appearance

■ Lock-bolt security system

■ Complete waterproof integrity withthe roofing membrane

■ High performance insulated kerb

Alumasc A Range are superior modular dome rooflights providing high levels of

security and waterproofing. The ‘lock-bolt’ security system means installation of

the rooflight is straightforward, precise and secure. Removal of the glazing can

only be achieved with the use of a ‘lock-bolt’ security opening device.

Smooth appearance

The PVC-U frame with aluminiumreinforcement conceals all fixingscreating a smooth, cleanappearance.

Designed for security

High security is achieved throughthe unique ‘lock-bolt’ securitysystem fixing the glazing to thebase. This security-lockmechanism can only be openedusing a ‘lock-bolt’ opening device.

Horizontal membranetermination

The roofing membrane, whenbrought over the top edge of thekerb, is secured by the ‘lock-bolt’security system, making wateringress virtually impossible.

Insulation

The combination of a cellularPVC kerb with matching standardglazing guarantees optimuminsulation.

7 Superb impact resistance

The polycarbonate glazing hasan impact resistance almost 200times that of glass, creating avery safe rooflight option. It hasco-extruded UV protection andeliminates 98% of harmfulradiation.

5 Simple fixing

The ‘lock-bolt’ security systemfacilitates fast efficient installation.A series of latches, on the undersideof the glazing unit, lock into thekerb, instantly giving a securewatertight fit.

2 Kerb options

Where a non-standard roofopening exists, kerb adaptors canbe specified to provide an exactfit into the prepared builder’supstand.

Daylighting SystemsModular RooflightsAlumasc B Range

The factory fitted security caps onAlumasc B Range encase each of thefixings, offering more reliablewaterproofing and reducing thelikelihood of forced entry throughthe rooflight.

Superior thermal insulation is achievedby the combined properties of thecellular PVC kerb and double or tripleskin polycarbonate glazing.

Alumasc B Range has exceptionalwaterproofing integrity. Wateringress is virtually impossible asthe waterproofing membrane can beapplied to the full height of the kerband terminated horizontally. Whenthe glazing is fitted to the kerb usingthe ‘lock-bolt’ security system thewaterproofing membrane is securedfirmly in place.

Alumasc B Range rooflights areavailable in a curved dome or pyramidprofile and in a wide range of sizes.A complete range of ventilation optionsis also available.

Alumasc B Range is suited to applicationssuch as schools, hospitals, sports andleisure centres, private houses, officesand other heated buildings whereinsulation, weatherability and securityare important factors.

Alumasc B Range – Standard Modular Rooflights

Alumasc B Range are regular modular dome rooflights distinguished by their speed

and accuracy of installation on flat roofs. The ‘lock-bolt’ security system means

less time is required to fix the rooflight to the structure. The fixings required for

installation are supplied pre-fitted to the glazing.

Ventilation OptionsTo ensure a pleasant, healthy environment in buildings the relationship betweeninsulation, heating and ventilation must be correct. Minimum acceptable levelsfor both insulation and ventilation are included in Parts L and F of the BuildingRegulations.

Alumasc Daylighting Systems offer a number of options giving customers theopportunity to choose the most appropriate ventilation for their building.

Rapid Ventilation

Hinged AccessAvailable in both manual andpowered opening options, theseunits are supplied with a single ortandem operating actuator whichcan extend to a maximum of300mm.

The manual option is opened via aworm gear drive operated from floorlevel using an extension pole. Theelectrically powered alternativeincludes a small motor operatedfrom a 240V main supply and the kitincludes a control switch to openand close the rooflight.

Background VentilationBackground ventilation can be achievedby fixing either permanent or hit andmiss trickle vent adaptors onto thekerb above the waterproofingmembrane. These frames have two4000mm2 ventilation slots which whenopen, permit a natural air flow ineither direction.
