Description of the School• Bennett Woods includes grades kindergarten through fourth

with approximately 370 students– Organized by ‘academic pods’ (different sections of the school

for each grade)• It was built in 1993• The building is a red brick, modern style• It has a gymnasium, an art room, a computer lab and a media

center• Bennett Woods school webpage states that their student

population is very diverse including families from “Korea, China, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Mexico, Colombia, Canada, India, Germany, and Pakistan”

Bennett Woods Kids Club Programs

• Bennett Woods offers before and after school programs for all students– Includes: arts and crafts, reading, planned games,

and homework help, and occasional field trips

• K.E.E.P.– Half day non-school hours enrichment program

for Kindergarteners

Description of the School Grounds• Includes two play grounds– One located on the side fenced in (kindergarten) – Larger playground in back of school

• There is a fenced in garden in the back• Also has 2 soccer fields, a baseball field and a

large blacktop with a basketball court• Wooded area surrounds the playground

Resident Comments

• As we were exploring the school grounds, we saw a family at the playground

• The father stated that it was a great place for his kids to come and play as well as a good place to walk the dog around

The Neighborhood• A lot of the area surrounding the school was

wooded and rural looking• Most houses surrounding the school were

located in subdivisions• The houses and subdivisions are mainly new

construction• We observed a lot of young families and

children playing in their yards and on the sidewalks

• Strip Malls close to I-96 – 2 South of Bennett Woods

• Meridian Mall– Includes department stores: Yonkers, Macy’s, JC Penny– Smaller brand name clothing stores: Abercrombie,

Hollister, Old Navy, etc.– Sports Stores: Dick’s Sporting Goods, Campus Den– Electronic Stores: AT&T, Radio Shack, etc.

• Strip Malls– Stores: AT&T, Little By Little, Unique children’s

boutique, etc.– Restaurants: Panchero’s, Applebee’s, Quizno’s, etc.
