W allace, have just bought and are opera ting Ray's Place, grocery, ½ mile above P.O., n orth s ide, having taken over Saturday. They are from Santa Barbara and Oroville. He was a Ric hfield dis tributor, was in El Centro in 1925. His sister is Mrs. Homer Spear.

The property, 100' on Hiway 80 and 243 deep, has a residence., which the new owners occupy. Other minor build­ings and warehouse are in the rear.

Alpine's population total on the entrance si gn s here, due to the efforts of The Sun in getting the antiquated 410 taken off. New digits will tell a different story, 1700 det erm ined after investigation'. The Registrar of Voters reveals that

Altine's two precincts, embracing 28½ square miles, totals 864. The multiplication factor, as of March 10, being 2, gives Alpine 1700,. which will go on the signs. As many are not registered, and considering the postoffice figures, The Sun, and others, have placed the total around 2400.

FIRE IN WRIGHT'S CAR A second-degiee hand burn was

suffered by Sidney A. Wright when he pulled a blazing seat cushion from his car while coming home last week. A short in the battery under the seat caused it. He drove on to some houses where a girl was water­ing, quickly put it out,saved the car. The cushion had to be replaced.
