Late this fall our diocese began a capital campaign to raise funds to build a retirement center for priests up in Genesee County. This center will be similar to one that is already constructed on the grounds of our di- ocesan retreat house in DeWitt. Each building is a grouping of four to six small apartments. Each apart- ment has a living room\study, a bedroom and bath and a small kitchen. Most of all, it offers a retired priest the opportunity to live in a community of other retired priests, while giving him private space that most of us can appreciate. It will cost $1.4 million to build this complex. All future cost will be covered by the rent each priest will pay, plus each will cover his own utilities and oth- er living expenses. Bishop Boyea has pledged $5,000 to this pro- ject. Several other priests including myself will also make commitments to help build this, but we cannot do it alone. Religious Formation News from Mary at [email protected] and

Karen at [email protected]

Youth News from Margaret at [email protected]

and Stasia at [email protected]

This weekend Bishop Boyea Confirmed 61 of our High School youth! (We also had 1 Confirmed with us from another parish!) I would like to congratulate them for all their hard work and discernment! Par-ents, you have been, and are their primary role models of faith. Parents, this has been an awe-some group of youth to walk this faith journey with over the last 10 years, know that you have raised your children in the love of God and that will be with them always. I would like to thank our Confir-mation team of 9th and 10th grade Catechists for all you do to help our youth come to realize the power of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Join us this week for Formation Thanksgiving Liturgies: Wednesday (5/7:00) and Thursday (6:00) Nov. 20/21 we will have Children’s Liturgies during class time. Our 2nd and 7th grade youth are organizing a canned food drive. Food collected will be used to prepare food baskets for families right here in Livingston County. We will be collecting specific food items in the Community Room on the marked tables. Help is needed sorting and prepar-ing boxes; please come help pack food boxes Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7pm. We need you! We are in need of subs to help share our faith with the youth in our programs! Thank you to all who have come forward so far. Email or call Karen or me if you are interested in finding out more information! Confirmation youth in grade 9: Remember NO CLASS today, Sunday, November 17! Class calendars are available in the gathering area or online at www.saintmarymagdalen.org. Check out our website for your child’s syllabus lo-cated on there, as well as the direct link to Sadlier our publisher for the materials we use in class. This will help you at home if you have to miss a class for any reason. Thanksgiving Break will run from Sunday, No-vember 24 through Thursday, Nov. 28. Classes will resume with the Family Program, K, 9th grades on Sunday, December 1. As you are getting ready to buy the turkey and fixings for next week, cheer the Lions on to beat the Packers, ready the house for out of town guests or hungry kids coming home from college, be sure to slow down and spend time with the Lord. Part of a prayer from a friend…”Teach me to slow down to look at a flower, to breathe a prayer, to chat with a friend…help me to take time to love people, appreciate them and to thank them.” Have a great week!

Congratulations to the tenth graders who were Confirmed this weekend. May you be open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit and your life be filled with love, strength and courage. May your celebration with family and friends this weekend be filled with all things good.

This weekend we are celebrating Thanksgiv-ing with a potluck feast. We will gather together to give thanks for all of God’s blessings and to share in the company of good

friends. Plan to join us for a warm and cozy even-ing as we praise God for all things good. Thank you to Maryanne Swanson who spent last Sunday evening with us, sharing her sto-ry about how she came to be a part of the Faith Medical Clinic, the only free clinic in Livingston County, where she works and volunteers her time to serve those in need. She shared her struggles, blessings and her passion with us. It was a nice evening that ended with a group hug and smiles! Thank you Maryanne. Our Winter Weekend Getaway (WWG) will be here before we know it. We will travel up north to the Cadillac area and stay at Edgette’s Lodge for the weekend; we will laugh, have fun, ski, laugh and learn about Dog Man again. Mark your calen-dars now for January 24-26. The cost for the week-end is $100. It includes lodging and all meals. Re-serve your spot with a nonrefundable $50 deposit due this weekend. Check out http://www.edgettslodge.com/ to see where we are stay-ing. We are selling pizza magnets for $20 for a free pizza from Guido’s when you order an XL. The code on the magnet is good for an entire year! There are locations both in Hartland and Brighton. Contact Margaret Callaghan at [email protected] to purchase one. The money the teens earn from this fundraisier will be used to help with the weeklong service trip in the summer, the Winter Weekend Getaway, Cedar Point and other scheduled events. EDGE Our next meeting is Monday the 25th. We will celebrate Thanksgiving EDGE style so bring your favorite snack to pass and share.

Adult Education and Formation Faith and Service - From Sr. Joyce

Advent by Candlelight Join us for our annual Advent by Candlelight gathering on Satur-day, December 7, from 7-9pm in the Community Room as we make a Joyful Journey with an

evening of reflection and friendship while we pre-pare to welcome Jesus into our lives this holiday season. Enjoy community, dessert, and a play that will reflect on why we should be filled with joy and bring joy to others.

Hostesses are asked to reserve a table to decorate and provide a dessert. Take a break from the holiday rush to welcome family and friends to your table. Our tables seat 8. If you have less than 8 people, the committee can fill your table, encouraging new friendships; at the least promoting interesting conversations. If you have more than 8 we can put your tables next to each other. Hostess instructions and a reserva-tion form can be found in the gathering area on the Community Life table or in the Visionary on our website: www.saintmarymagdalen.org . Seating is limited. Reservations are im-portant. If you could turn in your form before Thanksgiving, it would greatly help us with the preparations.

St. Mary Magdalen Float Many hands are needed to assemble and finish the float. Please come to the Barn Saturday at 10 am or call for additional times. On behalf of the 20th Anniversary Committee and Community Life, please consider donating Christ-mas lights for use on the St. Mary Magdalen Float for this year’s Festival of Lights Parade on Fri., Nov.29 in Howell. About 15,000 lights are needed for the Float. The preference is for strands of all one color: red, blue, green, and white (no LED). There will be a box at the Community Life table in the Gathering Area. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Dennis Wagener at (810) 229-9592 or cell (810) 599-0880 or email at [email protected].

Children’s Nativity Rehearsal began Wed., Nov. 6 and will be on Wednesdays, Nov. 20, Dec. 4, 11 & 18 from 6 - 6:30 pm (between Rel. Ed. classes), and also on Thurs. Dec. 19 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. Children grades K-8 are wel-come. The Nativity will have an angel choir along with traditional roles. It will be the prelude to the 6 pm Christmas Eve Mass. The children’s Nativity is a great opportunity to focus on the Christ in Christmas! Please sign-up in the gath-ering area or contact Erin Wolfe 517.546.0417 for more information.

THANKSGIVING DAY Thursday, Nov. 28th

We will celebrate the Liturgy on Thanksgiving Day at 9 a.m. Please bring food for the poor to Mass with you. (there will also be a basket for monetary donations). Since we have been blessed in so many ways we’ll have the opportunity to thank God in a spe-cial way. In the gathering area there is a place where you may write down what you are most thankful for. These will be put together into a prayer that will be prayed after Communion on Thanksgiving morning.

will be in the Gathering Area starting Nov. 23 and will remain there until December 16. This year we have Eight Charities, including St. Anne’s, Detroit; Brown Evangelical Ministries; Livingston County Catholic Charities; LACASA; W. J. Maxey Boys Training School; Magdalen’s Kitchen and parish; Pregnan-cy Help Line; and the Cornerstone School affiliated with St. Agnes Parish in Flint/Clio Michigan. The Cornerstone School is a program for adults with mental and physical handicaps. If you would like to help those who are less fortunate, please take a tag from the Tree and place your donation back under the tree no later than December 16. We cannot guarantee that the charities will receive the gifts before Christmas if left af-ter that date. is a great way to involve the entire family in a very worthwhile project.

The gift tags for Cornerstone list clothing size, when known, and other gift suggestions. So you can choose what to get the individual.

Please make sure the tag is taped and secured to your donation, so we know which charity it goes to. Only gifts for Cornerstone School should be wrapped. Please leave all other gifts unwrapped. Gift cards for all the charities should be unwrapped.

If you have any questions, please contact Dianne Sweeter at 248.842.7762 or [email protected] or 248.842.7762.

A BOOK AND WALL OF REMEMBERING

Throughout the month of November we continue to lift up in prayer to God those who have died. Our Book of Remembering is placed at the Shrine of Remembering in the worship space so that you might list the names of deceased family & friends. Throughout the month we will display a Wall of Remembering. If you would like a picture of your loved one displayed please bring it to Sr. Maryetta in the parish office.

Looking for pictures taken in 2012 or any other year you may have snapped a few pictures of any parish activity and would like displayed on the wall in the East Wing. Please bring them to Sr. Maryetta in the office.

Seniors go hungry without our volunteers! The Meals on Wheels organization needs volun-teers. We would love the opportunity for you to be a part of our team of volunteers. Positions available are for packers and drivers. This is a commitment of 1 to 3 hours of your time as little or as often as you would like. Our volunteers deliver more than just a meal. For more information please call Carol @ 810-632-2155 or email [email protected].

Ichthus Friendship Stories Music If you desire a deeper relationship with God and others then consider visiting Ichthus. We meet each Sunday morning at 10:15 am in the north room.
