Allscripts PrintAttach Requirements andInstallation

Allscripts PrintAttachAllscripts® PrintAttach is a print driver for desktops or external terminal environments.

Allscripts® PrintAttach consists of the following components:

> The Allscripts® PrintAttach PDF print driver.

Note: This driver generates a PDF file that is saved to your TEMPfolder.

> The PrintAttach.exe file (desktop version) or PrintAttachNet.WinFormsApp.exe(server and Windows 8+ version).

Note: The PDF driver automatically runs these files after you save thePDF output. The respective PrintAttach executable file securelysaves the PDF file back to Allscripts® Web servers for backup with thepatient record.

Allscripts® licenses the PDF print driver from Black Ice Software, LLC™. For more information aboutthe Black Ice PDF driver, see the Black Ice Printer Driver Manual.

Supported operating systemsWhen installing the Allscripts® PrintAttach PDF print driver, select the print driver associated withthe Windows™ operating system you are installing the driver on.

> Allscripts® PrintAttach 32-bit

Note: This version requires Windows 2000 Professional™, WindowsXP™, or Windows Vista™ or higher, installed as 32-bit.

> Allscripts® PrintAttach 64-bit for Windows 7™

Note: This version requires Windows 7™ installed as 64-bit.

Install the Allscripts PrintAttach driver on 32-bitWindows 7 operating systemUse the following steps for installing the Allscripts® PrintAttach driver on 32-bit Windows 7™ operatingsystem.

Before you beginTo successfully install the Allscripts® PrintAttach driver, you must have administrator privileges. Ifyou try to install the driver without having administrator privileges, the installation process displaysan error stating you don’t have access to write a file to the machine.

1. Download the 32-bit MSI package by clicking the following link in this document: Allscripts®

Print Attach 32-bit.2. Do one of the following to run the MSI package on your facility's 32-bit operating system:

> Double-click the MIS file.> At the command prompt, enter: C:\>msiexec.exe /i Allscripts_PrintAttach_32bit.msi.

3. Follow the instructions provided by the installation wizard.

Note: To check the disk space before installing the program, selectCustom on the Choose Setup Type window and then click DiskUsage.

Install the Allscripts PrintAttach driver on the WindowsServer or Citrix with Terminal Services

Before you beginTo successfully install the driver, you must have Terminal Server Service Pack 4. You must alsohave administrator privileges.

You cannot install the printer driver from a remote computer, even if you have administratorprivileges. In addition, if you add the port monitor or the printer port to the registry, this job will fail.

Note: If there are terminal services on the server, even if used only forremote administration, you must use the terminal server version of theprinter driver. Because the Windows 2003™ server operating systemsinclude terminal services, the terminal server version of the printer driveris required for this family of operating systems. To install a non-terminalserver driver on a Windows 2000™ server, you must completely uninstallterminal services.

1. To install the Allscripts® PrintAttach PDF print driver on a Windows™ server or Citrix TerminalServices™, set the terminal server to install mode by starting the driver installation underControl Panel > Add/Remove Programs.You can correctly install the terminal server printer driver only from the server.The terminal server is set to install mode.

2. To begin the installation, run the 64-bit Windows Server MSI by going tohttp://www.extendedcare.com/NAS/Common/Downloads/Allscripts_PrintAttach_Server.msior clickingAllscripts™ Print Attach 64-bit from the Allscripts CareManagement DownloadPage.

Test Allscripts PrintAttachBefore you beginTo verify that the Allscripts® PrintAttach driver is working correctly, you must be logged in with astandard user account, and not an administrator account.

1. Log in to the workstation as the user who will most frequently use Allscripts® PrintAttach.2. Log in to Allscripts® PrintAttach.3. Select Manage > Forms > Forms Default View.

Forms Default View opens.

4. From the Actions menu, select Forms and Attachments, and then click Go.5. Click Add Print Attach.

If you do not see Add Print Attach, the Allscripts® PrintAttach feature is not enabled. Contactyour Allscripts™ project manager.

6. Create a test document using Notepad or any Windows™-based application that can print toa local printer, and print the document to the Allscripts® PrintAttach printer.

7. (Optional) Add a description for the document.8. When processing is complete, minimize the source application and return to Allscripts®

PrintAttach.The Forms and Attachments page will refresh, and the printed document is displayed in theAttachments list.

Configure driver preferences and start theapplication

Configure Allscripts PrintAttach driver preferences1. From the Windows™ Start menu, select Settings > Printers and Faxes.2. Right-click the Allscripts™ Print Attach printer and select Properties.

The Allscripts™ Print Attach Properties wizard displays.

3. Select the Advanced tab.4. Click Printing Defaults to open the Allscripts™ Print Attach Printing Defaults wizard.5. Select the File Formats tab.6. For Color Depth, select 1 bit.7. In the Options section, select Create Multipage Image.

Note: Leave all other options on their default settings.

Start the applicationRun the Allscripts PrintAttach executable file for the desktop or the server version.

1. Select the Start Application tab.2. Select Enable Start Application.3. Do 1 of the following:

Uninstalling Black Ice and AllscriptsPrintAttach

Uninstall Black Ice or Allscripts PrintAttachUninstall Allscripts® PrintAttach or the Black Ice driver.

Before you beginBefore you reinstall Allscripts® PrintAttach or the Black Ice driver, you must completely uninstallall of the software's components using Windows™ Add/Remove programs.

Note: When you uninstall an Allscripts® PrintAttach version that wasinstalled, the all-in-1 install program names the files slightly differently,using BuP instead of BiP.

1. Click Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > .2. Select either ECIN Print Attach or Allscripts Print Attach and click Uninstall.

The following is displayed.

3. Click Yes.During the uninstall, you will receive the following dialog box related to closing the PrintSpooler.


Note: Allscripts recommends that you select Do not closeapplications.

Results of this taskBoth Black Ice and Allscripts® PrintAttach PDF should be uninstalled, as the new install programwill install both programs at the same time.

Note: If Allscripts® PrintAttach PDF is not displayed in the Add/RemovePrograms, you must uninstall it manually.

What to do nextBecause the uninstall of Black Ice often does not remove all the associated files, DLL and registrysetting, you must manually delete these files.



Chapter 4 Uninstalling Black Ice and Allscripts PrintAttach

Manually delete other Black Ice files and registrysettingsTo ensure that the reinstallation of Black Ice and Allscripts® PrintAttach PDF works correctly, youmust ensure that any Black Ice files, dll and registry settings that were not removed usingAdd/Remove, are deleted.

Note: When you uninstall an Allscripts® PrintAttach version that wasinstalled using the new program, note that the new all-in-one install programnames the files slightly differently, using ‘BuP’ instead of ‘BiP’.

1. Delete the following files if they are still present on your computer. The file names for theterminal services version will have ‘TS’ instead of ‘NT’.

> C:\WINNT\system32\BiPAppNT.exe C:\WINNT\system32\BiPiniNT.ini

2. Delete the following registry settings, if they are still present on your computer.
