Welcome to the Allerthorpe Sprint Triathlon 2019 Please read carefully

All the necessary information for the 2019 Allerthorpe Sprint Triathlon should be included in this competitors publication. If there is anything you need further clarification on please contact the Freebird office prior to the event. Freebird Events would like to thank you for supporting the Allerthorpe Sprint Tri. We hope you have an enjoyable and successful day. Please check the Freebird website for your race number and swim wave. Please note we cannot change or amend any start times at this late date. How to get there

Allerthorpe Lakeland Park is located approx. 1 mile from the A1079 York to Hull road, and about 2 miles from Pocklington. From the A1079 roundabout follow the signs for Allerthorpe. Allerthorpe Lakeland Park is on the left about ¾ mile after the village.

Car Parking

Car parking is within the Park. Turn into the main park drive and turn immediately left. Please park as directed by the car park marshals. Please be aware the venue owners are imposing a £2 car parking charge that they will be collecting in the car park. If possible please have the correct change.

Spectators

Please do not park anywhere on the race route

Toilets

Toilets are located at the end of the Park reception building and in the Finish area

After parking, please go straight to registration. This will be located next to the Transition Area on lakeside Follow the lakeside path from the car park and enter the event site through the gate next to the café At Registration you will collect your competitors race pack

BTF Membership

If you declared BTF membership when completing the online entry form, the registration staff will ask to see your membership licence. Please be aware that if you do not have your licence you will be asked to pay an additional £5 for BTF day membership before receiving your race pack.

Non BTF Membership

If you chose the Non BTF membership option when entering online you will already have paid the additional £5 for day membership

This race will be held under British Triathlon Federation rules. You should make yourself fully conversant with these. You can download the rules from Triathlon England

Race Briefing

There will be a compulsory race briefing next to the Transition Area at 8.30. All competitors must listen to this briefing.

Relay Team Entries

If you are competing in this year’s event as part of a relay team, you will need to change over team members from one discipline to the next. This takes place in the transition area, please make the change over at the point where your teams bike is racked. Please ensure that you transfer the timing chip from one competitor to the next, otherwise you will not record a time. Timing chips should be worn around your left ankle.

Spectator Guide

Only park in the official car parks

No spectators vehicles on the course please

No spectators are allowed in the Transi on area

Please stay within the fenced off spectator areas

Please do not cross any fences or barriers

Please follow the marshal’s instruc ons and look out for compe tors who are

racing

If you bring your dog, please keep it under control and don’t allow it off the

lead near any of the race route

There is great spectator viewing on lakeside, around the transition area and around the main Park entrance. Spectators are most welcome and you will be able to see a lot of the race, but please follow these basic rules to ensure the safety of yourself and all of the competitors at the race


What Should I Do Next?

Attach your Bike Security number to your bike, then take your bike to the Transition Area BIKE CHECK IN Gate. The bike racking is numbered. Please keep all your race equipment within the confines of your own bike space. Your Race Numbers should be attached to your clothing so that your number is visible on your back while cycling and on your front while running.

Number Belts are permitted.

Transi on Area Security

Please note Freebird staff will be allowed into the transition area, no spectators under any circumstance. This is for everybody’s safety and security. When checking your bike into the transition area before your race you will be asked to show both your race number and bike security label (attached to your bike) before being allowed into transition. After your race you will be asked once more to show your race number which must match your bike security label before being allowed out of transition with your bike and equipment

The Swim

The Swim is an open water lake swim of

750m.

Competitors can warm up in the water,

but only after the Race Briefing has

finished and the safety craft are in place.

Warm up will be announced on the P.A.

There will be several wave starts

separated by 5 minutes. You will be told

at registration which wave to start in.

The swim route is easy to navigate, a

simple clockwise circular course with an

additional section in the centre of the

lake, to make up the 750m distance.

The swim start will be to the left of the

swim exit and will comprise of one single

lap.

The first wave will start at 9.00am

The swim course is marked with highly

visible swim marker buoys

There will be a lead canoe ahead of the

fastest swimmers, and plenty of very

experienced safety canoeists in the

water.

If you require assistance from the safety

boats, turn onto your back and wave your

arms to attract the attention of the safety

marshals. When the boat reaches you,

follow the Instructions from the safety

marshal

Amazing events & great experiences

Please seed yourself at the swim start.

Slower or less confident swimmers are

advised to keep to the back of the pack.

When you finish your swim there will be

marshals to help you out of the water.

Should you need it

Follow the fenced off route towards the

Transition Area. As you cross the timing

mat, your swim time will be recorded.

Transi on T1

Leave your wetsuit near your bike spot

Fit and fasten your Bike Helmet, then pick

up your bike.

Remember your Bike Number must be

visible from the back.

Follow the signs marked TRANSITION

OUT, along the carpeted route through

the caravan site to the Mount Line.

Cross the MOUNT LINE and then get on

your bike.

The Cycle

You must wear an approved Bike Helmet during the cycle section. Follow the large yellow signs situated around the course. The Cycle course is 20km. Please take great care while cycling. You are racing on open roads with all the other traffic. You must comply with the Highway Code and follow the normal rules of the road at all times. You do not have any special priority, and must give way as normal at road junctions. Race Marshals do not have the authority to stop traffic they are only there to point the direction. You must look first and only go if you think it is safe. Any competitor judged to be riding dangerously will be disqualified. This is a No Drafting race

Transi on T2

After dismounting at the Dismount Line Follow the carpeted route back through the caravan site to re-enter the Transition Area. Return your bike to its original rack position. Rack your bike before removing your Bike Helmet. Make sure your Run Number is visible from the front. Follow the signs marked TRANSITION OUT to head out on the run.

The Run

The Run is 5km

Follow the large yellow signs marked RUN. The Run is an out and back 5km course.

Drinks will be available at the turn around point. Please keep to your left hand side of

the road on the way out and your right hand side when returning.

Please look out for runners coming the other way, especially at corners.

When you return to the park, follow the route back through the caravan site towards the

Transition Area, as you did at the end of the Cycle section.

Run under the Finish Gantry to finish.

As you cross the timing mat your run time will be recorded.

A er The Race

Once you cross the line, you will enter the finish compound. Here you will find drinks and some fruit. Please help yourself, you deserve it. Before you leave the compound your Freebird Timing Chip will be collected. Please make sure these are deposited in the timing collection bin close to the exit of the finish compound. Lost Timing Chips will incur a charge.

Results

Your individual split time results will be available to view immediately after crossing the finish line. You will be able to obtain a printed copy of your own personal times by visiting the Results Gazebo located close to the Finish area. Full provisional results will be displayed and updated throughout the day. Full results will also appear on the Freebird website by Sunday evening
