Biography

ALMAS BAND ... defending a lifestyle

The twins formed this original band in New Orleans in 1999. Inspired by the cultural and musical fusion of this place. They performed repeated times in the famous "House of Blues", where they had the opportunity to share the stage with artists like Juanes, Carlos Vives, Enrique Bunbury and the legendary Rubén Blades.

 

Back in Puerto Rico, in 2007 ALMAS released their debut album titled “Semilla”. They played in the local scene and shared the stage with Cultura Profética, La Secta, Tego Calderón and the Grammy winning black: guayaba, amongst others.

In 2009 ALMAS BAND released their second album, Audiotour, a celebration of diversity. In which one can appreciate the musical evolution of the twins, keeping the funk style that characterizes the band and the fusion of rhythms that influences them like rock, funk and reggae.

In 2010 Jose and Jorge Colón began a new facet in the entertainment industry as hosts of a local TV show "Puerto Rico Underground” broadcasted by America CV Network. A program aimed at showing young people a Puerto Rico that few people know. ALMAS BAND had the opportunity to collaborate with Cuco Peña in the theme song for a puertorrican television production that can be seen in Telemundo, PR.. Towards the end of the year the producers of the Barefoot Film Company choose five songs from Audiotour to be part of the movie Elite. The movie has been touring throughout the USA and Latin America in several film festivals. Jose and Jorge also collaborated in Salsa a tribute to El Gran Combo which has sold over 100,000 copies and was awarded a gold record that year.

2011 has proven to be a good year for the band, they are in the process of recording their third album . Jose & Jorge Colón have been offered to be hosts of a local TV station, Popular TV for Banco Popular of Puerto Rico which is the most important banks in the Caribbean. During the month of August the band released their new single “Háblame De Ti” and their video release was held during September at La Respuesta in Santurce, PR.

2009-2010 Almas Band Accomplishments

• October 2009• ALMAS BAND second independent album “AUDIOTOUR” CD

Release Concert huge success on a mid-sized club in Santurce, P.R.  La Respuesta more than one thousand people came for the show not having enough space for all of them.

• ALMAS BAND at Hard Rock Café Puerto Rico for a Halloween Show.

• Collaborated in the short film El Abuelo by Tony Jordán. • January 2010• ALMAS BAND performed at CV24 (TV Station) up-front

presentation at La Casona.  • ALMAS BAND performed @ “La Estrella del Norte” in Bayamon in

front a TV audience. • ALMAS BAND Performed @ Puerto Rico Convention Center as part

of “EXPO CALIDAD DE VIDA” promoting health and good spirit.• The twin brothers of ALMAS BAND got a gig hosting a TV program

(CV24 America CV network) concentrated in Puerto Rico's underground music scene called Puerto Rico Underground.

• February 2010• ALMAS BAND wrote the theme song for a Telemundo's TV

series Extremos.

• March 2010• ALMAS BAND performed @ Caguas “ECO FERIA” .

• April 2010• Wrote the music for the trailer Salitre.

• June 2010• ALMAS BAND gave a Benefit Concert for Syndrome Down

patients @ La Respuesta.

• July 2010• ALMAS BAND went on tour as part of the “Central American

Games” through the west side of the island (P.R.) visiting Ponce, Hormigueros, San Germán and Salinas.

• August 2010• ALMAS BAND performed at all the Borders stores in Puerto Rico to help

promote their second album “AUDIOTOUR”.• September 2010• ALMAS BAND performed at Sagrado Corazón University &

University of Cayey as part of Buena Vibra College Tour .• 5 tracks of ALMAS BAND second album "AUDIOTOUR" were

selected to be included in Barefoot Films movie ELITE.  They chose C-ALMA to be the main song of the movie.

• October 2010• ALMAS BAND live at “Condado’s Culinary Festival”

presented by Chivas Regal.• ALMAS BAND was awarded the Best Alternative Band in the

Natural Choice Awards give by Natural Awakenings in PR. • November 2010• ALMAS BAND performed in front of a packed beach at

sunset as part of the RIP CURL PRO SURF CIRCUIT presented by Coors Light.

• December 2010• ALMAS BAND opened for the well-known reggae band

Cultura Profética at La Respuesta presented by Banco Popular de PR.

• ALMAS BAND collaborated with "Banco Popular" to be part of the album SALSA a tribute to "El Gran Combo" which was awarded a gold record in the USA for selling 100,000 copies.

2011 Almas Band Accomplishments

February 2011 • ALMAS BAND played an exhibition called RAW for the photographer Nina Méndez Martí at Galería Yemayá.• ALMAS BAND donated their music for a benefit held for the Silent Grace Foundation at La Respuesta,

Santurce, PR.March 2011• Jose & Jorge began a new phase as hosting several segments for Popular TV. A channel that Banco Popular of

Puerto Rico owns, which has over 4 million viewers. April 2011• Jose & Jorge spent an afternoon with the students of School of Liberal Arts specialized in music. They spent

the afternoon talking about their music career. May 2011• An album of compilation of reggae bands in the Island was released called: “Sembrando Semillas: Segunda

Cosecha” In which the song “Guerrero” of Almas Band second album was featured. June 2011• ALMAS BAND had the opportunity to play in the biggest independent music fest, the Coors Light Indie Fest.

It took place in Aguadilla, PR.August 2011• They released the single “Háblame De Ti” and are on a mediatour. • ALMAS BAND wrote the score for and independent film “On a Memory’s Thread” by César R. Castillo.September 2011• They released their video “Háblame De Ti” @ La Respuesta, PR in front of media and special guests from the

entertainment and business industry.• ALMAS BAND participated in the concert of Puerto Rican icons Fiel a La Vega & Friends @ the Botanical

Gardens in Caguas, PR.
