Alpha Beta Kappa Overview

Alpha Beta Kappa (ABK) is the premier national honor society for America’s colleges,

universities, and distance learning institutions. It has been serving many of these

institutions for the past 34 years. ABK places Chapters in institutions which demonstrate

high standards over a period of many years in the education and train of students in

numerous fields, trades, and occupations. Each year more and more outstanding students

receive Alpha Beta Kappa Honors.

What do you need to do to be

eligible for ABK?

In order to be eligible for the Alpha Beta

Kappa Honors, students will have to:

• Maintain a 3.85 GPA in their

studies at UMA

• Submit a one-time fee of $50 for

membership (no annual dues!)

• Complete at least 30 credits in any

course of study

• Not be on attendance probation

• Complete the membership

application

What are the benefits of being an

ABK Member?

Each student who is elected to

membership will receive:

• A personalized membership

certificate

• An ABK Gold Key

• A congratulatory letter from ABK

and a narrative about the society

• Ability to reference ABK on all

future resumes

• Ability to request letters of

reference when needed.

Alpha Beta Kappa Chapters can be found in nearly every state in the nation.

Alpha Beta Kappa members will retain a lifetime membership and will have no annual dues.

The UMA Chapter of ABK has been give the title Epsilon Gamma of Florida.

One of the purposes of ABK is to recognize leadership ability in our

students. Think of someone you consider a strong leader. Discuss

the qualities and characteristics that person possesses and how

they contribute to their leadership abilities.

The second Greek letter represents Brasidas, a distinguished

Spartan General who planned, organized and followed through in

his cause. His life reminds us of our opportunity and duty to "fight

the good fight." What is the “good fight” and why is it our duty to fight

it?

I hereby waive any right to inspect to approve the finished video, film, photographs, art, advertising copy, or printed matter that may be produced in conjunction therewith, or the eventual use that it may be applied, and shall be without liability to me for any illusionary effect or unintended distortion. I agree that UMA has the right to attribute my statements (or statements in different words which have substantially the same meaning) to me, which is an expression of my personal experience and belief.
