Image Overview Brochure (Sector Brochure):The responsibility for the English version of this Sector Brochure is withinCommunications Region 3, includingthe printing (in order to avoid any inadvertent alterations).Any additional brochures (English versions only) needed and requested by the countries/regions must be ordereddirectly from Communications Region3.The regional communications manager is responsible for a collectiveorder.The countries have to cover all expenses for copies and distributionthemselves.

The same procedure is suggested forother language versions. Countries shar-ing the same language should cooperateand determine a person responsible forthe translation and distribution.Thetranslation and printing costs should bedivided proportionally among theregions/countries concerned.The respective countries will receive a special CD-ROM from Communi-cations Region 3 containing a templateof the brochure with blind text andphotos.

Note: It must be guaranteed that alltranslations of the Image OverviewBrochure adhere strictly to the originalEnglish text of the brochure.The regional communicationsmanager concerned has to assumeresponsibility for this.

Communications Region 3 must beinformed about any other languagetranslation planned and the person whowill be in charge for translation anddistribution of these language versions.Communications Region 3 will thenprovide/build up a list with all brochureversions.

The graphic standards of ALSTOMCorporate for “publications” form the base for this manual.

In order to preserve the strength, theoriginality and recognition of thecustomer service design, every personwith communication responsibility has to follow the guidelines in this CD manual.

The regional communications managerswill receive CD ROM’s (Macintosh format) from Communications Region3 containing all templates of the PS visual identity manual.

All internal communication and specialdocumentation for employees must be implemented in the layout of thesegment level.

Three-column construction exam-ples for interior pages are shownopposite.

These examples show the flexibility ofthe layout inside the grid as well as thepossibility of prioritizing the information.

With the Country Brochure, one imagecan completely cover the first left-handpage (optional).The expertise of thecompanies can be described, in whiteand within the columns, in the lowerpart of the image, using the specificati-ons of the basic text.

The blue graphic shape is to bepositioned solely on the document’s titlepages.

Captions are associated with the visualsusing a black vertical line.This line must begin one text line before the edge of the image.The linemust end on a level with the last textline of the caption.

Technical product leaflets do nothave a cover, but start with text on the first page.We recommendthe layout shown opposite.

• This comprises the blue shape on thetop left side of the document.

• The text and visual layout is organizedaccording to a three-column grid.

• The main title is in black and in upper and lower case as shown in the example. Subtitles are in blue,in upper and lower case.

• There is the recommendation to placethe product category (14) on the upperlevel of the headline for a better allocation.

• The ALSTOM logotype is printed onthe bottom of the page in a fixed size:56 mm and centered.The Sector andthe Business to the right of the logo-type.

• Captions are associated with the visuals using a black vertical line.This line must begin one text linebefore the edge of the image.The line must end level with the last line of text of the caption.

• The placement of a good picture on the title page is an absolute must,to function as an eyecatcher and to get into the subject better.

In general, SBs are written in English.We recommend following the structureof the template document attached.“Toour Customers” is a standard text.“Whatthis Bulletin is all about” should be asummary of the SB. The ALSTOM logotype is printed on the left bottom of the title page in a fixedsize, with the Sector to the right.

Content: Customers frequently requestField Service Instructions (FSI) whichdescribe the scope of repair work/modifications/maintenance work thatwill be carried out at the next overhaul.However, we usually don’t hand themout because they contain too muchtechnical details, especially drawings. Ithas therefore been decided to create a“customer-friendly” version, which canbe handed out to customers and does not contain any confidential information.

The new formats are based on two well-known internal formats: on IFSI’s(Initial Field Service Instructions) whichare valid for all machines of a certainfleet/type and on the actual FSI’s whichare based on the IFSI but are only validfor a particular plant.

The same system applies to SFSI and CFSI: the Sales Field ServiceInstruction (SFSI) is the generaldocument which is used by Sales; theCustomer Field Service Instruction(CFSI) is based on the SFSI and is the final, plant-specific version thecustomer receives.
