Respect. Excellence. Acceptance. Community. Honesty. Dear Parents and Families: I hope your children are coming home with lots of stories to share with you about their day at school. There are so many exciting things happening around the school. We are now getting close to our NAPLAN testing which will occur on the 9th, 10th and 11th May. If parents would like any information on NAPLAN please dont hesitate to speak to your childs teacher, Mrs. Blunt or myself. The Winter season is upon us and we are starting to see the effects of the cold and flu season. Our 5 /6 unit teachers have been struck down by the bug already so if your children are sick we ask that you keep them home for a day or so to allow them to get over the bug and not share it around at school. PREP PICNIC: What a wonderful night it was last Friday night at our annual Prep Picnic. I really enjoyed catching up with both parents and Preppies in a relaxed atmosphere. Thankyou to Mrs. Paterson for your organisation and setting up. I would like to thank our staff who came along to enjoy the evening and all those who helped to pack up. PREP SWIMMING: Thankyou to Life Saving Victoria we are once again be able to offer the free swimming program to our Prep students. This will begin next Tuesday at Bayfit. Parents you are more than welcome to come down and watch your children in the pool. Last year we found this was a wonderful introduction to swimming prior to our schools 10 day intensive swimming program, giving our Preps the understanding of expectations, safety and swimming in readiness for term 4 swimming. BOOK FAIR: Book Fair will take place from 1st - 5th May so save up you pocket money as there will be some fabulous books on sale during the week. In the past we have Parents ask if they can purchase a book from book fair to donate to the school. This is a wonderful way to contribute to our school library. We will have a certificate to go into the cover of the books to say who the books were donated by. 2018 INFORMATION EVENING: Due to the book fair taking place during the week of Monday 1st - Friday 5th May, we have decided to change the Information Evening from Tuesday 2nd May to Thursday 11th May, we apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause. If you have any children ready to begin Prep in 2018 or know of any families who would like to send their children to ANPS in 2018, this is the perfect opportunity for them to come along and witness all of the wonderful things that we do here! SCHOOL PHOTOS: A reminder that School Photo Day is quickly approaching. Next Thursday, May 4th, please make sure ALL students are at school by 8:45am as we do not want students missing out on their class photos. As I have mentioned before we CAN NOT redo class photos because someone was late. If you could ensure ALL students wear correct uniform on the day and are neat and tidy ready for our photos. Order envelopes have already been sent home with each student and family photo envelopes are available from the office. These envelopes, along with payment, are to be returned to the office prior to next Thursday. FAMILY READING MONTH: May is Family Reading Monthat ANPS. We strongly encourage all of our students and their families to join in this whole school event. Reading together creates an opportunity for families to spend special time together reading and discussing the books they love to read. What a great way to promote reading with your children and create special memories of time spent together. Information and a calendar will be sent home with your children. SPORT NEWS: If there are any parents / friends in our community who have coaching / umpiring skills in the game of Netball we would love your help. If you have these skills and are available on Friday mornings between 9am - 10:45am please let Ms Shiels know as soon as possible. A GREAT STORY CAN CHANGE THE WAY PEOPLE THINK ABOUT THE WORLD AROUND THEM. WAKAKIRRI IS A PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL WHERE SCHOOLS AIM TO DO JUST THAT.

Our school is preparing to enter WAKAKIRRI 2017 - Australia’s Search for the Best Story! Our Story Dance Performance will include the students from years 5 and 6 who are very excited to be taking part.

The costs for your child will be approximately between $15 and $22. This includes Wakakirri fees and bus transportation on performance night.

This term, the students and teachers will be looking at who and how people will be involved, the Story outline and the plan for the weeks ahead before show time in Term 3.

We would love the support of parents so if you can help in any of the following ways, please contact John Koutsonikolas.

In the meantime, visit the website www.wakakirri.com for more information and updates.

Perhaps you; Are able to arrange some catering for Rehearsals and Performance day. Have contacts for transport (students and/or props & sets to the venue on show day). Have access to great music and editing programs we can use for our soundtrack or assist with choreography or sets

and props. Can help with fundraising & Sponsorship. Could encourage your child to take part, get involved and ask how it’s going. Assist on the day with hair and makeup. Purchase tickets to the Show to see your child and school perform LIVE at a Professional Theatre.

We look forward to sharing our 2017 Wakakirri Story with you!
