Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society Fair 2020 Staying Home on the Farm Welcome to the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society Virtual Fair! The fair is such an integral part of summer and island life. Cancelling it was so difficult for all of us. Maybe we could still celebrate all the great things we do at the fair, but just make some adjustments. Still celebrate our agricultural history, traditions and all the talent this island holds together, but from a safe distance. The poster this year by talented artist Robin Nagle of West Tisbury was an original entry for poster. When she adjusted after the cancellation for the times we are in, it was perfect. So we are staying home on the farm and having a virtual fair! There will be many familiar things about the virtual fair. The Poster Shack, Entertainment Tent, Fiber Tent, Barn and Hall will all be there as well as lots of fun new things and surprises. We have kept as many categories in the Hall and Barn as we felt we could properly judge from pictures. Entering is easy through fairentry.com. You’re allowed three pictures for the judges so choose wisely. Save your best shot for the beauty shot, that’s the one everyone will see when you win your ribbon. Please make sure to read through the entry schedule and information carefully. You will notice a $2 donation fee for each entry. This is to help pay our annual subscription to Fair Entry and it is just for the virtual fair. The annual fair is the main fundraiser for the Agricultural Society, cancelling it has left a big hole to fill. Everyone involved in the virtual fair has volunteered their time, service and expertise out of their love for the fair, this island and it’s agricultural traditions. Please consider becoming a member, purchasing some merchandise or making a donation through the Poster Shack or Fair Entry so the Agricultural Society can continue to support our farmers and hold future fairs for another 161 years. We hope you enjoy the virtual fair, stay safe and stay well. We can’t wait to see what you enter! The Virtual Fair Committee 2.

Agricultural Society Fair

2020 Staying Home on the Farm

Welcome to the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society

Virtual Fair!

SPECIAL FAMILY AWARDS Department 109A

00001: Reimagine & Reduce Award

Vineyard Conservation Society & Island Grown Initiative

The unprecedented times of the past few months have ushered in many

changes to our lives. The effort to cope in this changing world has pushed us to

reimagine some of our daily habits. Some changes have resulted in hardships,

but others have presented opportunities for learning new skills, and for being

creative. Vineyard Conservation Society and Island Grown Initiative want to

know what changes you, your family, business, or organization have made that

feel like a beneficial outcome from an unfortunate situation and that have

helped you reduce your waste and/or live more sustainability or independently.

To enter, submit a 100 word explanation in .doc or .pdf form and three

photographs of a depiction in any medium (paint, photo, 3D object) to describe

a positive change you’ve made during these times that you will choose to hold

onto.

Examples:

- Composting to keep food waste out of the trash

- Gardening to reduce plastic packaging from the store

- Repurposing waste for art

- Mending clothes or fixing objects to extend their life

- Making an easy switch to a reusable item instead of disposable

- Sharing a large piece of equipment for things you use infrequently

- Biking to work

The chosen winner of this award will win $50.00!
