I have been married to George Moberg (Everett class of ‟61) for 49 years last
June 6th
. We are both retired and love having all of our own time to enjoy each
other and our family. We have three children and eight grandchildren (four
boys and four girls). We enjoy being involved in everything that our
grandchildren do. Three of the boys are very involved in football and travel
baseball. Our oldest granddaughter goes to the University of Michigan and is
studying to be a doctor. She will be going to India to study next year. Due to
the fact that we are big Spartan fans, it was sort of hard for me to buy my first
Michigan items. This year we made a trip to Savannah, GA to watch one of
our granddaughters compete in National Dance Competition. We were so glad
that we were there to watch her, as her dance group took the grand prize out of
40 dance studios that competed. I still love to dance as much as I ever did and
really enjoy watching my granddaughters carry on the tradition of dancing in
our family. George does a lot of golfing in the summer and in the winter we
go to Florida for a couple of months. It‟s hard to believe it has been 50 years
since I graduated, but it is true what they say – time really does fly. I am so
excited for our 50th class reunion and to see all of my former classmates.

Since the last reunion I married Patricia, a wonderful woman, great
companion and a very stabilizing influence in my life. We share a common
mission and ministry called Change of Heart. We help ex-offenders and
those with addictions deal with their re-entry into the community and hope
we are an “Island of Sanity” in their lives. We are lucky enough to enjoy
our children, all in their 30‟s and 40‟s, and our six grandchildren. We are
still in good enough health to let our grandkids babysit us once in a while.
We love to travel and took a two-week pilgrimage to the Holy Lands and
Rome in July of 2012. We are planning to take a walk on “the Way” (see
the movie “The Way” with Martin Sheen to get an idea of our dream.)
Hint….it‟s a 500 mile walk from southern France to Santiago de

Jerry and I were Everett High School sweethearts and our 50th wedding
anniversary is coming up in January of 2014. God has blessed us with three
beautiful children – Danielle, Brent and Christian. We also have three awesome
grandchildren – Ezekiel, Victoria and Ava. What joy they bring to our lives! It
has been an interesting and very full life. Jerry served 26 years as a firefighter
for the City of Lansing. I was a beautician and owned a beauty salon in south
Lansing. We both sold real estate for Century 21 (Jerry still does). We did the
country life with milking goats raising chickens, pigs and cats and breeding
Springer spaniel dogs. We have been boaters (Jerry‟s Swedish Viking blood!)
and we lived aboard our ketch “Morningstar:, sailing the Great Lakes and the
warmer climes in winter – the Bahamas, Exhumes, and Key West – traveling
down the Mississippi. Another trip took us through the Erie Canal, New York
and down the eastern seaboard. Then along came the grandkids (“boat anchors”
as Jerry calls them). So we sold the boat to spend time with them. Now we
travel via our motor home. It has been a wonderful life (my favorite movie) and
we can‟t wait to see all of our high school peers at the reunion and eagerly
anticipate what God has in store for us in the next chapter of our lives.

grandchildren. I lived 10 years in Florida and the past 39 years in N.C.
and still love it. I continue doing adventure travel and have been to 30
foreign countries – have ridden elephants in the jungles of Nepal, ridden
camels and camped in the Sahara Desert in Morocco, and ridden two-
hump camels and camped in gers in the Gobi Desert during our month-
long stay last year in Mongolia, China and Tibet. We returned home for
six months before we left for a four-country African safari. I fell in love
with Africa. I will be heading back to Africa for another three-week safari
– this time with my daughter. I will miss the reunion as our travel is at the
same time. I am still passionate about rescuing retired racing Greyhounds
and have a lovely “old girl.” Hello to everyone and enjoy the reunion!

I took early retirement from teaching in 2008 to care for my mom for a
year. Now I‟m simply enjoying my retirement. I like traveling,
hiking/walking my dog, reading, boating, swimming, skiing, fishing,
gardening, friendships, and being a mom and grandmother. I have three
grown children: Heather Grace Harney Awad (Omar) of Shoreview, MN,
Jason Axel Harney (Yuliya) of Whitmore Lake, MI, and Adam Jacob
Harney (Deneil) of Chelsea, MI. I have four Minnesota granddaughters
and Jason and Yuliya expect their first child in early November. Five
Granddaughters! I spend a lot of time in Minnesota including trips to
Colorado with my granddaughters, and in the UP of Michigan at my
LaSalle Island cabin (Lake Huron) with family and friends. I‟m looking
forward to seeing everyone at the reunion!

I married Joyce in 1967 and we recently celebrated our 46
st anniversary. I
earned my B.A and M.A. degrees from MSU. I retired in 2006 having spent 36
years as a classroom teacher in Jackson, MI. I also spent seven years in the U.S.
Navy – five years in active reserves (1963-1968) and two years on active sea
duty (1969-1970). Joyce also retired in 2006 after having worked 26 years for
Spring Arbor University. Joyce and I have two children: Eric (41) and Nicole
(32). Eric is an ordained Baptist minister in Flushing, Michigan. He is married
to Julie and they have two children: Miranda (13) and Timothy (10). Our
daughter Nicole is also married (Daryl) and she is now a stay-at-home mom in
Saginaw County. She and Daryl have two little girls: Cora (3 years old) and
Clara (15 months old). We love to see our grandchildren as often as possible.
Joyce and I have been active members of Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church
for 40 years. We have enjoyed making our home in that community. We travel
when we can and enjoy being with family and friends. To close, I would say that
finding Christ was my greatest discovery; marrying Joyce was one of my best
decisions; and parenting and raising Eric and Nicole was my most rewarding
“job.” I wish everyone a great time at the reunion.

Ken and I have been married forty six years this August and plan to celebrate in
Sedona, Arizona. We have two sons and a daughter and their spouses living in
or near Lansing who have blessed us with ten grandkids ages two to fourteen.
We love interacting with them often. We are active members of Central Free
Methodist Church where currently Ken serves as facility and finance manager
and I help in our English as a Second Language program. Ken taught math in
the Lansing School District at Walter French, Pattengill and Eastern for 34
years. Since retiring eleven years ago he has enjoyed teaching math to
prospective elementary teachers eight weekends a year for Spring Arbor
University. I taught fourth grade for two years at Moore‟s Park Elementary
School then stayed home to care for our children. At neighbors‟ requests I
began providing child care in our home which evolved into a full time job for
twenty years! Ken and I have been blessed with opportunities to travel – to
Germany with my parents, siblings and their spouses, to Brazil with our kids to
visit family living there, to Greece with my brother and his wife celebrating
their twenty fifth and our thirty fifth wedding anniversaries, Caribbean cruises,
and trips to Florida and the West with our kids and grandkids, all the while
enjoying the breath-taking beauty of God‟s creation. Our dream is a family
cruise to Alaska. I look forward to the challenge of recognizing former
classmates at our reunion.

These days there are just two of us at home – myself and my nine-year-
old, two-and-a-half pound Applehead Chihuahua Gingersnap. I‟m still
in the home I bought 40 years ago. Now it is painted a dark purple so
as to show my outgoing personality. I‟ve retired twice and for the
past nine years am keeping out of trouble working part-time in a
church-run day care taking care of infants. I‟ve volunteered for the
past 10 years each week at the Love Closet (we give new and gently
used clothing and coats to school-age children three times a year,
sent to us through Christian Services). Reading, company, outings
with friends, yard work, flowers and had sewing keep the rest of my
time filled. I‟ve been blessed with a rewarding life and I would hope
that all my classmates have also been able to share in God‟s good
blessings and bounty, also.

I have been married to a wonderful woman for the past 40 years and we
retired to South Carolina in 2009. I retired from the US Environmental
Protection Agency as a Senior Biologist/Regulatory Ecotoxicologist,
and as the US National Coordinator (OECD Test Guidelines Program)
with 31 years of federal service (US Army, Food and Drug
Administration, US EPA). I worked in the Washington, DC area during
that time and we resided in Maryland for almost 35 years (1974-2009).
Prior to being a FED, I worked in private industry (Pharmacia, Inc. and
FMC Corp) for several years as a technical rep and as a consulting
ecologist, first for a MD and then a VA environmental consulting
company. I attended Michigan State University (1963-1967) after
leaving Everett High School and received a BS in zoology. Fortunately
I was able to also attend the University of Michigan Biological Station
(UMBS, Pellston, MI) during the summers of 1965 and ‟66. This
valuable experience convinced me that my career interests and goals
were to be ecological and environmental biology. After leaving MSU I
attended graduate school at the University of Kansas (Lawrence, KS)
and received a MA in zoology (1970). At about this time things were
really “popping” in a small country in SE Asia. I was prime selective
service material and spent most of my years at KU trying to finish my
masters research while at the same time avoiding the draft. Two weeks
after my research was completed, I was drafted (for the 4th time!). I
narrowly avoided going to Vietnam and instead was stationed in MD as
a biologist studying the field effects of chemical test agents (18969-
‟71). After discharge from the Army I entered a PhD program at
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and studied under a
professor I had met at UMBS. I married another graduate student in
aquatic entomology in 1973 and graduated with a PhD in 1974. We
then moved to MD. We have two children, a son married, living in
MD and working in the biotechnology area. Our daughter lives in
Chicago and works in retail sales/marketing. She will be getting
married in October 2013 in Myrtle Beach, SC and we are currently all
heavily involved in planning for this event, and as a result I am not able
to attend the 50th reunion. I am enjoying retirement and thankful for all
the interesting experiences and trips to various meetings I took to
Europe and throughout the US while employed by EPA. We are
continuing to travel to places in the US we have not seen. We
especially like to cruise and plan to continue doing this. Besides travel,
my hobbies include stamp and coin collecting, photography, and
reading in my biological fields of interest. I am also very interested in
climate change and in some areas of US history, economics and
political science. That about does it. I give best wishes to those special
friends I had while at EHS (Roger, Norman N. Richard P., Terry A.
etc) and later at MSU.

I am blessed to have been married to my wife Jan for 43 years. We
live in Colorado Springs, Colorado and are both blessed with a
wonderful son Jeff who lives in Denver. After proudly serving for
over 35 years in our Army, I spent six more years as the Director of
the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, an executive education
center for mid-senior level officials with responsibilities for national
security (from military to economic to environmental to human) in 35
counties in the Asia-Pacific region. I now work part-time as a senior
mentor at the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force War Colleges. I spend
lots of time reading – mostly history – and reflecting on how
fortunate we all are to live in this country. Jan and I enjoy most
sports and travelling to favorite spots. I often recall how fortunate I
was to attend Everett with a very special set of classmates and
teachers and coaches. It was probably the most important
foundational period of my life. I am very honored to be an Everett
‟63 graduate.

are classmates who submitted information to the reunion committee.

have been doing over the past 50 years.
However, we are sad to report that several members of the
Class of 1963 have passed away during this time. They
are remembered on the next seven pages of the book.
