Communications (Digital)
• Wireless communication is the ability to send data or video without being connected to a wire, either by telephone or handheld computer.
• Communications connectivity refers to a program device’s ability to link with other programs and devices.
Digital Camcorder• Produces video recordings with highly
accurate color and crisp clear resolution• The image can be saved as a data file.• View recordings on a regular TV or copy
them to VHS tape (Today can record directly to DVD-R or DVD-RW disk)
• Send MPEG video clips by way of e-mail to a mobile phone or PDA
• Immediate feedback from the LCD screen• Stores still images or short video clips on
flash memory card
Digital Camera• Resembles a traditional camera• Images are recorded and stored in digital form• Captured pictures are stored on floppy disk,

Scanners• Can read text printed on paper and transmit
the information into a form the computer can use and edit.

Speech Recognition
• Speech recognition is the act of talking to a computer and the computer obeys the commands and translates the speech into written text.
• A microphone that is attached to a headset allows the input sound into a computer.
PDA – Handheld Computers• A PDA is a portable computer small
enough to be held in one’s hand.
• It can be used to beam messages, read a book, keep track of appointments, and maintain a contact list.

Notebook Computer
• Notebook is another name for laptop
• The principal difference between a notebook computer and a personal computer is portability.
• Plasma, high contrast, and LCD displays are used in flat screen monitors and portable computers.
Tablet
• A tablet can be written on with a special-purpose pen or stylus and then translate handwriting into text.
• Selections can be made on a touch screen using a pen, stylus, or finger.

• To draw and/or edit pictures
Web Cam/Cell Phone/Web TV
• The Web camera broadcasts images through the Internet.
• The cell phone also allows users to access the Internet by wireless communication.
• The Web TV is a small box with a keyboard that connects to a telephone line and television.
Probes• Probes are devices used by
scientists with a computer to translate data received.
• Handwriting recognition uses a technique by a computer system to recognize characters and other symbols written by hand.
